Walmart updated their site to have the Mane Six drawn in the MLPnF style!
Personally, I like these better than the vectors we got for the Retro-styled G4

That's fanart unfortunately, not an official image.

Customs / Re: Never customised before - silver paint and modpodge?
« on: July 31, 2019, 02:30:00 PM »
Any silver acrylic that suits your fancy should be fine, just be sure to use a few thin coats instead of blobbing it on all at once. ;)

Classic yellow-bottle Mod Podge is basically PVA glue, so that's probably not ideal when trying to avoid stickiness, but there are many other formulations these days under the Mod Podge brand which might be better idk. I would personally advise something like Liquitex acrylic varnish that's specifically made for the purpose of sealing. And a non-matte coat might be better if you're going for shiny metallic stars. A mattifying sealant could make them look just grey.

Honestly, I'm just glad they didn't decide to remake Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle, and Cheerilee. (...yet? :yikes:) The thought of Core Seven returning from the grave in response to M6 angst is like some sort of horrible monkey's paw scenario.

I love her hair, even though it's basically untouchable. She's really lovely with her hair straightened too, but I like the Merida-like wildness of her original curls.

She developed into a snake oil salesman/con artist in my herd. ^^; A rather strange personality for such a beautiful pony...

Well, don’t believe the exclusive may be a Flutter set, since Basic Fun seems to have scrapped them as well as the Lemon Drop set

Did they say they were scrapped?

I guess there's chatter on Facebook that someone from Basic Fun said they were cancelled, but I don't use FB so that's like third-hand information for me. :shrug: "She said that he said that they said" doesn't make for a solid news intro in my mind. ^^;

It doesn't have to be a Flutter box set though. Could be anything from a re-packaging of ponies from the existing retro line, to a set with Lemondrop/Sprinkles/Majesty, to the new G3 repros, to ????

up in the air

boooo XD

And something new for Target around October, maybe a for-real-on-purpose exclusive? I'm going to have to start hoarding little boxes again. ;)

What if the exclusive is a big multipack of Flutter Ponies? Stores, including Target, tend to have big multi packs during fall/winter to capitalize on the holiday season.

Oh, that could be it. If it's just a bundle pack of ponies that could be bought singly, then I doubt there will be much demand from non-US collectors.

It's just odd that they look EXACTLY like the G3's I already own. Like they could be leftovers that some Chinese worker found in a closet in the factory, stashed there 15 years ago. Even the Basic Fun G1's have ways to tell them apart from the original G1 releases, don't they? Slightly different colors, etc.?

They aren't quiiiiite exact. Retro Applejack has her mane in two bi-coloured chunks of green and yellow instead of the original's alternating stripes. Retro Rainbow Dash's mane inexplicably goes pink-green-yellow-orange instead of in proper rainbow order. Retro Fluttershy's body color is more warm-toned than the original. I also feel like they fudged a little bit with the RD/AJ pose, but I can't put my finger on what it is... something about the head seems off, like the chin is too high?

They are very, very close to the originals though, right down to all the little details in their eyes and symbols. Which, ironically, was my first clue that they aren't made by Hasbro. XD It would have been nice to take this opportunity to make them with double-sided symbols, but I suppose that's not authentically cheap. Nice to see they aren't plagued with tinsel so far, though. G3 was absolutely lousy with the stuff, and I'll be glad to see it lost to history.

Minor news, but popping this in here so everyone has a chance to see it: https://www.instagram.com/p/B0eFd7KAXiL/

So it would appear that Basic Fun has semi-officially nixed the Lemondrop parlour v.2, and instead they're hoping to offer up "something great" for next year. Hmmmm....

And something new for Target around October, maybe a for-real-on-purpose exclusive? I'm going to have to start hoarding little boxes again. ;)

What the....

I have so many questions!

Are these the upcoming fall Target exclusives Basic Fun teased at Pony Fair? I was really hoping for halloween-themed ponies, given the proposed timeline, but as a G3 fan I'm not unpleasantly surprised. (Still hoping it's not this though. I want some more spoopy ponies! ST AJ is lonely!) I feel like this can't be Hasbro's doing, since these ponies look pretty spot-on and they don't come in an annoying set of six. :P

But why make these at all? Can there really be a strong nostalgia market for G3s? (...Wait, how old am I? :ack:) The current character line-up is much more in tune with the G4-oriented market. I would think that if they were really tapping in to proper G3 nostalgia we'd see characters like Wysteria, Kimono, MINTY... but I guess this is a safe first pass? It'll be interesting to see if they do any more after these four.

God help me, if they come in cute boxes, I'll probably end up buying them. -_-

You'll be able to buy it directly from Hasbro for $22 starting August 12th. That's two bucks more than SDCC retail, but no extra paypal fees so probably about the same price in the end. :bigups:

I'm happy to look for Bow Tie and the second wave rainbows, although I can't guarantee results -- my Targets are pretty picked over at the moment. :lookround:

For the unicorn and pegasus set, you're probably better off buying from Amazon since they haven't been stocked at most Targets for months now.

I have her, and her partner Sunny Salsa. She's a cute pony, but sometimes I wonder who greenlit the idea for a pair SLHs named after condiments. Not that I'm complaining -- it makes a nice change from all the Sparklewishes and Peachberry Blooms of G3. :P

Does she have...like...a rainsuit or something? I recognise her colours but I feel like she should be wearing something...?

Yes, she came with a yellow hat and mackintosh. I remember my husband teased that she ought to be named Tartar Sauce if she was going to go around dressed like the Gorton's Fisherman.
