Haha, we are really into that card release nerdification :D

I really want to recommend CHrissytrees page for accessories, where she has a MOC section, showing of MOC/MIBs in different styles.
Take the flutter ponies for example (scroll down a bit) https://mylittleponyaccessories.weebly.com/page-2-candy-cane---great-hair.html
You have the same ponies in US box, UK box, french box, canadian box, german box, dutch box, and even italian boxes (not pictured though). The ponies are all the same, but the packages are different (except the spanish ones, who are made in spain)
As for myself, I have three MIB Rosedusts. If it where only for the pony, I would probably have settled with one, but I have them in US (there are even two different versions of the US ones) dutch version and french second release version. I also have my second MIB Wind drifter on the way (in italian box, my first one is in french) and the italian boxes are so much different form the other boxes.  Collecting variant boxes is like collecting variant ponies, there is actually much more diversity in pony packaging that you might think :)

Another example (now you got me going, this is one of my favourite topics! :D ) is the original baby ponies. https://mylittleponyaccessories.weebly.com/page-1-7-character---brush-n-grow.html  They where sold both on card and in box with accessories, and both boxes and cards comes in a few different versions. I have Firefly both boxed and carded. Again, same pony, different style of package :P (Yes, I'm a nerd)
And a third one (same link as above, just scroll further down) are the FT babies. Just small subtle differences as if its a puched hanging hole or open hanging hole to determine if the box is US or UK. Or has the dutch boxes, UX boxed, but with a sticker for Belgian importer.
And my favourite ones, the carded FT babies, first the ones that came in the Dutch MLP club, and the spanish carded one. :)

As for the fable ponies, I have seen Yellow Gusty, long hair Firefly and Powder. I have the backcard for Surprise, and have seen Gusty with card, but no MOCs. I have still not seen Heart Throb, Sky Flier or Sparkler from that set MOC though.
Same goes for the pony freinds. Cupcake Posey and Cherries Jubilee are the only MOCs I have seen. None of the others. I'm not even sure if it is Shady or Tootsie that goes with the set (different on backcard, as to pamphlet)
I'm not even sure I have seen all rainbow ponies on the vertical cards either.
(However, I have UK carded Windy, that I'm thinking about decarding ;) :P )

Then not to forget all the mail order versions, and by that I dont mean mailorder like everyoneelse is talking about mailorder ponies, but the regular ponies you could order from catalogue companies, like Sears and JC Penneys. I have seen a few from the early sets but not all of them. (at the bottom of this page https://mylittleponyaccessories.weebly.com/mail-order.html )

wow! If I had the money I would totally buy. I wish I had! This is an amazing collection,  I love sea ponies!    :freak: :freak:
And as a seapony expert, maybe you can tell how many of the blue and pink haired italian that is known to exist?

I will definately keep my eyes open if you sell individual later on. there is so much things there I want (or need maybe is a better word )

I do understand that people might want the replica to look as close to original as possible, and by that choose to not alter from the original.

Although I love the idea of pearly princess wands, but my OCD brain would go mad if I had one pearly among the rest of the glittery wands with my princesses (although, noone says its impossible for the princesses to have TWO wands, one glittery and one pearly :P )

And I really admire the replicas done. the people making them are really talented ( I wish I had that talent as well)

All I'm asking for is just one little mark as replica :P
Maybe it could be an idea of collecting a list of "marks", as maybe a list of all replicas would be quite big I guess, but a list of "if your accessory contains a heart shaped paint mark (like bright rabbit wrote above) then i'ts a custom piece made by bright rabbit, or something like that.

By common releases, do you mean US release, or do you include European releases as well? Or releases that where sold both in Europe/US/Other places, but with different cards/boxes? (and by that I mean english text cards and boxes, not counting regular ponies in other language cards/boxes). So it kind of depends how you want to narrow it down, and how you define common releases :P

If only US releases, I think most of them have been found MOC, but for European releases of the same ponies, there are still some not found. Like for example Lickety Split had different cards in US, then some parts of Europe (although she still exists MOC in both ^^)

Then we have European ponies like Mountain boys, where I dont think all of them are known to be found MOC yet, I think I have seen maybe 3 or 4 of them only.

Oh, I remember when I started collecting, your site was one of my favourites, showing so many cool nirvanas. I think your site is one of the reasons I got into nirvana collecting actually :P

Will you be adding more nirvanas to the sales, or have you sold off most of them too?

Leikin, thanks for the info! You are right, I found a MOC image here:
http://www.ponylande.de/g1/jahre/jahr3/zitroenchenb.php

Anything else as PM, didn't mean to hijack the thread. :)

I think that is actually the MOC that I have now (that unfortunately is not so MOC anymore) I recognize the little lost piece on the card right above the bubble. ^^
Will answer your PM too, I'm just on the wrong computer for pics right now.

Hey, that's cool, on the boxes of the Italian sea ponies they still use the old Dutch spelling. It says "kompleet", nowadays it's more common to spell it "compleet". It's nice to see some old Dutch again. :D
Didnt know that (or well, my knowledge in dutch is just what I can guess the meaning of, since its similarity to german and swedish  )
It's another way of nostalgia with these old toys, seeing older language used :)

It occurs to me maybe KKV's paperwork lists one seasonal promotion and maybe there is another booklet or document with a second promotion.

That could very well be the reason. I'm not familiar with the spring vs fall releases of ponies, but I guess that doesnt really matter, since they come both with and without the charms.

Thanks for checking trough your MIB Pics for me!   :sunny: Will dig through the ones I have saved as well (I'm on the wrong computer now though) and list here what I find.
Would be interesting if we could se some pattern in the releases, or if they are just random.
Did all of them you found have the sticker with free charm included?

That sounds like a fun adventure.
Doesn't it! :D Thats what I love about ponies, there is always something new to dig your head into and explore.  After 35 years, and there is still soo much we dont know about ^^

I remember getting a charm with my Sherbet as a child. I also have a MOC Barnacle with a charm inside.
Thanks for the info! :) I assume it was a US Sherbet?  And is your Barnacle on US card as well?

Oh, interesting find! Good catch! :)  So it seems both sweetberries and watercolour ponies did have them even if not listed.
I wonder if all ponies in the set had them at one point, or if it was just included with certain ponies in each set?

I think I need to go on a "collecting images on MIBs with mommy charms"-adventure! *Feeling the plot thickens* :P

This IS an jmportant topic, however, it seem to be a sensitive one as well.  I have in previous discussions basicly been told off that I had no opinion in thinking replicas should be possible to identify as such, as it is the artistic freedom, and that people dont care if they are not recognisable as replicas in ten years. So yeah, it's definately a sensitive subject.

For me, I'm whole heartedly for marking them as replicas in one way or the other. I who never have had a real purple dc goblet would probably not know if I bought a replica, if it wasnt marked.
I saw someone recently that had bought cusom shells in a lot, and it wasnt until she got them she realised they where replicas, as they where not marked as such in the lot auction.

So non marked replicas WILL come up and bite us in the rear soon enough, and we will have the debates on if they are replicas or variants, and people may be unintededly scammed to pay a lot for things they think are real, if maybe both sellers and buyers are unaware of that they are replicas. Sure, those who make replicas are probably all legit and  state them as replicas, but further down the line, that information will vanish when sold again and again, if they are not properly marked.

I mean, we still have collectors asking why they cant find the HCG1C ponies, in the inventory books, even when they are quite wide known and documented as to what they are, and where they originates from.
So unmarked replicas will be a h*ll of a lot worse, as there are no collective knowledge or documentation on them anywhere.

In the US, the charms were randomly included in with some sets for a limited time (ie not the whole year's production run of a specific pony). They were included in ponies shipped to retailers during the 2nd quarter of 1988 (April - June). There was a tv commercial advertising the charms as a special promotion to go along with the rebranding of MLP which included the "I'm a My Little Pony Mommy" jingle.

The charms came with:
- Peek-a-Boo Babies
- Magic Message Ponies
- Brush 'n Grow Ponies
- Sundae Best Ponies
- Summer Wing Ponies
- Newborn Twins (2nd year)
- Princess Ponies (2nd year)
- Twice As Fancy (2nd year)

I have a Hasbro Marketing book for 1988 that outlines this and other promotions they planned to offer for other toy lines that year. So this is "straight from the horse's mouth" so to speak. ;)

Interesting read! You dont have Pictures from the marketing book maybe? :)

I wonder though, as the sweetberry ponies are not mentioned on your list, and my Cherry treats has one I guess it is possible they came with other sets as well, like maybe the watercolour Babies?

Hello Leikin, please feel free to provide any info on the accessories you have and I'll be glad to correct it. Also, the Wiki is still missing a MOC image of that Spanish Bro Pony. You could send it to me at info(at)tiara546.de and I would fill that in as well. :)

The light blue cumb, and the spoon and plate seems to be right. She also had a light yellow ribbon.  The bib and bottle pictured with her on the wiki did not come with her, at least not in any of the packages I have seen her in, and I doubt there would be more spanish packagings then the carded one, and the one with the stroller.
Will send you the pic, and have a few other that might be needed for the wiki as well :)

I still spy some pretty neat Lemondrops in that picture  ;)
There are, my favourite Agua Limon being one of them
