I actually have some recent scores to show off at last.
First, was at Vinnie's a couple days ago...

Also at Vinnie's that same day...

Then just today at Goodwill for $3.00...

Lastly, about a week ago at Goodwill, I paid $25 for this...

loginIt was just the bare console. The 20GB hard drive, little screen, the cables, and controller, I already had. When I got it home and first tried it out, it had the dreaded red ring of death. Fortunately, thanks to the magic of YouTube, I was able to find a real easy to follow tutorial on how to fix this. Just had to open it up, remove the heat sinks and clean off the thermal compound that was on the heatsinks, CPU, and GPU (
the workers at the factory used waaaaaay too much.)
After that, since I don't have a heat gun handy, I just ran a hair dryer on high over the CPU and GPU for about 5 minutes to reset the solder connections. I added a fresh application of thermal compound, put it back together, and minutes later, was singing, "
This was a triumph! I'm making a note here. Huge success. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction..."
So for $25 and a little labor, I now have a fully functional XBox 360.
