There are a TON more fakies on the s/h market nowadays than there ever were when we carbooted for G1 back in the mid nineties. It's like the fakie market exploded even more in the last five or six years. Nine times out of ten the ponies you see second hand are fakies, whereas after G1 ended, you'd see a lot of actual G1 ponies. True, lots of Peachy, Lickety, CJ etc, but ponies...not so much fakies.
At least, speaking for here in the UK.
We did have some fakies around but most of the fakies I've ever had from G1 lots came from the US.
I believe it's a combination of the internet and the popularity of G4, all in all.
Oh oh today I found an okay condition G3 Glitterbelle!
She's pretty! Cool beans! Where'd you find her?

OH BOI. I don't really care for shipping in general, but some are dear to my heart lol. I ship Celestia and Sombra too! I've shipped Soarindash since I was like 10, I also love Cheesepie, Starburst, and Fluttercord.
Same ships here for me too! Fluttercord is my fave, Soarindash is the only RD ship I like. I also don't mind LyraBon, I just wish the writers had thought of it on their own rather than going with it because the fandom wanted it. But overall, I'm not too bothered about ships, I usually lean towards canon ships in any series (save for a few which are either too forced or just really, really bad examples of a healthy relationship).
I agree there's a lot of forced relationships in tv, but other than that I go for canon ships too. I'm not a fan of the other RD ships as much either.

Spoiler -shrug- I guess I just don't see how pairing the characters off = pandering to the bronies!! Maybe you've got a point with LyraBon, but the others.. I dunno. Lots of stories end with the heroes hooking up and having kids... Who's to say the crew didn't ship Cheese/Pinkie themselves, lol. Any pairing can be considered a "ship", the idiots that get het up over silly cartoon pairings would get angry about it no matter what  (not that I'm saying all shippers are silly, I'm talking about the ones that take it super seriously and get angry and vitriolic about it )
I can agree with this. If fans are so upset by their ship being dumped to the point of harassment then they have bigger issues. Post Merge: August 28, 2019, 10:01:39 AMA part of me hopes that, with how bronies have violently reacted to the finale (and will likely continue to react as it's released in more countries & languages), Hasbro realizes that maybe it is better to drop that audience, as things like that could taint MLP in the public eye if it gets enough publicity. The harder they cater to them the worse it'll get.
I think it is possible that G5 is going to flop hard if they go the way they're currently going. Bronies will hate it because it's too different, changing the identity of the characters they know/love for the purpose of milking them further. Other MLP fans will hate it because it isn't different enough, using the same characters again. Parents might even hate it because oh great the kids want ANOTHER Pinkie Pie/Rainbow Dash/whoever else?
All wishful thinking, of course, and we won't know anything about G5 for sure until it's announced. I just really miss the innocence of pre-FiM MLP, or heck, even early FiM when it was still a cute show for kids. I recently watched a random season 2 episode and it was honestly shocking just how far removed season 9 is from that. Seasons 1-2 had an air of innocence that's just not there anymore in the later seasons, from before bronies took over. I miss it.
They can go back and forth too- Every gen should be different. Some gens are more like g3 and some are more like FIM. No matter what they do though they should always remember their target audience

I see nothing wrong with making canon. Lets face it, every character was shipped in this show. Can't make everyone happy. Fans need to accept it and calm down. Its the last episode, its a wholesome ship.

Thinking about it ... is it impossible for an Earth or Pegasus pony to be an heir? All Twilight's competition/former potential heirs have been unicorns. Twiligjt Sparkle. Sunset Shimmer. Starlight Glimmer. I look forward to Moonrise Glitter or Twinkling Eclipse replacing or being the competitor to Luster.

Okay, the "gay couple confirmed in the last 5 minutes of the show" trope is starting to get irritating.. but I've always thought LyraBon was cute, so I'll take it. so the Star/Sun kid is Luster Dawn? Oooh. Did Pinkie's kid get a name? I don't like High Princess Twilight, either. I'm neutral to the idea itself but the execution just looks weird.. and I agree w/ you about her hair, Ragamuffin. I've never really thought that much about how Luna/Celestia's hair worked but having Twilight's hair look like that is a little too odd. It just doesn't look quite right.

Spoiler I'd love a pony of Luster because her colours are awesome, but that would mean Hasbro... making toys of a pony... that isn't Pinkie or Twilight? Yeah, not happening. Maybe we can at least get a proper Celestia-size Princess Twilight now?

Spoiler i figure starlight to be a decent bit older than the mane six... so maybe they had her right after the final battle? maybe she isn't that much older than pinkie's child, it seems based off episode 17 that they go from kids to adults quick lol. so yeah my guess is they had her right after. its 15-ish years later maybe? based off the other kids' ages? Spoiler its at least sunburst's, as she has his mark.

I still find it odd that she's so much older than the other kids, though. Especially Big Mac/Sweetie Belle's.
I'm also curious on just how much time's passed in that time-skip. 20-ish years?
