Pony Corral / Re: The Fakie Appreciation Thread! Show us yer Fakies!

After scrolling through this thread, everything I thought I knew about fakies has been completely turned on its head. Some fakies are lovely! AND they have Hasbro stamps? Tricky tricky but cute nonetheless. That light-up NZ G3 is particularly cool.

They are extremely addicting! I'm starting to think this was a bad idea, haha.
I now have 46 ponies and another 5 coming my way, Apple Delight Mama and Baby -brother?- And now of course I want to find daddy and sister ...
Guess I will have to hold back now ... My pony funds are way out.

Woo 46 already! I'm not doing any better—my herd has gone from 21 to 26 in the last 5 days. I may have a few sparkle pony doubles so the trade threads may be my next move to maintain at least some of my pony funds.

She is quite beautiful :D The whole set of German rainbows is sooo pretty. Too bad they are expensive or I would have an army! Rainbows are awesome to see no matter where they come from ;) Brazilians look a bit shy which is very cute, Argies are so bright, Italians have tropical hair (Starshine is quite pretty from there too :D), Mexican rainbow haired Medley is gorgeous, Peru Windy is in the Gusty pose, just to name a few ;) There are many rabbit holes to go down!

The localization of colors and poses is fascinating. Argentina Windy definitely looks like the most festive one. Now I've fallen down another googling rabbit hole to see what all these ponies look like.

Pony Corral / Re: Help! Oxiclean baths
« on: September 01, 2018, 10:57:52 AM »

I wouldn't use Oxiclean on every pony that I would get. I made sure that Lemondrop didn't have any glitter or other paint issues like that before giving her a soak. I always give my ponies surface cleanings first. I mostly wanted to experiment with this and see how much it would clean her. But I wouldn't give her one again, just because it might be harsh on ponies. I only used a little amount of Oxiclean. I just like knowing that a pony has been really cleaned and rid of germs.

Post Merge: August 30, 2018, 07:07:31 AM

OxyClean is overkill for 99.9% of ponies.

It happily ruins glitter, iridescence, metallics, most of the neon hair colours (charteruse, red, orange), weak flocking, certain paint colours, magic message symbols, glues, and can further damage nylon hair.  Unless your pony has a serious fungal problem or other biological contaminant that requires sterilization or is already 'bait' quality to begin with, I wouldn't go near OxyClean.  There are plenty of other cleaning products that are safer for you and your ponies.

It also does NOT fix ink, stains, or yellowing.  Safest to start with the easiest and mildest treatments before moving to more aggressive ones.  Even soap and water can damage certain types of ponies; there's a risk with any efforts, but minimizing them will save you a lot of potential grief.

I don't think I would use Oxiclean again on any future ponies, this was more of a 'test' I suppose. Even though Lemondrop came out good and no damage that I could see I might get a different result with another pony and it could turn out damaged.

Thank you everypony for laying out the situations where OxyClean would be useful! I'll definitely be starting out easy when a few G1 sparkle ponies arrive in the mail soon. The bodies are such a unique opacity, I wouldn't want to cloud them up or #ponyfail them in any way during a cleaning.

I'll just be happy to find her at all.

Haha same here Kiwi!

Honestly, hearing about the consistent low-quality conditions of these 35th anniversary ponies really break my heart. May everyone find an unsmudged, unbespoiled anniversary rainbow pony.

SO glad Lemondrop emerged from her bath sparkling clean!

After your experience with Lemondrop, do you feel Oxiclean is an all or nothing soak-it-in kind of approach to cleaning ponies? Or can you lightly surface-clean with Oxiclean without a soak?

I've had a ton of success with Dawn, Magic Eraser, and all-natural shampoos and conditioners. No experience with Oxiclean tho.

Welcome to the Arena! The sets you collect are very nice! Are any of them complete yet? Anyway, I look forward to seeing you around :D

Hi Saff! Thank you for the warm welcome. My TE G1 Year 4 and 5 is almost complete—Fizzy, Bright Eyes, and maaaaybe Quackers will be within reach. But alas, Mimic probably won't happen for me. Totally okay tho because the rest of the girls are still pretty!

My Rainbow girls are nearly there; just looking for the right Sunlight and Starshine.

What are some of your favs to collect?

—mari
The TEs are such nice ponies, even if some of them are problematic (I'm looking at you plasticizer oozing Quackers) I'm happy to have a few :) It would be awesome if you could make a brag if you got any more!

I wish I could have a set of German rainbows. Sternenglanz is my all time favorite

Omigosh I had no idea how pretty a German Starshine is! Thank you for starting me down a whole new rabbit hole of international rainbow ponies.  :frolic:

Hi Princess, welcome to the forum!

Thrifting for ponies sounds thrilling—which ponies have you found that you never expected to find in a thrift store? You've inspired me to take a crack at some thrifting. Looking forward to seeing your favs on the Pony Brag boards.

Happy collecting!
