Pony Corral / Re: is anyone else feeling nostalgic for the G3 times?
« on: July 13, 2013, 01:18:37 PM »
I actually like G4 better.  G3 just had way too many characters, many of whom weren't particularly distinct from one another.  While I wish G4 would release more of the blindbag characters as brushables (particularly the boys), I'm happy not to be overwhelmed with so many ponies any more.  I do agree though that I liked the G3 size better, and for those who collected playsets, I can see why the G3 playsets were better.

Pony Corral / Re: Why don't they have FEET!!!?
« on: July 13, 2013, 01:16:00 PM »
The reason for no feet is simple:  Ever lost Barbie's shoes when you were playing with her?

The snap on feet/shoes mean that the shoes don't fall off when you're playing with the dolls and moving them around.  Bratz actually released "bare feet" for some of their dolls, which are basically snap on feet with no shoe.  Or, if you snap on a high heel, the doll's foot is visible inside the shoe, meaning if you snap an African-American-skintone foot onto a Hispanic-skintone doll (or vice versa) it looks pretty goofy :)

I don't know if Equestria Girls can stand up unaided but Bratz can, because the shoe/foot is so tight to the leg that it can support the doll's weight.

Barbie shoes just slip over the foot, so they fall off very easily and get lost.

Too many ponies...I'm sorry, I don't understand this concept.  Can you explain it to me?  :P

Lovely ponies, congrats to your girls!

Well, we had Quarterback and Slugger.  But girls play sports too!  I guess we had the Tennis ponywear, but a Tennis pony would have been great.  We had Glitter Glide, the figure skating pony, in G3, and Ace in Tales had a soccer ball for his symbol, wish he'd gotten a toy.

I remember loving 4-Speed the Truck Pony, but I wanted a Pilot pony too.  So...Where's my FiM Spitfire?! :D

Pony Corral / Re: Recent cassette tape I got...
« on: July 10, 2013, 06:06:14 AM »
I still have my cassette from the pony story Lost in the Clouds, which I got when I was a little girl.  On the other side, I recorded my dog barking.  My dog passed away when I was in grade 6 but I can still put that tape in and hear her...she used to hum before she barked, she was so happy to see me.

I got the purple one dirt cheap (ie, spare change cheap) from a seller who hated the eyelashes so bad!  I think she looks weird, but I kind of get a kick out of her lashapillars.  :D

Come on.  She asks you to style her hair and it sounds like a THREAT.  I cannot wait to buy her.

I can't wait to see that big Nightmare Moon in person.

I think this thread is a good idea.  If previous posters made threads about not wanting children it's not the place to bring up this topic as myself being 35 and childless I find a lot of people heaping me with censure and / or pity because I haven't got kids; for people who never want kids, argument against their choice isn't helpful.

However those who DO have kids, I am honestly GLAD they love and want their children and are happy to have them!  And I think it's perfectly appropriate to have a thread like this where moms can celebrate how much they love having their kids.

Off Topic / Re: Whats one food item you cant live without?
« on: July 03, 2013, 11:46:49 AM »
I want to say "soy cream" but it's not much use to me without coffee.

So:  Assuming I am in a place where typical fare is available but more exotic fare is not:  Soy cream.

Assuming I am on survival exercise and I'm going to be eating sticks and bugs aside from the one food in my pack...Dammit.  I really want to say rice.  It's tasty and agrees with me.  But the honest answer is caffeine.

See aforementioned survival exercise and me being the officer who snuck six pepsis into camp.  When discovered, suggested to the sergeant that this being a survival exercise, if he wanted all the people on it to survive, I should not be separated from caffeine.

Pony Corral / Re: Why Do We Collect......
« on: July 02, 2013, 06:09:25 AM »
I collected and played with ponies as a child.  There are certain times of year I think of ponies and good memories.  I also like how ponies helped me make friends AS A GROWNUP when I was new in this city.  I still like handling and displaying my ponies, and...

This might sound goofy but...

When I was about twelve I told my ponies that even though I was going to grow up I would always love them and look after them.  So far, so good :)

I like when ponies help you make threads.  I've gotten compliments on the bus when I wear pony shirts ;)

Pony Corral / Re: What Inspired You to Begin Collecting MLPs?
« on: June 30, 2013, 05:33:52 AM »
I loved ponies as a child and had more than a hundred.  When I became a teenager my mom started pressuring me to stop buying toys.  I remember being kind of jealous of kids I baby sat for having ponies like Pony Bride (I know she's common, but she's so pretty!), Sweetheart Sisters, and other ponies that came out after I'd stopped getting toys as gifts.

Then I went to university and military service.  Suddenly no parents breathing down my neck and my own income.  I bought toys. :)  G2 Ponies!  I remember getting Sky Shimmer at the Base Canex!  I also bought Transformers and Gargoyles at that time in my life.  I wasn't yet buying or trading on the internet.

...I actually don't remember when I first came to the Arena.  I'd picked up a few ponies at yard sales, but wasn't thinking about them regularly.  Maybe it was because my mom wanted me to get rid of the stuff in her attic...I decided to sell most of my pony accessories.  But then I used the money I made to buy more ponies.  All the ponies I secretly wanted when I was a teenager.

So, my G1 collection is now:  139 of my original ponies, comprising most of Years 1-5 and a handful of 6, and 164 ponies bought in my adult life, mostly Years 6-10 and also any ponies from the first five years that I'd given away to other kids.

I also have G2, G3 and G4.
