I grew up with g4 as a kid. One time I went to the library and decided to look for my little pony in the DVD section because for some reason I thought they might have different episodes than on Netflix. This was way before I understood what a reboot was. They did have my little pony, but it was the g1 movie and I ended up checking that out. When I watched it I was like "wait a minute what the heck is this". I didn't understand why it had the same name as the my little pony I knew but it had completely different characters. It didn't scare me or anything but it was very confusing. Eventually I got older and the memory faded I was convinced that the smooze and the other bizarre occurrences I saw in that movie were just some fever dream I made up in my head.
I find this pretty funny looking back on it and was wondering if anyone else experienced something similar.

What ticks me off about the whole "core character" concept isn't the idea itself, it's the fact that Hasbro think having a set of main characters means you can ONLY make toys of THEM and no one else! Look at other toylines that do this, most of them handle it way better. Like, Monster High has always had the core characters like Frankie, Draculaura, Clawdeen, etc but they're not all in EVERY line. There'd usually be a good mix of characters. Or like, Jakks Pacific's Sonic the Hedgehog line, they're doing really well at keeping the major characters on the shelves while also releasing at least one new character in each wave.
And then there's Hasbro who are all "Here's Sunny Starscout with a new hat!". x___x
And it's not like hasbro is incapable of doing this in g3 they released tons of characters and there was still room for pinkie minty rarity and the other major characters

if we ignore the fact we are splitting a pony open here I actually like this more than the g5 castle. it feels more like a space the ponies are existing in and not just a fancy display shelf. that price tag is pretty scary though.
