Pony Corral / Re: Safe to wash Loop-de-la?

You could always take a moist towelette or use a damp cloth with soap on it.

That's true...what about the hair? Does she have any wires near her head?

Pony Corral / Safe to wash Loop-de-la?
« on: January 29, 2017, 05:16:09 PM »
Yesterday, I got a G3 Loop-de-la in a lot from a local seller! Aside from her tutu needing new elastic, she's in decent shape!
Unfortunately, she didn't come with her stand/base/spinny doo-dad, so I'm not sure if she still lights up. If she does, I don't want to short out any wires or "guts" that are in her in case I decide to sell her someday.

I'd love to get her a new base, but I haven't had any luck finding one with the spinning, light-up part still attached (in other words, the useful part is missing). Does anyone have any experience working with her? Is there a way I can hook up a potato clock to the metal part on her foot to test her light-up action? :P

I have two versions of her--one with roller skates and one with the chef hat! They look awfully cute on other ponies, but I don't display her as much myself. Sometimes i'll put her out with pinkie pie and twirly treats. I'd love to see her a bit chubbier like she is on the show for variety's sake, but she's still cute.

My dad doesn't really notice my hobbies, but he seems indifferent to my pony collecting--he hasn't said anything about it yet, at least. :P

My sister is somewhat supportive and owns about 5 G4s herself, including a custom she made. :)  Her childhood SHS is in my room indefinitely until I can figure out how to tame her hair (she might be on my shelf for a while :P) She's bought me ponies in the past before, for birthdays, christmas, or just because. It's very sweet!

And my mom thinks they're cute, but that I collect them a liiiittle too fast. :P Sometimes I show her my finds and she'll tell me whether she likes them, or she'll point them out in stores. In the past, she's told me that there's nothing wrong with collecting ponies--and that I don't have to tell anyone that I do.

I'm sure she meant it in the best way, but even so, I'm too embarrassed to tell most people about my collection, save for my closest friends and you folks on the arena!

I do like that they have more poses...ive considered getting a lyra and bodyswapping her with my single lyra to see how it looks :P

Ohh!! I wonder how it would look!

Sadly the base of the neck of the head is a little wider than the new molds.. However I haven't tested out with a pony of an even older line of G4 (like first wave)

Hm, I see what you mean...I did pick up lyra today, but I think even if she looks a little wide from the front, she's quite cute when displayed with her head in profile! Also, how on earth did you get that head off? I haven't tried boiling water yet, but i'm curious if these dont come off with just a bit of effort like the original G4s do.

I get a lot of my ponies from thrift stores, so im quite used to them being grubby :P

For the body, I fill up a small bowl/container with dish soap and water and use either a dish brush or a tooth brush to scrub it off, then rinse it off in the sink. I check the results under good lighting, and then keep scrubbing in any areas that are particularly filthy. Magic erasers are good for getting off miscellaneous scuffs and paint marks, or particularly stubborn dirt, but it might take a bit of pressure and patience depending. if there's random paint splotches on the non-painted areas, you can use a bit of acetone/nail polish remover on a q-tip (but rinse it off with water afterwards, just in case) For dirt on painted areas, go slowly and do tiny circles with the magic eraser or a toothbrush. I was even able to get some random splotches off of a symbol that way, and with no noticeable damage!

Hair depends from pony to pony. sometimes i'm unable to tame manes, but most of the time a shampoo and conditioner treatment works just fine. I usually run hair under warm water  (avoiding the base of the tail or the hair plugs) and get it soaking wet. shampoo helps to get out grime, and conditioner makes it less frizzy and more soft. I personally like to comb through the hair while it's lathered up to get out the snags. Then, I part the hair in the general direciton i want it in and run it under hot water again, then cold.  It usually works well for me!

That got a bit lengthy. I hope that this information was helpful to you!

I'd do what I do when I spot something in stores and someone's hovering near something I want---I pretend to be very interested in something i'm not, go "WOW LOOK AT THIS" and then bait and switch them.  Either that or I'd turn into a linebacker :P

wow! a cel? I've never seen one of those for sale! nice finds!

I think spike might clean up a bit if you gently file off the rough parts from the chewed up bits. You could try touching up the missing paint spots with a bit of acrylic if you're the crafty sort!

G2s were out when I was a child, but I never got to own any (other than some mcdonalds toys) :P I love that purple one the most, she's so colorful! congrats on your new ponies! :)

I find myself drawn to your twilight and moondancer! If I wanted to get them shipped together with tracking to the Chicago area (I can give you the exact zip in a PM if needed), how much would it cost?

As far as g1s go, I really like all of the twinkle-eyed ponies and the brush-n-grow series! I only have one from each, though...Although it's unlikely, I'm always on the lookout for them at thrift stores. I found my masquerade that way!

With G4s (which I have many more of), I've been slightly obsessive about collecting the newest pearly-bodied series. Unfortunately, it seems that wave 3 was completely skipped in the united states and those are the last four I need to complete it. Womp womp. :\
