This is just my personal opinion, but . . . ponies look better with shorter manes.  Like the length of G1 Glory or Blossom's mane.  I think I'd like even the not-so-horsey gens more, like G4, if they had more modest hair + forelocks. (Just to be really pedantic, I do not consider bangs (like G3.5 Cheerilee) to be the same as a forelock.  Has to be a thin bit of hair going straight down the nose.)

I had Brush 'n Grow Bouquet as a kid and her mane made her not-fun for hairplay, ironically. It got in the way.  It was too thick for my clumsy little-kid hands to style. And when I tried to brush and comb her, the bristles / teeth broke off.

Here are two pages from the My Little Pony 'n Friends presskit.  I don't think I ever uploaded the others, but I will soon.:)

Oh, Rhaegar, so that's your Tumblr account with all the great MLP cels!  I love seeing them, does my heart good to know some Escape from Catrina cels survived and made it to collectors!

I know the unnamed purple Valentine pony and white Valentine pony were offered by Current stationery company, but I'm wondering if they were officially referred to as twins or if that's just something collectors called them.  I know you could buy one without the other . . .

How funny of them to label her "First Tooth Pony" like that was her defining trait??  Not the Valentines theme?

Pic is from My Little Pony Accessories.

Wow, I love seeing the Cotton Candy comparisons!

I can't wait for the Celestial ponies and the mini ponies, the RaMC boxed set is amazing.  The art!!  Here's the back of the box:

They were on Amazon from third party sellers, but not from BF.

The Twinkle Eyes were stocked at independent toy stores, sporadically at Nordstorm Rack I think?, at Cracker Barrel, and at Meijer.  I don't have any Cracker Barrel or Meijer in my state so I ordered online from small independent toy stores.

I'm REALLY glad they're being listed on Amazon this time, that will make them so much more available to people who couldn't otherwise get them.

In the Satin 'n Lace pamphlet it's mentioned that the Collector ponies and Birthflower ponies are guests at her wedding.  (You know--so you have to buy them all, ha ha.)  Probably doesn't quite count as "wedding ponies" but still fun.  This was the early pamphlet so although she had plenty of guests, she had no groom.

It's always interesting to me the way the spouse-to-be is totally incidental in wedding toys aimed at really young girls. When you're young the appeal is more about having a cool party and cake and everyone congratulating you.

@maycrestmom Those aren't prototypes, they're fan customs.

If you're looking for ponies in the Crumpet pose to customize there are lots of fakies in that mold and at least one HQG1C I can think of (the pink Date Night Pony.)

They will be singles as far as I've heard.  They had a mockup of the box at the Texas toy show in October and it was a single box with "Collect them all!" on the side.  Four ponies total.  Really stellar (hee hee) box design!

Pony Corral / Re: Purchasing rehairs
« on: May 14, 2023, 04:19:24 PM »
I think it would just really depend on the pony, the individual bidders, and how well-done the rehair was.  Like, is it good quality hair?  Is it the right color (if they were going for accuracy) or pleasant colors (if they were doing something original)?  Are the ends of the hair uneven?

Sorry for this non-answer answer, ha ha

I'll get back to you on that one after I put on my tinfoil hat :P

I've been thinking about making a custom set of BF Twinkle Eye collector ponies so it all works out.

Someone on Facebook posted comparison shots of the Basic Fun Minty from a couple years ago versus the new Basic Fun Minty, and they have slightly different eye styles.  It's hard to describe, but with the first set the eye paint kind of overruns the original eye socket mold.  (Probably to avoid the lizard eye thing that the Hasbro retro Collector ponies had . . . Molds tend to shrink a little when they are recast.)

The eyes do look cuter on the newer set so I guess I'm buying all of them again, ha ha!  Oh, also the two Mintys had slightly different hair shades.  One had white hair, one had more silvery-white.

Just because Hasbro has been lenient towards customs in the past and turned a blind eye doesn't mean they always will.  What's better than "blaming Hasbro" for C&Ds is using foresight to avoid a situation where Hasbro decides C&Ds are necessary.  Especially when it could impact customizers who didn't ask to be involved in all this.

I am all for moving on and/or creating a new thread.

My Little Wiki didn't even list the Precious Pocket pony pose (now that's a phrase) info at the time when BF was making their prototypes.

Texas toy show, September 2022 - Basic Fun unveils its prototypes, already in the Tootsie and Posey pose

Pony Fair West, September 2022 - a former Hasbro employee says the Celestial ponies (actual set name was the Fancy Swirl ponies iirc) were meant to be in the Pocket Pony poses.  This is also where the names (Mistyglow etc) were revealed.

February 2023 - My Little Wiki is updated with the names and poses.

So even if BF had wanted to be 100% accurate, the info wasn't out there at the time when they were doing research.

This is the entirety of the info that was on the Wiki when BF started developing their set:

Quote
Only the concept art seems to have been produced but never the actual ponies.  They are often referred to as the Celestial ponies, but Hasbro's trademarked name for the set was the Fancy Swirl ponies.

That said, I don't think it matters if BF purposely skipped the Precious Pocket poses versus being unaware of them.  How many people have made a Baby Parasol in the Baby Cotton Candy pose or a Baby Medley in Baby Firefly's pose?  Does it make sense for a customizer to get angry if someone saw their Baby Parasol, thought "wow good idea!", and made a similar custom?  There are only so many poses and the idea is derived from Hasbro's "make baby ponies that look like their moms" era.

Edit:  Your customs look great, BlackCurtains!  (Panda's do as well.)  Do you think you'll ever finish them?  I have a set of G3 Twinkle Eyes that have been loitering in my custom bin for ten years, ha ha.
