Pony Corral / Re: Friends/Family who support collecting?
« on: March 22, 2016, 01:53:24 AM »
My mum is very supportive. When ever I get a new g1 or 3 she asks me about it (her favorite Gens). This Christmas just gone she made an effort to find as much MLP merch as she cod for gifts.
My dad doesn't seem to have an opinion, he's mostly OK. Sometimes he says nasty things but I know he doesn't mean it really. He's a complete Tolkien geek any way (as am I), he he's in no position to judge. My brother is cool with it, sometimes he tells me I'm sad, but again we know deep down he is an utter geek, but he is so concerned about what other people think of him he wouldn't admit it. I think that's why he sometimes makes fun of me.

None of my friends have ever acted negatively. Again I mostly surround myself in more geeky or just open minded circles, so when I tell them, they tend to just say it's cool. :)

I can certainly empathize with the frustration of people wanting you to change who you are, though. There were people I've met in life who tried--and failed--to do that to me and it's never a pleasant experience.

I'm sure Bob Dylan wasn't thinking of toy collectors when he wrote this, but I always think of it when people try to go after my "maturity" for collecting:

Ah, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now.

True maturity isn't about giving up everything that made you happy and putting on a front to appease the world. It's about becoming comfortable in your own skin, recognizing yourself for who you truly are, and becoming strong / confident / assertive enough to be that person regardless of what others think.

It can be easier said then done, but it's better to be hated for who you are than to be loved for who you're not. And that definitely has to start from within.

Hmmmmm well the advice my mother always gave me was, "If you are feeling uncomfortable about the purchase, then either you know deep down that you should NOT be spending this money frivolously, OR you probably aren't old enough to be buying [whatever]."  AND this also included items after I turned 18, like um, adult magazines!  I think the only time she was forceful about me forking out the money at a cashier for something I was embarrassed about was buying my sanitary pads when I was 13, 14...  and then she pointed out the alternative of NOT purchasing them.  Thinking about that alternative made it a lot easier to buy the silly things! LOL

Just another perspective....

I think both of these are really valid posts. I agree strongly with both. I am currently considering making a big investment on a collectable. I'm unsure and I've done the same as you, gone to do it in the past then pulled out for what ever reason. I am now going to go ahead with it, I can afford to. I am an adult. My parents wont get it, but also wont begrudge it because it's my money that I have earned.

If you are certain that is what you want go ahead and commission it. The artist isn't going to make judgement either way if they get paid their due.

Pony Corral / Re: Int'l Princess Sparkle restored! (lotsa pics!)

She looks amazing! I had this (still do) pony as a child. Seriously I thought she was the absolute pinnacle of amazingness. Sadly mine no longer lights up after her batteries leaked. But I think she is a great pony. She's so OTT.

Pony Corral / Re: Help Storing Ponies??
« on: March 17, 2016, 04:07:37 AM »
Rotating is definitely the way to go to make the most of them. If the other ponies are being packed away, as the others have said, either pop in some silica or make sure they have plenty of air if they are in plastic. And find space in a room ... I made ther mistake of storing my ponies in plastic in the attic. A few of the 1st and 2nd year g1 ladies are now suffering mold growth insid ethem from where they most likely got all sweaty in the summer :( Infact I am moving them down into my room, and I am going to go with tissue paper this time.

Pony Corral / Re: What drew you to MLP?
« on: March 16, 2016, 01:38:52 PM »
At first I think it was burning envy! When I was a kid (in lat 80's early 90's g1 days), we were pretty low income. My two best friends familys were way better off and they both had huge amounts of MLPs. I can remember sighing over them and playing with them when i went to their houses to play, and one friend would let me borrow one until we next saw each other for a play date (we always used to exchange toys) So, for a few years MLP were these wonderful, exotic, completely unattainable toys.

Then one day my friends mum gave me a hand me down Shady (my friend didn't want her) and she was like the holy grail or something. I never had many as a young child as my parents could only afford them for christmas and birthdays. So they were always very special. When I was 11-13 with my own pocket money, i used to get 2ns had ponies from school fetes and things. I think G2 was about by then.

I don't know ... they have always just been a toy I loved and cherished. I never truly "grew out" of them, just put them away for a few years. Then when I was about 18, I discovered Ebay. That was it really ...

Hi Jen, welcome to the forum. This is easily one of the most laid back and friendly forums I have ever had the pleasure of using, with a real varied group of users. No worries about the rambling ... rambling about ponies is something we all enjoy ;)

Aww shes so beautiful! She look so shy and unsure. I love natural coloured ponies. I think thats why i've always loved Snuzzle and the brown Snuzzle/Peachy variants you can get.

Pony Corral / Re: If you could change one color (game)
« on: March 14, 2016, 12:53:49 PM »
I think there should be another pony the same colour as Ice Crystal- he's a beautiful colour.

He is a beautiful colour, I've always thought cotton candy would always look lovely and understated in his colour.

However I stand by making him grey, with his white mane and tail and light symbol he would almost look like a real horse :D

The Dollhouse / Begoth Casual Storm series 2

I'm just seeing if there is any interest in this doll at all, I have no idea if she has any kind of collectors market. She has never been opened and been in storage for years.  I'm happy to take offers on her here before I try eBay for her.
