Pony Corral / Re: Rank the Generations
« on: July 13, 2022, 05:22:55 PM »
I am going to rank based on styles and the toys, rather than shows and other media associated with them.

G1 - I just have a massive soft spot for G1, many of the toys are lovely, I love the variety, the subtle blush, just about everything!

G3 - Nice quality, feels relatively similar to G1 with a ton of variety here, too. I also like the magnets that some G3s have and many of the gimmicks. I just prefer G1s style.

G2 - Gorgeous style, perhaps tying with G1 as my favourite style, the eye gem is a really nice touch and their bodies are very nice. I also like visible feathering and it's visible here, so that's a big plus! However, there's an unfortunate lack of variety in pony types and symbols, I feel.  Reused symbols (albeit, usually on ponies from the same sets) and only unicorns and earth ponies. This generation kind of has "alicorns", but the wings are detachable.

G5 - Somewhat of a hybrid of G4 and G2 in style, I suppose. Again with visible feathering on all ponies, which is nice, and a generally more G2-esque body. I am not a huge fan of their heads compared to the rest of their body, though, but I don't dislike it really, either. So far, I've not been a fan of the fully moulded and half brushable ponies, personally. The big brushables are excellent, though! I'd prefer it if the "standard" small brushables had spread wings, or at least the wings were a little thicker, personally. The folded wings look a little odd to me. Additionally, so far, we are seeing a whole lot of the main cast and very little outside of them.

G4 - I feel that G4 deviated a little too far from the "horsey" look for me to particularly care for the art style and the "main" toys are rather lacking in poses and variety in characters compared to generations prior. I don't care for Equestria Girls, I find the dolls look odd and I guess I am just not a fan of the concept of My Little Pony characters being turned into highschool students. I absolutely adore the Guardians of Harmony toys, however.

G4 reboot - Mostly fine, doesn't differ all that much from the earlier G4 style, but their heads are notably larger. Most noticably to me being the small alicorns. It just looks...odd. I will group the reboot Equestria Girls here, too. I actually prefer these, but I still don't care of them much.

G3.5 - Not a fan of the style. Similarly to G4, it doesn't feel horsey enough to me and overall, it's just not my cup of tea. The Newborn Cuties even less so. However, I really like the way that the mane is rooted on some.

G4.5 - Same as g3.5, but I dislike the style more and nothing interesting going on with the mane rooting.

Pony Corral / Re: Dumb things you did to your ponies as a kid

As a child, I'd doodle all over my ponies and cut their manes and tails. I am almost certain that most of my ponies back then were fakies, so most victims of my "makeovers" were probably those.

I also sacrificed my first and only G1, Skydancer, when I was experimenting with customization as a preteen and early teenager. I definitely have regrets. Does that count?

Excellent work, I love your artwork! You did such a good job imitating the G3 style. Although you say that you got lazy with it, I especially love the mane, though it is all lovely.

Pony Corral / Re: Pony Themes/Symbols you'd like to see!

I'd definitely like some coffee or tea ponies! I'd also like to see more chocolate themed ponies (preferably with a chocolatey colour scheme, yum!), more animal themed symbols and maybe some more comical themes!

« on: July 06, 2022, 11:07:35 AM »
Hello! I needle felt, it's a ton of fun. I am working on a few projects, and unfortunately have finished few (I have a bit of a habit of starting new projects without finishing the old, it seems).

I have recently been working on two projects: a teddy bear and a cat face that I intend to turn into a magnet.

For the teddy bear, I just need to work on the arms and legs and get it some glass or plastic eyes. I did try to make eyes for it out of wool roving, but I didn't much like the result and I decided that it would be fun to instead try using plastic or glass eyes rather than redoing it.

For the cat, I have finished the general head shape, nose, one of the eyes and I am part way done with the fluff. It still needs another eye, ears and a muzzle. Perhaps I should've left the fluff until after I had gotten the rest done, oops!

That's stunning! A big "well done" to the artist.

Hi! Welcome to the Arena!

I’m from the U.K. too - have you heard of Ponycon this October?

Thank you, everybody!

My apologies for the delayed response. I have heard of Ponycon, and I do hope to attend it this year. Hopefully I will be able to.

Pony Corral / Re: To be in a box or not to be in a box...?
« on: July 03, 2022, 11:38:06 AM »
Personally, unless the box is particularly interesting in some way or it's an exclusive (which happen to often be the ones with the most unusual boxes, too, come to think of it), I prefer them out of box - it saves space and if I chose to display them, they look nice when they're standing next to each other. I also just enjoy handling them and interacting with their manes (I find brushing their manes quite relaxing and feeling a smooth mane is nice) which unfortunately isn't possible in box.

However, if a pony is still boxed when I purchase them, and the pony is retired, then I'd keep them in box for the reasons mentioned above, though I'd generally opt for one without a box.

So, I am on Team Out-Of-Box!

Pony Corral / Re: Will you ever be done with MLP collecting?
« on: July 01, 2022, 09:33:58 PM »
Probably not due to the sheer amount of ponies available. Even if My Little Ponies stopped being produced altogether, I'd have so much to collect still, not to mention that some ponies are very expensive and I'm only willing to spend so much on a single pony. I guess I'd just have to hope to come across them cheap.

Personal:

How old are you? 22 as of writing this.

Where do you live? State, Country? England

Do you work or attend school? Profession or major? I am currently unemployed and not in education

Who are the important people in your life? My mother, sister, her son, and my internet friends!

Ponies:

How long have you been collecting? Since childhood.

Which generations of ponies do you collect? G1, G2, G3 or G4? All generations, however, the majority of my collection is G3 at this time. I've had so much luck finding G3 ponies when searching in real-life, far fewer from earlier generations. I hope to rectify this as I purchase more from others online.

What made you want to collect ponies? I've collected since childhood. It's hard to say what exactly made me like them back then, but now, I guess I am just fond of mythology and fantasy creatures, so unicorns, pegasi, and the rest of the pony types are absolutely my cup of tea. Additionally, I am a fan of many of the designs, finding them aesthetically pleasing. I honestly just really enjoy collecting in general and My Little Ponies are perfect for collecting.

Tell us about your collection! I guess I covered this a little earlier, aha! Oops. Whilst I intend to collect all generations equally, I mostly have G3 at this time, I am completely lacking in G4.5 and G1 in good condition (I do technically own a G1 - Skydancer, however, she is missing most of her factory paint and is overall in very poor condition). I do not really know what to say as I cannot think of any notable ponies from the top of my head, so I'll leave it here.
