Customs / Re: Painting tips
« on: March 06, 2020, 01:51:10 AM »
So many amazing tips and tricks here. I put my wrists on the table edge for more stability.
Most of the times I have a good idea of what I want to paint, symbol or eye-wise. Sometimes I wing it... it's a hit or miss...

Make sure to check the viscosity of your paint on a piece of paper before you start.

I also make sure to get rid of that tiny drop of water still clinging to the metal part of my paintbrush (that bugger tends to slide down while painting and washing my paint down with it in a messy blob).

And then, deep breath, hoping for the best and go for it. :D

I need to try flocking then. :) It looks like fun. (And is probably a big mess)

By the way, I've seen similar eggs in the supermarkets now that the easter sweets are in. :) I might snatch one or two for easter pony customs. It's such a great idea.

They are really cool. Like that everyone has a colour theme. And you can never go wrong with glitter. :frolic:

She's so cute. I had her as a kid and loved taking a bath with her.
Her smudgy eye is a nice add on too. Great find and amazing clean up.

That's amazing. I love the hoove extensions. :D

Thinning down the paint does the trick.
I'd rather do 3-5 coats of paint than just one. Especially with white this can build up to 10 coats (at least for a full body repaint, for a symbol or eyes it's normally done in 6 coats max). You'll see brushmarks for the first few coats. Just ignore them, let dry and paint the next coat.
If your brushmarks are very thick, wait until the thinner parts are dried, but the thick brushmarks are still wet and brush over it with a soft and dry-ish (wet brush wiped dry, but not actually dry) brush to smooth it out. This will make the coat more even.

I also use paintbrushs up to a size 2 for eyes and symbol, but only because these tend to have a better tip and are actually finer than a 1 or 0 size if you handle them with care. Try what feels more comfy for you and practise.

In the end you won't even think about it and just paint lashes and eyeliners without hesitating. ;)

I think having an army is fun and it is oddly satisfying to see pictures of pony armies.
For me I'm not sure if I would really start collecting identical ponys (not versions like Italy, HK, SoSoft, etc.), but I know people who do it and it was always so nice to find a pony for them and to make them happy...

I'm not too happy about people hoarding ponys just to control the market, but it's up to them what they do with their money.
It kinda makes the hunt for the pony harder but also the joy greater when you finally find one.

I voted that I have an army, but that is not really true. I have a herd of Heart Throbs (she was my first childhood pony (Italy version) and I looooove her), so I have several variants and customs.

I might make a series of Heart Throb customs in every colour of the rainbow and in different poses. I already started with a blue one, you can see it to the left.
The green one is an inverted HT. If you invert the colours in a picture editing program she looks exactly like the others. :D

Enjoy.

Oh wow. These are great rehairs. I love it when a needle just does its job for several customs. So satisfying. :lovey:
The flutter is really cool. No idea what glue would work for the bottle plastic though.
That red yarn works very good with both ponys. The Fakie is super cute. I'm curious to see her with the brushed out hair. And Apple Split looks fantastic. I can't tell you had problems with the paint. Hope you figure out what went wrong there. It's very frustrating to have your hard work peeling off. But now he seems to be perfect!

Oh wow. You were so busy with customs. They are flawless as always. How in equestria did you get the flocking on to evenly?
Adorable Nightlights. And the raincurls babys. Amazing. I can look at them all day.

Oh, she's super cool. Now I'm looking forward to customize that seapony twilight sparkle.
Yes, please give her a tail fin. Love the tinsel and the dark body.
The sparkly eyes also are a nice touch.
