I have the Funko vinyl, and a handful of blind bag figurines... He was never released in brushable form, was he? I like him for the sheer novelty of having Doctor Who mingle with my ponies. It’s fun to imagine the wacky adventures he’d create for them, lol.

I know one of my hopes for G5 is that it goes back to how it use to be. Super targeted to girls and less controlled by the fandom. I feel like this is a step in that direction.
Being influenced by the fandom is what made G4 good. I hope this doesn't end my like of the series.
That’s a very divided opinion. For me, G4 started going downhill when every single episode started pandering and giving winks/nods to the adult fans. Finally, we ended up with the infamous Daring Do body pillow scene. Not everything fan-influenced was bad—we saw favorite characters like Nightmare Moon being spotlighted, and we certainly got some cool merch aimed at older viewers—but the shameless pandering became increasingly unbearable to me as the series wore on. I’d rather see it returned to its roots as a show aimed at children, that some adults happen to enjoy for its innocence and magic (and nostalgia, of course).

imagine if we get like a super dramatic she-ra-esque story line with these playskool lookin ponies. actually that'd be amazing i hope they do that
You just described my perfect MLP gen. I like them! Big improvement over G4’s style, IMO. The feathered hooves and gradients are gorgeous. The short muzzles... Well, I was expecting that. It’s in keeping with what’s trendy in kids’ shows ATM. I’d rather have G3-esque heads, but I’m not too bothered. There aren’t any good side-views, so it’s not clear how it’ll actually look in three dimensions. That orange pony reminds me of Sparkleworks, including the symbol!

Ouch, poor Fizzy got the worst color scheme... Seriously, just one solid color? :/ Why did all of the others get contrasting manes and tails, but not her?

I have both fond and not-so-fond memories of G4, so my feelings are mixed... On the one hand, it’s kind of epic to have a new story set in the (distant?) future of a previous gen, but on the other, it makes me scared that G5 will just feel like more of the same. :/ On a positive note, I love that the older pony in the storyboard is using toy ponies to tell the younger one about the M6. It’s almost like a meta nod to the toyline. Ragamuffin: That makes sense. I hope the final product ditches the overall proportions and look of FiM, in favor of something new.

Rearing SHS! There probably would have been balance issues, though. Also, rearing poses for unicorns and pegusi.

Seconding what Starrynights said... I have a large collection of MH, and my dolls have experienced a universal yellowing of white hair and vinyl. I remember quite a few years back, when G1 MH was still on shelves, there was already discussion amongst collectors about the werecat twins’ hair starting to turn. It doesn’t seem to be caused by storage methods, sunlight, temperatures, or any other environmental factors, as my dolls have yellowed evenly no matter where they’ve been kept. In my experience, sunlight may accelerate it, but nothing at all seems to prevent it. Unfortunately, it’s pretty much untreatable. Since synthetic hair isn’t porous like real hair, the color is unlikely to respond to bleaching or peroxide. It’s one of the sad but inevitable truths in collecting that nothing stays new and perfect forever... especially not plastic. If it’s any consolation, there aren’t going to be any other collectors with better Abbeys, unless they’ve been rerooted—they’ll all go yellow in the end.

Weeeeeell... I really dislike the similarity to FiM’s animation and aesthetic. That’s the big thing that worries me. I hope it’s just a placeholder for whatever the finalized style will be... After ten years, it feels stale. Very stale. I don’t mind the inclusion of the M6 as a “Long ago, the mythical heroes of Equestria...” kind of thing, like what they did with Star Swirl and company in later seasons... Hasbro already stated that the movie would serve as a “bridge”, IIRC. If they hang on to Equestria, I hope we’ll see more of the dragons, changelings, and other species that were introduced in the show but largely ignored in the toyline. I can understand Hasbro wanting to hang on to some of the lore that FiM built up, since the show was very successful. What I don't want to see from G5 is any attempt to cater to adults. Not us. Not bronies. Nothing like that. It's a kid's show. If we like it, or watch it, or collect the toys, that's up to us. But I hated how twisted FIM concepts became in G4 because of adult interest, and that ruins it for the market that it's really for.
This. If Hasbro wants to pander to adults, then they should do it by releasing collectibles and toys skewed towards that demographic (like the GoH statues or the nostalgia merch), not by trying to warp the whole franchise into Hot Topic fodder.

Despite all the nightmare fuel of 2020, I thought the toy industry had a surprisingly fruitful and interesting year. Granted, MLP is still caught in its between-generation hush... though I did love the crossover series!
We saw several new doll lines emerging, such as Cave Club and Rainbow High, as well as many new additions to existing lines (O.M.G. Remix, Barbie BMR1959, Na Na Na Surprise). I thought Remix were the strongest wave of O.M.G.s thus far! Having collected them from the beginning, I’m really glad to see that the quality isn’t being allowed to slip!
There was a lot going on in the action figure department, as well. Transformers continues to juggle more concurrent toylines than you can count on both hands, and there have been a lot of “classic style” revivals of franchises like G.I. Joe, MOTU, Thundercats, and even the 90s X-Men cartoon. I was really blown away by some of the TF releases this year, and that’s where the majority of my pocket money went, haha. I’ve also fallen in love with the Funko Pop Retro Toys series. X3
So what new toy releases did you love most in 2020? What ones are you looking forward to seeing in 2021 (besides—hopefully—MLP G5)? I’m eager to see the Barbie Extra dolls in hand, myself. :3

Forgot to add these have new boxes without plastic windows.
I think it's just the Amazon dolls with the hair extensions that have the windowless boxes. From what I have heard wave 1 was like that too. Of course there's no telling if they will end up coming to stores so these might be the only ones.
Ah, that's interesting. We don't get the ones with hair extensions here and they came in regular window boxes. I really want Bashley with hair extension because it really ties together her look
Is Bashley’s hair extension Amazon exclusive, though? Unlike the other basic dolls, I don’t actually see “Amazon Exclusive” or “online exclusive” stamped on the listing... I have to say, I really hope Bashley’s quality is an indicator of things to come! Her dress is so much nicer than anything the previous dolls have had... Please Mattel!—no more paper-thin, unfinished nylon!

Grats! I love her color scheme so much—she’s one of my favorite MLP designs in years. I agree that it totally looks like the eyes are sliding off their faces, but I feel like I'd really want to get her regardless because I remember playing with a lite brite when I was little. Is her hair somewhat transparent? I swear the original looked like the mane resembled the pegs a bit more.
Her mane has a nice semi-transparent look to it. Not glassy transparency, but definitely obvious in person.

Oh wow! I wish they were brushables, but I’m excited to see more G1 characters being acknowledged.

Mushrooms are actually one of the only “healthy” foods I like, lol. Mmm, fungus. Besides meat (I’m a vegetarian), I absolutely will not touch cabbage or asparagus with a ten-foot pole. They smell too icky to even look at. <_< Also, cooked eggs that aren’t cleverly hidden in cookie dough or some such. Again, the smell is... just no. When I was trying to eat more protein, I actually pasteurized and swallowed raw eggs, just to avoid the smell and taste. I gulped them down without even breaking the yolks, for fear of unleashing the ghastly sulfur smell.
