I've had glasses since the 7th Grade, so it's been more than 30 years!  I never wanted contacts, as the idea creeps me out. And surgery...no way!!!!

I may change my mind, as my current pair are bifocals!

As someone whose had 2 C-sections, help around the house would be my best suggestion.

But, since you don't live near her, then loose fitting clothing with easy nursing access would be my next thought.  You could also send gift cards for diapers and clothing.  Newborns go through a lot of diapers, and if anything like my second child, lots of clothes due to reflux!

I know I'm late to the party, but here goes...

My daughter is a Girl Scout, but she is older than what you're looking for.  She is a Girl Scout Senior (9th and 10th grades, 14-16 years old) and a Juliette (not part of a troop).  If your still looking, PM me the info, and I can forward it to our Service Unit Manager.  I can't guarantee any interest, but can try.

Off Topic / Re: What were the 80s like?
« on: June 11, 2016, 02:02:31 PM »
I'm show my age here, but I was born in the early 1970s.  Most of what the 80s were like has already been mentioned.  Obviously, we all had different experiences based on when we were born, and where we lived.

I grew up in Miami, Florida.

The first Major event was the Mairel Boatlifts:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariel_boatlift

This caused a major change in our lives with the constant influx of immigrants.  Some good, and some not so good.

Then came the McDuffie Riots:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980_Miami_riots

I remember my parents freaking out, and school being cancelled.

Living in Florida, there were always threats of Hurricanes and Tropical Storms:
In 1979, Hurricane David was forecasted to hit.  Tape on the windows, bathtub filled with water, fence cut to park car in back of house...then it passed by.  Soon after came Hurricane Frederic, again, nothing serious happened.  While in High School, we were dismissed early due to the threat of a Tropical Storm (late 1980s). Nothing serious came of that either.  Big surprise when Hurricane Andrew hit in 1992!

I do remember the made for TV movie called, "Adam" that really started scaring parents about letting kids roam.  That movie, started the missing kids on milk cartons trend and also a movement for giving kids more rights and keeping them safer.  But maybe they've gone too far... I never see kids running around the neighborhood now.

Try being a child living about 20 miles from where the kidnapping occurred! What were carefree summer days spent outdoors became constant nagging by parents of where were going, when you were coming back, and who you were with.  Now as a adult with children of my own, I understand, but back then, I didn't.

Our first computer was DOS based, and could do simple functions.  If you wanted to play a game, you had to type in lines and lines of code.  There was a castle game that we loved to play, and there were over 2000 lines of code.  Also, we didn't have the ability to save it, so it seemed we (mostly Mom) were always typing in the code.  Good luck if you made a typo.  More time was spent typing the code then actually playing the game!  We didn't have a computer that could connect to the internet until 1991! Even then, it had a 14.4 modem!

Fun (and some not so fun) memories!

Pony Corral / Re: what are your collecting idiosyncrasies?
« on: June 11, 2016, 12:56:46 PM »
I collect ponies with hair and accessory color variations. Although I've had to draw the line at the big playsets (not enough space, and too expensive).  For those, photos have to do.

I'll use G4's as an example, but this occurred with G3's as well:

They have since been opened.  I don't have the space to display them all, let alone all in box!

Let's see what's in photobucket.  These photos are several years old, and are more group shots than individual armies.  The G1's are more variants than multiples of the same pony, while the G3 are variants, re-releases, and releases with accessory color variations.

Pony Corral / Re: anyone know anything about these g4 ornaments?
« on: June 11, 2016, 12:05:35 PM »
Noooo!!!!!  Not more ornaments to try and track down!!!

I haven't seen either of them before.  I have several ball ornaments, but none of them are the one pictured.  Are there any markings on them?  A copyright date?

Ornaments??? Did someone say ornaments????

Thankfully I saw this while all 6 were still available.  Now let's keep our fingers crossed that they actually get shipped out.

Now to think hard about ordering the snowbabies.  The price is still a little high for my liking.

My daughter (and I) found the 10" Sunset Shimmer and Scootaloo last year in Chicago (well, Schaumburg) during the MLP Fair.

If anyone is looking for the 12" versions of Sunset Shimmer and Muffins, they are in Target stores now (and least in Indianapolis).  I spotted them last week, and thought Muffins looked different.  Went back the next day, and she was gone.  Several days and three stores later, both Muffins and Sunset Shimmer came home with us.  We also saw 12" Rarity, and a 10" or 12" Scootaloo (not sure which, haven't seen her again).

The 18" Princess Luna was spotted in stores and on-line at TRU near Christmas.  I didn't order her, thinking I'd find her in stores.  I never did, then when I went to order her, of course, she was sold-out!  After checking on and off since, she was finally in-stock at the end of February (and on sale!).  Not sure if she is still available.

As for the 5" versions, there were still some at Meijer's last time I checked.  Off hand, I'm not sure who, or if they are still there.  Once we find what we are looking for, we stop paying attention.

I'll sort through my collection, and see who all I have, but give me a few days.

I know there was a thread about these a while back, but the search feature has failed me (or I it, not sure which).

Off Topic / Re: wah Its girl scout cookie season -i'm being silly-
« on: February 16, 2016, 09:03:48 PM »
My daughter is a Girl Scout!

There are 2 different bakers, and different cookies are sold in different areas of the country.

I can't speak for other councils, but GSCI (Girl Scouts of Central Indiana) offer the following:
Savannah Smiles, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, Rah-Rah Raisins, Thin Mints (vegan), and Toffee-Tastic (gluten-free)

The Toffee-Tastic is "rich, buttery cookies with sweet crunchy toffee bits".

The empty box I have from last years sales lists the ingredients as:
Rice Flour, Tapioca Starch, Sugar, Butter (Cream, Salt), Palm Oil, Brown Rice Flour, Butter Toffee Bits (Sugar, Butter [Cream, Salt], Corn Syrup, Soy, Lecithin, Salt), Invert Sugar, Contains 2% or less of Salt, Soy, Lecithin, Xanthan Gum, Baking Soda.
Contains Milk and Soy ingredients.

The cost of this cookie is $5 a box, as opposed to $4 for the rest of the flavors.

Also, for those that want to help out the Girl Scouts, but do not want or need cookies, there is Operation Cookie Drop (again, GSCI, not sure of other councils).  Although the cookies are $4 (and $5) a box, any amount is appreciated.  The money donated translates into boxes of cookies to be sent to our Troops overseas.

On the week-ends, you can usually find Cookie Booths in Grocery Stores, Hardware Stores, Wal-Mart, and other locations.  The following link is a cookie booth locator for Little Brownie Bakers:
http://cookielocator.littlebrownie.com/

As for the availability of the Toffee-Tastic cookies, I'm not sure if there are any left in the Cookie Cupboard.  Last year they sold out very quickly.  As of 2 weeks ago, our Juliette co-ordinator had 6 boxes left.

FYI: A Juliette is an individual Girl Scout.  Although not part of a Troop, she can participate in any activity troops can.

Pony Corral / Re: How do you ''display'' your ponies? ♥
« on: February 16, 2016, 06:16:12 PM »
Mine are displayed (and more waiting to be displayed) in a variety of ways.  The generations are separated.

G1's  are sort-of displayed by year.  However, I have placed matching adults and babies together, the same with families .  Also, all males, and babies are together.  If I have a non-US version, it is next to the pony.

G3's are grouped by species.  Later, when the line changed to Core 7, I displayed all versions of each pony together.

G4's are displayed as they were released, until I ran out of room.  The last couple of years worth of releases are waiting until I find more space (although where I'm going to find it, I still haven't figured out).
**oops, no photos on-line**

As for G2's, I have a few on display, but most are in boxes.

Looks like I'm behind in taking collection pictures.  Add it to the list of things to do...

I might be interested in a few.  I have a decent-sized collection, and already have quite a few variants.  That being said, I know there are some I am missing.

Pony Corral / Re: G3 Rainbow Dash Jumbo Plush Information Requested...
« on: January 09, 2016, 07:30:42 PM »
For some reason, that photo looks familiar !

To answer your question, to the best of my knowledge, she was a UK exclusive.  Checking through my records (ebay), I have 2 entries in 2009, one in March, the other in June, labeled "Plush Rainbow Dash" (real descriptive, isn't it), both from the UK.

Give me a day or two to dig her out, and get additional information off her tags.  And I do mean dig, as she is buried on the shelf behind this pile (she can barely be seen behind Twilight Sparkle):

As for the patchwork Rainbow Dash, she had an extremely limited US release.  I heard that she was found in some TRU's.  I think she was found mostly in Mexico and The Philippines. Importing her from either country would have cost more than $50  , so I waited.  I'm still waiting :lookround:!

To answer another question, yes, the patchwork plushies are from Hasbro.  There are 3 of them, Pinkie Pie, Cheerilee, and Rainbow Dash.
