« on: June 10, 2013, 12:04:49 PM »
I came across this website today that has Disney collector dolls and was wondering if anyone had any of them.
If anyone does, I'd love to see pictures.  :)

Here is the Disney doll page:

That new Ariel Holiday doll is a must have! Now I am going to have to start watching the store shelves.

As far as a "grail" doll, for me it would be the Tonner Ariel doll they made a while back. They are out of my price budget though. All the Tonner dolls are so pretty.

Here is an image of her from the website:

Were those released in stores? Granted been a while since I have been in a Toys R us, but I know I have never seen them at places like Target or Wal-Mart.

LuvlyMelody you said the other day you wanted to see Mulan dolls. I stumbled across this picture on Flickr while looking for something else. It is a collection of 11 different Mulan dolls.

The Dollhouse / Re: Jasmine dolls (help a Disney n00b out, plz)

Zapper wrote  "But, I will never understand why the best characters have only one mesely Barbie version? Jane, Meg, Princess Kida. Apparently you're not allowed to join the Disney Princess ranks if you're a princess whose movie didn't make much money ;)"

I think that it all comes down to who is the main character in the film. Meg, Jane and Kida are not the main characters of their respective films. The main characters of those films are male, so toys were boy based as the target market even though they tossed in a few dolls for the girls. If you think about it, with the exception of Jasmine, all the other "princesses" (Snow, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Pocahontas, Mulan, Rapunzel, Tiana and now Merida) are the main character of their respective films.

I TOTALLY agree with Zapper though on the versions. I think it's also a change in time period. The amount of time that toys are marketable now days is so short compared to the 80's and 90's. Dolls and series used to hang around for years before a new one would come out and now the turn over rate is so fast. Since Aladdin was released back in 1992, the products were available for a much longer period and included more female based toys. Disney and other companies are trying to capture "the boy market" today because the girl market for them is stable. If Aladdin was released today instead of years ago, who knows if we would have gotten as many Jasmine dolls now as were made back then.

In regards to articulation and affordability, basically it comes down to the dolls from the Disney Store or also the Disney Parks. Recently (in the last year or so) it seems as though the park dolls were given the same joint treatment as the Disney Store dolls, so articulation in the upper body, and the bendable legs. You could always find an articulated Jasmine that you like, and then acquire the outfit from another doll to make your own Jasmine.

You have a nice collection of the smaller dolls Claramel. I have the Musical Ariel and also the Dancing Ariel & Eric set. They are a cute doll line. It's nice to see everyone's dolls. :)

In my local paper today there was an article from the New York Times. Just linking it here for anyone who wanted to read it. This is the New York Times article:

I have a LOT of Disney Dolls. Most of my collection is of Ariel since I am a HUGE Little Mermaid fan. This picture shows most of the dolls that I have, but not all.

Well, the first thing to decide is probably if you want the collector dolls, or are just wanting any dolls. There are a variety of collector dolls, but limited mainly to Ariel and Ursula.

If you were wanting to collect a series of characters, Tyco made Ariel, Eric, and her sister Arista. They also made a couple other doll friends that were from the TV series, but not the movie. Mattel has made Ariel, Eric, Arista, and Attina as well as an Ursula (collector doll). A number of years ago, the Disney Store actually sold Ariel and all of her sisters as dolls but they were very awkward in proportions and appearance and were more like hand held toys than true dolls. The Disney Store itself has released Ariel, Eric, Triton and Ursula in a regular doll design. Melody (Ariel's daughter) was released as a Toys R Us Exclusive and was made by Jakks Pacific. There has been more recent "sister" dolls by Disney in a miniature doll (think for a playset), but they honestly don't have any character design, just different color hair and tail, and not even styled as hey should.

If you were to collect Ariel herself, it would be a good thing to decide on what depiction of Ariel you are looking for. The Tyco dolls, which is the original company that had the license, depict her as very young. The Mattel dolls that came later on in the 90's depict her a little more mature. The Disney made ones are more mature as well when compared to the Tyco. I would also consider what form of Ariel you are interested in, as a mermaid, a human or both.

Yes, my husband knows what I have spent or do spend on MLP. He has no room to talk though because Transformers can cost as much as or a lot more than ponies depending on the toy. I also agree with those above, we each have our own things that make us happy that the other may think is a waste of money, so it all becomes even.

The Dollhouse / Re: Weird marks on my Barbie

The thing that I find interesting is why some do have it and some don't for the same doll, or even in the same years. You would think that either ALL of those doll lines would and everybody would have a diseased doll, or ALL that year would be effected. For me, the breakdown of the diseased doll years in my childhood Barbie dolls is from 1985-1988:

1985 -Dream Glow Barbie

1986- Jewel Secrets Barbie
1986 - Fun Time Barbie (Does NOT have the disease, yet same year)

1987 - Sensations Barbie
1987 - California Dream Ken

1988 - Homecoming Queen Skipper
1988 - Feeling Fun Barbie
1988 - Fun to Dress
1988 - Teen Looks Cheerleader Jazzie (Does NOT have the disease, yet same year)

Funny how a few "missed" getting it. I am of course 100% okay that a few didn't, but still odd to me. My 1989 dolls and up seem okay as far as I know.

Wait, wait.....REALLY? Old Lisa Frank stuff from like the 90's is worth something? Okay, I seriously need to dig out my boxes of stuff (which I hopefully have). I used to have stickers galore, folder, stationary, stamps, etc etc.

How can you tell what years the items were? Or what about the holiday themed ones?
