Pony Corral / A question about price checks
« on: April 07, 2016, 12:06:00 PM »
Sorry I  don't know if this post is verging on a mad rant and I know this in general is a totally subjective thing and obviously depends on a number of factors but for my own sanity I have to ask.

Price checks.....I feel like I get it wrong a lot!  :what:

Mostly I feel I pay too much (does everyone feel that way in general lol), don't get me wrong I know at some point everyone will pay too much for a pony they really want or a rare pony but I hate the thought of paying too much on every pony I buy.

My general thought on this is that this is aggravated by the fact that in the UK obviously ponies are not as plentiful in the first place therefore as a UK buyer most of what I buy is either from the U.S , where pony prices are great however you then have to account for the additional shipping and customs charges which often cancels out the great price or bought from eBay where I feel prices are often inflated AND you have shipping on top.  I recently put my collection in to KLECT and was not impressed with the value it gave compared to the number I have on my spreadsheet for what I have paid, but again I guess this is based on a U.S market where supply and demand is different.

On the flip side I have recently had offers by sellers (arena not eBay)which I have felt are too much or I have made offers which the sellers have said are too low.  Whenever I have requested or looked at archives for price checks they always seem low in comparison to eBay or prices asked by sellers.  From this I have gathered that I must be getting it wrong somewhere.

So I guess my questions are

- To the moderators and people with years of experience in pony pricing what method do you use to price?

- Is there a significant difference between arena prices and eBay prices due to sellers on eBay looking for more profit /taking advantage and arena members playing more fairly?

-Do prices change due to inflation plus the fact the every year every pony becomes older and hence more scarce?

-Do other UK buyers feel that they pay more and just accept that that's just how things are (i.e ponies are more expensive here as they are less available) and if so is there a way you work out the value or your collection vs what you paid (in my head this should be equal if you got it right)

As my collection grows this is concerning me more ( I now have nearly 200 ponies) both in terms of if I ever come to sell them and in terms of insurance.  Am I just overthinking it all?  I would loves everyone's thoughts on this (and how other people work out what to pay or justify what they have paid!  ;)).

Oh and P.S can I get a price check on Rosedust, no wings, faded hair please.

Hi all,

I am toying (ha ha no pun intended  ;))with the idea of buying this play set.

This last price check I can find was from 2012 and says $25 for a minty and complete set, is this still accurate?

Wanted! / My G1 wish list
« on: April 03, 2016, 01:15:28 PM »
Finally I have come up with a wish list.

I am always looking to buy as long as the price is fair (and funds allow ).  I am not too picky when it comes to condition and don’t mind a little bit of a restoration challenge (however I do expect the price to take into account the condition). Hair cuts are ok and if I want a pony badly enough I will sometimes consider complete rehairs, I don’t mind cleaning ponies, I can live with some marks, regrind and cancer.  Just about the only thing that I don't like is missing parts/damage to the pony’s body or a truly baity pony that's beyond restoration help.

I am U.K based so if buying from the U.S I do prefer to buy ponies in bulk to get my monies worth out of shipping and custom charges, again though I may be tempted to buy a single pony if it’s one I desperately want.

Pony Corral / Re: My Complete G1 Collection Pony Room Tour
« on: April 03, 2016, 12:20:16 PM »
Oh I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Thanks for sharing I am sure I will be watching it again. I also found it extremely calming and relaxing (is that a bit strange?).

What a beautiful collection and how lovely to have it complete.  Much as I would love it I can't envisage ever having a complete collection :jealous:  ;)

I began my collection saying I would only collect the adult ponies and not even every set...now I have adults, babies, sea pony babies and a small collection of nirvanas and uk exclusives...it quickly gets out of hand.

I was going to respond with yes she is yellow but when I inspected mine it is a very very light yellow, not white but an off white kind of creamy colour.

Don't know if that helps at all  :)

Off Topic / Re: International living with kids - advice needed!
« on: March 08, 2016, 12:51:21 PM »
I live in Scotland and have a lot of experience working with children with autism.  Scotland is a very beautiful country and in general a very safe place to bring up  children.  However I am very sorry to say that in terms of service provision, education and even a basic knowledge and understanding of people with autism we are way behind (way way behind) the U.S.  Part of my work has often involved teaching teachers and support workers (who are working with people with autism) basic autism awareness.  Services are limited at best and families have to fight very hard to get support, or in fact a diagnosis in the first place.  This is the case for children and those with very high support needs and it gets even more difficult for those that are high functioning and support for adults is extremely limited (in general understanding of the condition is limited). We are getting better...but like I said we are way behind countries such as the U.S or Australia.  Example - Try finding and O.T with an understanding of sensory sensitivities, or in fact in the national health service try finding an O.T. full stop.   Anyway this is a major source of irritation for me and I am continuously faced with evidence on how poor we are at this, it's embarrassing.   Just this morning there was a piece on the news with a couple from England who's 15 year old son had been placed 4 hours away from his family in a secure unit completely inappropriate for his needs purely because there was no other appropriate service for him (i.e his local authority didn't have a clue what to do with him). I could go on all day.

I don't know about Paris or Sweden but honestly if it were me and I was working on the priority of provision/education for my son I would say Australia over England or Scotland.  I think especially coming from the U.S you would be disappointed and frustrated to say the very least. Honestly I am ashamed to say that but also I can't stress this enough.

@ autieluna I hope my terms have not caused any offence we are taught that the PC here is "with autism" and not "autistic" but I am aware that this is also beginning to change especially in the autism community  :lovey:

The tiny light pink comb looks like ones that I have that came with dolly mix ponies, I think different ponies came with different combs that's perhaps what the other small combs are

Customs or brag...not sure but

I really don't like the bbe babies...they scare me with their horrible evil eyes   Anyway I saw the customs pkw does with the twinkle eyes and thought they were adorable so I bought a couple from her and then asked her to complete the rest of my set.   They have been long awaited with one thing or another but finally here they are altogether.

I am so pleased with them, imo hasbro should have just made TE babies instead.

Oh and some replacement wings for my summer wings made by pkw also

Bright eyes your repunzal is gorgeous I can't believe you got her in a lot, congrats.  I also love how your ponies and play sets are still played with by your daughter.

I LOVE the closet too, it's beautiful!! My husband has his office which is termed his "man cave" but I really think I should be pushing harder for a pony cave like that closet.

Oh and notice how everyone starts or finishes with I need more space, more shelves, another room....a new house!!!  ;)

All these ponies...so pretty!!

P.s I just noticed the using egg carton for sea ponies....genius!!

WOW! You have an awesome display! And some of them ponies I would never be able to afford! :(

Was that for me?   I am curious cos I think my collection is pretty standard, and most of my ponies have been bought cheaply in poor condition and restored.
