Customs / Re: custom request (looking for price quote)
« on: January 30, 2012, 03:12:21 PM »
I could do $10 for a repaint , $15 for minor sculpting. I'm figuring for barnacle I could easily add a male nose, feathers to the hooves. $2 or  $3 for shipping.

once I get the ponies I can probably have them done in a day - 2 max.  Just a note, the above prices would $10 total for a repaint pony and $15 total for a sculpted one. I just re-read that and saw that it could be taken as 10 + 15 for a sculpted fellow, which is not the case

Total I would say $25

To Colorscapesart

Nope I'm good. Turns out someone else had an exact match for sale. My roomie felt so bad about it she bought me a new one ^.^ So I'm still in the game. She even wants to run me to all the walgreens in our area to see if she can find a back up!

Customs / Fakies, an oven and what I have learned
« on: January 28, 2012, 07:05:29 PM »
So I was doing the sculpt on a fakie I got in the mail today. I was so excited I wanted to do just the sculpt. I had a Walgreen's one. Anyway I started the sculpt using Fimo Light, wire mesh and alcohol to smooth out the fimo. The sculpt was going fantastic.

So I put the fimo in the oven on 230 for 30 minutes. The fakie came out JUST FINE!!! So when it came time to put him in for the second round I stuck him back it. Problem is my roommate reset the oven for 350. So 20 minutes later the Fimo was scorched and the pony was...melted.

So a few things I learned from this
1. You can put Walgreen's fakies in the oven, but no higher than 230 degrees
2. Use a wire for sculpting legs IN ADDITION to wire mesh.
3. Fimo Light can be smoothed out with 91% rubbing alcohol.
4. When trying new things always have a backup pony on hand.

Just so y'all know ^,^

I know in the video you don't use fimo due to your lack of cooking skills, however do you know if you can use the lotion on fimo to achieve a similar smoothing effect? When sculpting my biggest downfall is the dreaded fingerprints.

I just finished my g4 Quackers yesterday so I still recall what I used! Mine were 6mm Premium Acrylic Rhinestones by Darico. I tried to find Swarvsky but the store was sold out :( anyway some info about the acrylic type. Acetone will cloud the gem and degrade it. Rubbing alcohol will to a point, but not anywhere near as much. 6mm is the perfect size for a g4. Mine are actually set into the plastic. To do this cut a hole just about the same size and set in. Secure with mod podge or super glue from the inside. Use a darker version of the gem color to paint a thin line around the edge of the gem and paint whites and lashes as usual :) Seal paint with your sealer of choice :)

Customs / g1-g4 Twinkle Eyes Quackers
« on: January 25, 2012, 11:13:30 AM »
My first TE pony and she turned out to be a great success. I had a lot of bumps along the way, but aside from all the frustration she is my favorite custom to date. I can't stop playing with her!

Anyway Quackers started life out as a g4 plumsweet. Because Plumsweet is a white pony I was able to avoid a full body repaint...yay! After removing all the factory paint I tried out a few various flat backed gems and hated all of them. I even took the original eyes out of a dirty and yellowed bait Quackers I had. Sadly those eyes are closer to 10mm and way to large. In the end I ended up using a 6mm flat back gem I got at Joanne's in a multi pack. The eyes stuck out so far initially it made me wince, plus they didn't lay very flat. So in the end I carved out holes and set them into the plastic securing them with superglue from the inside.

After that I painted the whites and lashes and finally a thin line of Thalo Blue around the edge of the jewel and sealed it all with mod podge matte and it was PERFECT! I painted her cutie on both sides and re-haired her with a mix of Atomic Turquoise, Key Lime, Golden Delicious and Heart Throb. Oddly they were not ordered for a Quackers, but something I had left over. They turned out to be an EXACT match for the original.

So without further ado...

Customs / Baby Ferret Shock
« on: January 25, 2012, 11:00:45 AM »
So Ferret shock is my personal OC and one widely associated with my art on DA. When I found out my Dad was ill I wanted to make this for him as he always laughed and liked my mlp art. After he died I sort of shelved her for a week or two and finished her off yesterday.

Anyway she started life as a Sweetie Belle who promptly had her horn chopped off. The gaping hole was sculpted over with fimo and sanded smooth. She was then painted with acrylics and rehaired with Dollyhair's Water Nixie and Key Lime. She has 3 pearl pushpins in her hair and sealed with Mod Podge Matte.
