Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Re: Breyerfest 2021 Portrait Model
« on: November 06, 2020, 11:19:22 AM »
I hadn't heard about the controversy, but oh nooooo that poor horse. He looks like he's made of parts from 5 different horses. The model (or any other Breyer model) doesn't even remotely resemble him.

And yeah, it's weird about the celebration horse. I didn't even really know the celebration horse is supposed to be a real horse before this.

Why are there normal animals alongside anthro animals? Also, I wonder if they’re keeping the “account expiring” thing. I might have been interested, but my account long expired :pout:

If I ever see the individual retro ponies, I may buy em and sell my 6-pack. They seem much easier to display MIB.

All 5 are amazing! The monochrome swap is one of my favorites in terms of concept, and the results never fail to deliver.

One more, right?  :)

I use imgbb, never had a problem with it and it’s easy to use from mobile devices/tablets.

Still a few pictures to add (it’s midterm week so that will probably come this weekend) but giving this a bump!

Oh, look at that, another incomplete set :’) what is it with Funko and making all but 1 or 2 of a set of characters? We never did get Applejack or Rarity, and now we’re not getting Bluebell. If they’d made all 6 I’d get em, but as it is I’ll be skipping these unless I cave and start a Snuzzle army like I’ve been resisting temptation over for years.

G2s. I know I’m not the only one who likes them, but there are so few, especially in the US (which makes collecting them a pain).

G4 Hasbro Pop/Design-A-Ponies. I think I’m one of the only people who likes these things. I hope to have a complete collection of these some day, and the fact that I have as many as I do is one of the prides of my collection :lookround:

G4 EqG Minis. I actually do have a complete collection of these guys (aside from the last few Sunset Shimmer variants I need for my Sunset army) and I LOVE them.

Pony Brag Arena / antique mall G1 get!
« on: September 08, 2020, 06:44:34 AM »
Yesterday afternoon I decided, more or less on a whim, to go to an antique mall with my dad. I haven’t done any sort of secondhand shopping since early spring when the outbreak started amping up here, and I wanted to cram in something fun to show for the 3-day weekend. We ended up going to an antique mall that I’d been driving past for years and wanting to visit, but it’s on a side of town I’m not on frequently so whenever I passed it I tended to be on my way to something else. It was good to finally go - it’s enormous!

We arrived about 30 minutes before closing time so we only covered the perimeter (we’re definitely going back much earlier in the day before too long), but immediately after walking in I found a display case full of old toys about 20 feet from the entrance, including a Scrumptious. She was $16 and rather yellowed, with numerous stains and patches of dirt, so I initially put her back, but as I walked the rest of the mall I couldn’t stop thinking about her. She has no flaws aside from being very dirty, her flocking is the thickest and plushest of any So Soft I’ve ever held in my hands (she’s more discolored than the Fifi I found at the flea market and dirtier than the Ribbon I found in a thrift store, but her flocking is easily twice as thick), and I don’t see Scrumptious come up for sale as often as some from her set. In the end my dad bought her for me (thanks dad), and even though she may have been a bit overpriced, I’m very happy with her  ;)

Now to figure out how to clean her flocking without ruining it. I’ll post before and after pictures, hopefully there’ll be a dramatic improvement! Oh, and there were also some G3’s at the mall, but they were overpriced so I left them. Shame, because there was a pretty Beachcomber, but I’m not paying $6 for a common G3.

Pony Corral / Re: Are there any positive aspects to appreciate from g4?

Almost everything. The only downside to me is that, thanks to Hasbro’s cheap business strategy, the toyline didn’t live up to how incredible the show was (but really, what could?). So many characters never made in toy form, so many cool locations that would’ve made awesome playsets ignored or not given justice, so many cool ideas that could have made better gimmicks than what we got (“sparkly spinning skirt”, really?). For being a glorified commercial made to sell toys, FiM didn’t end up having much to do with the toyline. So many missed opportunities.

Off Topic / Re: Karen the cat, and how we almost killed her.
« on: September 05, 2020, 11:51:57 AM »
What a beautiful girl!! I wonder what her story is. I'm glad she made it through all that, sometimes animals put themselves in such danger that it's terrifying (though humans do the same thing). It hurts to not be able to communicate to them the danger they're in, though they're better at keeping themselves alive than we tend to give them credit for.

Unfortunate that your other cat doesn't like her - is Sassy spayed? As a side note, did you see if Karen was microchipped? Also, there are tutorials for shelters for outdoor cats who won't come inside online, maybe you can look into making one of those.

Spied these in Walmart the other week, ended up looking them up online, and now I might have a new collection, oh dear. I don’t have the money or room for the plush, and smart toys make me antsy (also they’re really expensive, also the heat here has a habit of melting anything with internal wiring (RIP my Shine Bright Fluttershy and both my Nintendo DS’s, victims of global warming)), so I’m looking at the minifigs. I haven’t seen the blindbags anywhere, but I’ll definitely be on the lookout - otherwise I’ll just buy the rainbow set of 5 from Walmart.

I know I had some figures when I was a kid. I wonder if any are still floating around here...?

The Dollhouse / Re: Hasbro discontinues controversial Trolls doll
« on: September 02, 2020, 08:21:25 AM »
I’m all for body positivity and the de-stigmatization of “taboo” parts of the body, but I know some people are going to like more anatomically correct dolls for all the wrong reasons. Non-sexual nudity is kind of ruined by a flood of comments talking about how hot and sexy it is, imo, and that’s what I see whenever anything features artistic nudity online, especially if it’s nude females. It’s not just a matter of prudism, sadly - the people prudes use as strawmen do very much exist, and are very vocal. I get not wanting to act like the human body is ~zOmG oBsCeNe ThInK oF tHe ChIlDrEn~ but I think it’s naive to think that everyone is respectful or mature enough to handle such things. (This post isn’t inappropriate, right? I’m trying to be as vague as possible while still getting the point across.)

That happened to me, too - my parents wanted to know what I wanted for Christmas so I sent them a link to an auction, which they didn’t look at until after the auction had ended. eBay did that unforgivable thing where it puts a completely different listing at the top of the screen, and my parents assumed that’s what I meant and bought a very overpriced item that I didn’t actually want. Granted, I like the item I ended up getting, but I feel bad they spent 6 times what it was worth (considering it’s worth $3). I can’t bring myself to tell them.

Speaking of which, I was just browsing eBay and found someone listing some very common, rather baity g1s for $175 per adult and $125 per baby. What is wrong with people?

I want Sunset and the princesses so bad why this. I couldn’t afford any of them in a good year, much less this year. Oh, well.
