Pony Corral / Rediscovered my Childhood Fanfiction Series!
« on: August 14, 2016, 03:46:39 PM »
When I was a kid, I wrote a (very primitive) MLP fanfiction series and recorded the stories to cassette tape.  I thought I'd lost these old cassette tapes forever when we moved house so was really excited to find them in storage earlier this week!

They're hilariously awful and my common London accent makes me cringe.  But I'm still in the process of converting them to MP3 and uploading them to Youtube where other people can enjoy a good laugh at them if they so choose.  I challenge anyone to last through more than thirty seconds of my ear piercing acapella singing! :P

The nostalgia is making me quite tearful tonight.  This has been a really bad week for me so I'm glad these showed up to create a distraction!

I started drawing up a map many years ago when I wrote a MLP fanfiction series.  I don't know where it went unfortunately - otherwise I'd scan it and give everyone a laugh!

Ugh, I'm so sick of eBay. >.<

I sold a (non-pony) toy to a buyer in Brazil.  Last week, the buyer opens an item not received case on me and asks for a refund.  I had a horrid feeling she was trying it on but I still wrote to her to tell her when it had been shipped.  I asked her to wait a few more days but, if she had still not received it then, let me know and I would refund her in full and open a claim with Royal Mail.

No more contact from the buyer, she just closed the case as soon as she could at which point eBay kindly gave her a full refund from my Paypal account.

No sooner had she received her refund than she leaves me a neutral feedback and says, "Its arrives very late".  Hang on a moment.  So she DID receive it, just "very late"?  I know eBay always side with the buyer but apparently this woman now has the toy and a full refund and I'm out of pocket with a neutral feedback?  It's not my fault if the item was delayed in transit, I have the post office receipt to prove it was sent in good time after I received her payment.

I'm not sure what to do.  There's obviously a language barrier between the buyer and I, the last few times I've used online chat for eBay issues, they've magically disconnected me.  The toy itself was worth a tiny amount (I've last far more on shipping it to Brazil ironically!) so it hardly seems worth racking up a big phone bill to eBay but I don't see why she should get away with having a free toy and leaving me bad feedback.

What would you do?

I think it's the top off of one of the lanterns, isn't it?

Too many to mention - I've been collecting for a looong time and bargains were easier to find at car boot sales and the like years ago.  Big bag of ponies including a Piggy and prototype Baby Explorer for £2, Thailand Tornado for 50p, two Hong Kong Tornados for £1 each, Lightning for 65p, a lot of twelve ponies including Ice Crystal, Baby Bonnet School of Dance and Show Stable for £5, two Thunderclouds for £1 each, Sunburst for £1, Baby Candy for 20p, Baby Ruby for £1, four Surprise Newborns for 50p each, Spanish Baby Ribbon and Baby Heart Throb for 50p each, Macau Peachy and Blue Belle for £1 each, Baby Up Up And Away and Baby Sweet Tooth for 50p each...  I could go on but I'd be listing ponies all night.  The majority of my ponies cost £1 or under back in the day.

My cheapest ever pony was Baby Fifi for 2p. :)

Pony Corral / Re: Mistaken a real MLP for a fakie?
« on: April 30, 2016, 04:47:34 PM »
Yes, my Piggy Pony.  I wouldn't have got her at all except that she was sold as part of a big carrier bag of ponies (mostly fakies) for £2 and I wanted another pony in the bag.  She terrified me...my mum said she looked like a real MLP but I laughed and said "of course not" and refused to even look at the poor pony due to her spooky, rusted eyes.

She lived in my fakie box for about four years before I found out the truth!  The worst bit is that I have a vague recollection of seeing two ponies that looked like "that weird scary fakie" at a car boot sale that same summer...which I left there, of course.  Still don't know if they were real piggies or not.

Then there was a plush pony at a charity shop.  I remember it being white with eyeshadow and my mum saying it couldn't be real because "real MLPs don't wear eyeshadow".  Possibly it was Hasbro Softies Honeycomb.  Another time I remember leaving a hard plastic carousel horse at a toy fair.  I'm not sure but it might have been Circle Dancer.  I try not to think about those times.  I was only a kid then so it's possible my memory is playing tricks and the piggies, Honeycomb and Circle Dancer all really WERE fakies, but it still makes me sick to my stomach to think about it!

I bought a camera on eBay.  Yes, stupid idea in the first place really but this model is discontinued and I really want one for when my own finally packs up (which can't be long now).  The seller stated that it was in 100% working condition and, while none of the photos actually showed it switched on, the camera looked all right on the outside so I decided to take a risk.  It cost me £24.99 including shipping.  £9.00 of that was for shipping but the actual stamp price was only 4.70 euros...but that's another issue all together.

The camera came from Portugal.  When it arrived, it was packed TERRIBLY.  One tiny bit of bubble wrap around the camera in a box that was far too big for it...so the camera was sliding from side to side banging against the edges of the box.  The bubble wrap itself was obviously reused and not one bubble still had any air in it.  It was just flat plastic.

Unsurprisingly, the camera is faulty.  You can't see anything through the screen except a flickering pink out of focus fog and the photos it takes are also pink tinted and totally fuzzy.

The seller claims there was nothing wrong with the camera when it left him (well, of course he would...) but either way this is clearly his fault for not packing the item properly.  He says if I return it to him (at my own expense) he will give me a full refund.

I've got a horrible feeling this is what the eBay rules actually state?  But I wasn't sure as in this case it is obviously the seller's fault that the item got broken.  Do I have any leg to stand on?  Shipping to Portugal is going to be horrible, especially as I will have to use some kind of signed for/insured service because I don't trust this seller not to say it never got there at all.

Why did this have to happen at a time when I literally have no money?  I don't even have the pennies to scrape together to pay the shipping back to him!  It just seems I always get stuck with the short straw on eBay, whether as a buyer or a seller. :(

Pony Corral / Re: Odd Dollymix Minty?
« on: April 16, 2016, 01:49:28 AM »
Yes, Minty and Mainsail were both originally produced with incorrectly coloured tails.  The error was only corrected when the second wave was released three or four months later.  So both versions were probably produced in equal numbers and I doubt it affects her value really.

Sorry, I can't help on value, I struggled to sell some on eBay recently but I think there's still a market for them outside the UK.  (International shipping probably put people off of buying mine!)

Have her!  (That's my beautiful girl in the Wiki photo) My parents gave her to me one Easter when I was a child.

Never!  Gosh, it took me forever to even start selling duplicate ponies, I could never throw one away! :(

Only three more days left to enter the competition. :)

Truly.  She was my favourite in the cartoons as a child (well, after Lancer but there was no toy made of him) and I scoured car boot sales for her every weekend.  Never found her, of course, as she wasn't sold in the UK.  I can just imagine my childhood self finding her on the doorstep!

Off Topic / Re: Did you hear about SeaWorld's announcement!?
« on: March 19, 2016, 08:05:00 PM »
*chin rubs* So they have agreed to stop breeding orca themselves... my question would be what are their future plans? Once the current population die off, will they be importing more? Orca are big business. I can't see them giving up on keeping orca completely.

That's what I was trying to say (but you put it a lot clearer than I did!)

My problem is not with their reasons behind it (we all know it's a marketing ploy but it makes no difference as long as it's leading the right way) but I don't think they've made their future plans very clear at all.  As I said, they've made sure they've got a new baby and two on the way before they were forced into doing this and I can't see they've said anything about not getting more captive orcas from elsewhere.  It's all well and good not breeding them themselves, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're intending to buy from elsewhere (and possibly from aquariums where the animals are treated even more appallingly because, believe me, there are sadly far, far worse places than Seaworld) :(

Well, any step towards the end of sea circuses is a step in the right direction.  However, I'm going to be the controversial, odd one out here.  I think Seaworld were pretty much forced into this by all the negative publicity they've received since Blackfish.  They feared they'd lose more supporters over Tilikum's inevitable death so they had to do something to make the public think they were taking all their comments on board and were putting the interests of their animals first.

So yes, I'm glad they've agreed to stop breeding orcas.  But this is very definitely a marketing ploy and it's working.  The public are brainwashed and people who were anti-Seaworld before have suddenly decided to buy tickets because of this.  It's a step in the right direction but it's a tiny step and for the wrong reasons.  This was obviously planned well in advance.  Bear in mind they have a 1-year-old orca, bred from an underage orca.  I understand they also have two pregnant orcas so orcas in captivity are not going to be a thing of the past any time soon.  Also, they don't seem to have made any statement about buying orcas bred in captivity from elsewhere from what I've seen?

I'm very involved with several dolphin/whale conservation groups and most people agree with me.  I'm all for the end of these majestic creatures being made to perform humiliating tricks but I fear this is just some careful wording in order to get ticket sales back up.  There are horrific things happening out there to dolphins and whales - not specifically at Seaworld but Google the "Taiji dolphin hunt" to see the amount of dolphins being slaughtered in Japan.  The fisherman claim it's tradition (nonsense as it's a relatively new thing) and they hunt the dolphins for their meat but the meat actually contains mercury and is worth a pittance compared to the money they make selling performing dolphins to aquariums.  Nothing will change until these gross places are shut down for good.  And I fear this move by Seaworld is just going to encourage people to visit and undo all the good that has been done so far.

(Not trying to start a debate, this is just my opinion!)
