Arts & Crafts Corral / Re: Where to find PASTEL ORANGE FAKE FUR?
« on: October 25, 2018, 05:27:03 PM »
I'd suggest dyeing your own as well.  Finding good quality plush fur is like pulling teeth if you want any of the 'unnatural' colours and don't want to order a whole bolt+.

Off Topic / Re: Pony Grave Robbing? Need Advice / Perspective Please!

I wouldn't be concerned.
Graves are for those left behind, not the departed. Dead people are dead.  They don't care anymore. TBH I'd probably take the pony home and clean it up, because it's just going to rot away left out in the open.  Most toys aren't meant to survive outside in the elements.

Pony Corral / Re: Can you put Princess Ponies in Peroxide?
« on: October 24, 2018, 09:48:29 PM »
I wouldn't try it on anything but the baitiest of baits.  Princess pony tinsel and metallic paint are notorious for not liking a lot of the harsher chemicals. Sunfading is your friend for treating Princess Tiffany, if you have any sun available in your corner of the world.

The only time I throw away vintage things are when it's truly unusable (rusty washers are a good example of this), or a health hazard.  Otherwise it gets donated at the minimum.

red liquorice isn't liquorice at all; there's no anise in it.  Just artificial strawberry flavour.

I've loved every kind of salted liquorice I've ever tried, some are better than others, and some are milder than others.  There's quite the range, much more than you'd expect.  The little dubbel zout black diamonds are really good (to me).

Pony Corral / Re: Did anyone ever find the Gold Loyal Subjects Pony?

They were just too expensive to be a blind buy product.
I refused to get any of them because of the distribution method.  LS could have at least offered a collector's set of all of them at a premium price or something.  I hate random toys where you can get doubles, it's such a waste of money.

Symbols on both sides.
Something that looks like a pony.
And whatever would make the rabid, toxic Brony faction* stay the hell away from G5.

*Requisite "not all Bronies, not even the majority or close to it", are being referenced here.  Just the ones that make SafeSearch a necessity for a children's toy. :throw:

Pony Corral / Re: Who was the first pony you bought as an adult?
« on: October 08, 2018, 09:17:23 PM »
Really depends on what time frame you identify as 'adult'.
I collected most of my G1's from early teens all the way through well into adulthood, so it's pretty tough to say.

I just mean as in...not a kid, when I guess it would no longer be acceptable for you to buy a children’s toy! I was 13 when I hit up eBay for the first time, so not an adult either but it was the first time I was consciously looking for vintage MLP, not just being bought them as a child.

That doesn't really help... I mean I was getting ponies throughout my childhood, teenagehood, and adulthood, and there's overlap between those being bought for me and those I sought out myself.  It's never really stopped, nor was it ever deemed unacceptable for me to like toys at any point. I guess first second hand ponies I bought personally and remember, does that count?  That was probably Baby Blossom and Firefly.  Baby Milky Way (25¢) and the Sweet Celebrations family (3$) were also up there in the early second-hand finds.

Yeah, we just left them out on the table.  They turned into rocks. Low humidity I guess?
Chestnuts spoil fast because of their high water content presumably, so taking out the water makes them much more shelf-stable.

Not much personal experience, but I'm fairly sure they can be dried and used for flour?  We collected a handful, peeled them and left them on the kitchen counter, and they're now hard as a rock.  IIRC one got a mushy spot and got tossed, but the rest seem fine.  Using an oven to speed drying probably would have been smarter, but it was more of a curiosity thing.

Chestnuts don't have any gluten, so you'd have to add that or use them for recipes that don't require it.

My 'will not eat' candy list includes:

Candy bracelets/necklaces
Candy hearts / rockets (the ones that taste like chalk. ew.)
Cinnamon Hearts
Candy Corn
Tootsie Rolls

Give me all your salted and/or black liquorice!  Admittedly, an acquired taste, but at least it has flavour versus the above.  Some of the poll options I've never had, like parma violets.  Must be a regional thing.

Customs / Re: How many customs have you made?
« on: October 05, 2018, 03:32:29 AM »
Somewhere around the 30-ish mark.
I haven't really kept track, but it's between 20 and 40.  All G1's, all many, many years ago.  I think I have a photo kicking around of some of the babies.  Parasol at the back there was my very first.

Trailer was good, I'm looking forward to checking out the series.
Those toys though... there's something *very* off about the proportions (no, not She-Ra's chest!), maybe it's the head to body ratio?  Catra and She-Ra don't look like they're from the same line to me.  The top of She-Ra's head is also weird looking being all flat and helmet-like.  No elbow or knee articulation makes for a mediocre action figure. Overall, 'meh'.

Pony Corral / Re: Mystery G4 Pony

Wouldn't those be called misprints or errors?
No, because they were not made by accident.  A true error or misprint isn't intentional, and all the TaoBao ponies were made for direct-to-collectors sale.  The Chinese factories realized they could make lots of money by doing this, so they did.
