Pony Corral / Re: Colour changing/leaching added photos

Bright Eyes actually is known for this. In fact I understand it's difficult to find her without pigmentation problems. The pooling purple inside her sealed neck is proof that it's her own pigmentation separating. As hathorcat mentioned, the only thing you can do for her is make sure you clean her fairly regularly as this is going to continue happening.

Personally, I've always wondered if there is a way to slow the process. I know salt helps set dyes, so I have a wild totally unscientific theory that perhaps a salt bath might help Bright Eyes but I don't have the appropriate chemical knowhow to decide if it's a good idea or not. The salt might have other unwanted effects. I also don't have Bright Eyes yet to try it out on.

Pony Corral / Re: 2 Questions about restoring so softs
« on: August 31, 2012, 05:18:41 PM »
If the yellowing is the glue then it is true it will not change back, but keep in mind it might not be. I had a couple of So-Softs come to me that I would have described as yellow but they cleaned up very well. In their cases I believe it was some kind of yellow mold on their fur because the discolouration was very even over their bodies and after about an hours soak in a cool 1/2 bleach bath they had gone back to their proper colour without any scrubbing. One of them was this Sundance:

Normally with So-Softs I find washing them gently with room temperature water, a toothbrush and Woolite to work quite well. Woolite is a stain remover designed for carpets, and as such works well on the acrylic flocking and won't loosen the glue. It leaves them nice and fluffy and if you finish up by giving them a conditioner wash afterwards they come out very soft.

Is it possible she's flat on the other side? It's hard to tell on that picture, but if she is it opens up other possibilities like magnet or part of a barrette or something along those lines.

It's a plastic aging thing. It means his plastisizor has leeched out and probebly evaporated. That's the process that makes some ponies sticky. Just in case, I would suggest pulling his head off (hot water to temporarily soften him and lots of work) and checking his insides. Sometimes the plastisizor ends up coating the inside in stickiness which in turn attracts plenty of bacteria and mold and could lead to cancer if left in there over time. If he does turn out to be sticky, no worries, a little Dawn dishsoap and a pipecleaner or small bottle brush will do the trick.

I love the site, but I'm rather obsessive about details and lists and things so I think that helps. As others have observed it's essentially an online spreadsheet. What I like is the ability to add pictures and the search feature. With just over 1200 on there now I like being able to narrow my collection down to something in particular I'm curious about. I also use the search occasionally for forum threads like "Show me yellow ponies". Just open the search and look for ponies with yellow bodies and I have lots to choose from with pictures right there.

It does bother me that recently the search randomly doesn't work though.

Pony Corral / Re: Show me Factory Error Ponies!
« on: August 27, 2012, 05:52:30 PM »
I've got a G1 Violet factory error! She's a sneaky one though. I found her a good fifteen years ago or so in a thrift shop along with a FF Blue Belle. The two of them were the freshest mintiest ponies I've ever found second hand, Blue Belle even had her ribbon tied in her tail. You can still see that lovely new plastic surface that has never been handled. Anyways. I've had these lovely ladies in my collection all that time and about two years ago I got Miss Violet out for a quick picture. Here she is:

Oh, you can't see her factory error? Neither could I for fifteen years, until I just happened to move her forelock a little bit:

Third eye!

(Look very carefully, it's hard to see against her gleaming white body.)

It seems the tamping machine jumped the gun and dabbed on the white of her eye before it was quite in place, so she's got the white paint in a perfect eye shape on her muzzle. Interestingly, she still did get the white for both her normal eyes tamped on as well.

They really do produce some cool pictures don't they? I have no idea why I haven't done a blacklight photoshoot with mine yet, I picked up a bulb especially for this purpose a couple of years ago and just haven't gotten around to it!

lovesbabysquirmy, so happy to see Brightglow there, and I wish I'd known you needed blue hearts Dazzleglow as well, I have an extra one! I just haven't added her to my trade list because I can't decide which one to keep.

She also didn't get a proper post-spa picture for the same reason:

Her stars are more sparse, but she was found in a thrift store while my friend and I were pony hunting so she has slightly more sentimental value.

My older one was a thrift store find years ago, but I just love her star clusters

The poor Brightglow I kept missed stars in her head except for one placed at the start of her mane. She also desperately needs a spa trip to fix the sticky mess in her hair. But she's my keeper because she's one of a friend's childhood collection entrusted to my care.

I based a comic book centaur character after Starglow, so I've come to think of mine as pretty special even though she was found in a thrift shop only about 10 years ago.

And just to illustrate how different the Glow n' Shows can look in different lights, here's that exact Starglow again:

Happyglow I'm still hunting, and I'd also dearly love to find all the Glow n' Shows with horrid hair so I can rehair them with glow in the dark tresses. I saw someone else do that on the Arena a couple years ago and I'm just wild about the idea.

So now reviewing this thread, I guess all my Glow n' Shows are special and different to me, and not just for their star patterns!

The last camera I used got confused at ponies with stunning red hair and either made it pink like these or put weird dark marks on the highlights, ah well...

I really should go through and take pictures of my redheads now that I have a better one.

Oh I love plushies! I'm always looking for more but it seems like no one ever has them for trade. I don't know why, but my favourites are the G3 licenced Nanco prize plushies with the fabric hair. I've only ever aquired ones I'm lucky enough to find in thrift stores though.

If anyone has some for trade please let me know! (I can't afford to buy.)

Just a small amount of my plushies collection:

Big Mac I won from a local Pony Meet, he was made by the talented anitas_mom if anyone wants to find others like him.

Pony Corral / Re: Wedding themed ponies!
« on: August 25, 2012, 10:49:58 AM »
In the UK Confetti was sold in a wedding theme complete with her gown and ring and everything. I do believe there was an Argie wedding pony as well? Not so sure, I'm certain someone will correct me. In G3 there was Graceful Glimmer. I know she was labelled as a "winter princess" but she sure looked bridal to me! If you're only looking for the spirit of weddings and not a pony depicting it themselves, Lucky was sold in the mail offers as the ring bearer for Satin n' Lace and Tux n' Tails, there's the newly released Flower Fillies set, and of course there is the G4 mane six in their bridesmaids gowns.

Personally I've always thought of Tink-a-tink-a-too as being a touch bridal with those bells of hers, but that's probably just me.

Walmart stocked the same three sets today. And is the So-Soft Pinkie Pie that kept loudly proclaiming she can walk and having muscle spasms new or not? (I don't pay attention to those, sorry.)

Maybe you could make her a saddle blanket or a dress that would cover the hole? Without pictures it's hard to say. She originally came with a purple saddle blanket, so maybe you could just find her original accessory somewhere and it would cover it up.

Pony Corral / Re: G3 Minty Differences?
« on: July 27, 2012, 05:38:57 PM »
Yes, I think it was the winter Minty that was a darker green like the one you have. Also to watch out for is the paler donkey posed one with red instead of pink on her candies. I don't know if either difference changes her value at all but some people like to collect one of each so it may be worth noting.

A great site for seeing each re-issue and the little differences between them is the Rereleases Encyclopedia.

Pony Corral / Re: G3 Shimmer Shine questions
« on: July 27, 2012, 05:32:45 PM »
I'm not sure how hard to find she is, but I do have other suggestions if it turns out she's a no go. (Keep in mind only her butt is see-through.)

There was a set of glittery translucent G3s called Divine Shine. They are pretty popular but you could probably still find a bait.

Also there were glittery translucent fakies which copied the G3 mould that many have used for customs and are available in a lot of colours. You may want to ask in the customs forum about the availability of those.

This sounds like a pretty cool custom, good luck!
