I really like the character designs, especially Zipp, but I still hate how non-horselike they are and I can't help but feel it was a calculated effort to manufacture another Brony Phenomenon and you just can't manufacture something like that.
Yeah that's a thing that I sorta dislike, I am excited for this new gen but it definately feels like Hasbro will try to replicate FIM's success as much as possible. Like..... why do they even have to call the new group of characters "Mane Five" ???

I don't like how they have individual, detailed teeth. There's a reason most cartoons have just bars for teeth.
It seems like they are going for a Disney-esque feel for the movie. If you look at Disney's Rapunzel, she also had detailed rendered teeth. visitors can't see pics , please register or login(not to say that I like it per se.... but that's the "style") Also Hitch looks a lot like a pony version of Flynn Rider to me.

They are quite adorable! I love that you used brown as a color for some of the ponies  interesting to see a combination of natural and fantasy horse colors.

I love G1 commercials and I've been watching them a lot on youtube recently! Also I think it's cute how in the later commercial they added the catch phrase "say LOVE if you love ponies" etc. So adorable!

There have been some fanarts with MLP done in Bluth style. visitors can't see pics , please register or loginI think Bluth style would work great for MLP. Don Bluth movies had a nice balance between cuteness and darkness (just like the first MLP special, Rescue at Midnight Castle!).

It makes me sad that in the recent generations they start to look less and less like horses.... :T
I wish they were like that. Unfortunately, I find G5 ponies a bit creepy with this human-like face (I mean, what's with the eyebrows?). G4 was also meh but I think G5 is the worst to date.
I personally like the addition of the eyebrows. I think it helps a lot to make them more expressive

So like, when do you think we'll start seeing other species in toy form? I'm curious about the pegasus and alleged unipegs.
I'm also curious what other species might make a comeback. I'd really like to see sea ponies, (not the misnamed g4 ones, those are mermaid ponies) come back. As well as flutters with stronger wings. Wingers too. And yes, new merponies.
I hope that we'll get some sea ponies too! (seahorse-like not mermaid ones haha). If I am correct no Generation besides G1 had sea ponies! Hope we'll see them again in G5

My Little Pony has been on my mind A LOT lately! Specifically the animated versions of MLP! So I wanted to ask a question here... which adaptation do you think had the prettiest animation?
I'll start first... as a kid I loved the animation in the 1986 MLP the movie. I know many people dislike it but I think that it looks lovely! The lush green forests and the small woodland animals made me think of Disney movies like Snow White and Bambi. The ponies in the movie also looked very cute .. the only thing I disliked was that their eyes didn't have any "whites" in them... with the only exception being the twinkle-eyed ponies.
When I grew older I found out about the first ever Special or pilot "Rescue at Midnight Castle" and I thought that this was the prettiest MLP ever looked! The ponies look very horsey but they also have some appropriate anthropomorphic expressions to them! I also liked that the color palette was a bit more muted and not overly saturated....
So yeah I think "Midnight Castle" is my favorite animation style... followed by the 1986 movie.

I think the bottom screenshot with Megan and Baby Moondancer has also been redrawn slightly, but it's less obvious.
Anyone know if these pictures were used on the backcard for this release? If it was only in a dealer catalog (not intended for the general public) it probably didn't matter too much that the screenshots didn't match 100% with what was on the video.
Possibly someone working on this got the specials mixed up, or didn't release they were two separate specials and that the stories weren't connected.
Oh wow! i didn't even realise that screenshot was redrawn/edited too! It looks like they added ponies with the color palettes of Posey, Ribbon and Lickety Split (I think)

I assume the picture was put together to promote this particular release of the pony/video. I don't think they'd be able to have that kind of blush on Firefly if it was an animation cel. As for why they did it, maybe they preferred to show this design of Megan since it looks more like the doll than what she looked like in RaMC. Or that the art style of Escape from Catrina in general matches better with the one Hasbro was using at the time.
Thank you for answering! That sounds very possible! I think the actual Megan doll was released after the 'Midnight Castle' special and she looked very different than her first animated design.... But still that's kind of a false advertising there haha.
