Customs / Re: Who is going to the Fair and what would you like to see?
« on: February 20, 2012, 07:52:20 AM »
I will be there, and I will have customs for sale and for the contests
I don't expect to sell any LOL since I rarely do Hasbro replicas and my 1 hasbro-based was the only one that sold last year *sigh*

I do not do customs at my workspace for several reasons, but if people want me to join Pop in demonstrating something it might be something we can arrange.
If I can find time to actually use my new airbrush between now and then, I"d be interested in tips on that, but it's probably too difficult to arrange that.

I'm getting 3 tables, and half of one is already rented out to a friend of mine for her customs (her first Fair too!), so no room here.

Customs / butterfly wedding commission (puzzle and jedi)
« on: February 19, 2012, 11:27:05 AM »
These custom My Little Ponies were lovingly crafted as a commission for Puzzlemint's wedding on December 28, 2011. They were designed using her theme (butterflies) and colors (dark blue and white), and were used as cake-toppers.

Their symbols and eyes have been hand painted and sealed.

Puzzle's hair has been partially styled and is held in place with pins. Their butterfly accessories are made of Apoxie Sculpt, hand painted, sealed, and mounted on a pin.

hair is Blizzard and Forget-me-not from dollyhair.com

all of the above LOL
I collect certain ponies (like confetti), poses (like gusty's) breed (like boys and happy tails), countries, color (if I see a strange combo), etc

I don't use brown a lot, but I like how this one turned out. I used some orange and yellow tones for shades/highlights

I agree with that "disappointed" factor that's been mentioned. I've been a bit "Swapped out" the past 2 years and have only tried to do the swaps that I REALLY REALLY wanted...and had problems twice (my only swap problems) - thankfully, I would say those happened on ones that were not at the top of my FAV swaps, but still... I also went through a period a few years ago where I was doing so many swaps I had people tell me that instead of commissioning me they would wait and see if they got me in a swap, and I've been trying to avoid that ever since. I seem to have a *very* hard time selling my customs/commissions within the community, which doesnt' help how I feel. I really enjoy swaps (personal and organized), but I have to be picky so as not to burn myself.

Currenly, I feel very behind in my own customs, the customs I want to have done for the Fair, and commisions/personal trades (thankfully just finished the commish and one of 2 trades) so I can't meet some of the *short* deadlines that some swaps have (yes 2 months is short when you're planning to sculpt)

recently the ones that have peaked my interest seemed to have a total lack of interest from those I'm used to seeing in the swaps I do - that plays a part in my decision too.

personally I feel that some of us are just in a "tired" phase and need a small break from swaps, hoping to gear up for more after the Fair.

I'll be there, and I could definitely bring an assortment of Nirvanas (I have ponies from almost every country - no India, S.Africa, Venezuela)
I also have varients of happy tails and petites, as well as some incredibly AWESOME petite protos (petite size) and 2 original wax sculptres (bigger)

but it's been a while since I considered myself a nirvana expert. I could brush up on some stuff between now and then, but I would either need to cover a little bit of everything or narrow it down significantly.....my car will be VERY full of the ponies I'll have for sale and my customs, so I would have to pick nirvanas for display strategically. and, honestly, I'm a little worried about getting asked a bunch of questions I just wont know the answer to. And I should point out, I'm probably weakest in Italy, greece, and France info, but pretty strong in argie and spain (though I *still* need to get my hands on teh spanish dads)

I could even talk about "types" like TE/non TE variants of TEs, TAFs, Boys
or the ones I collect specifically (bowtie, aj, starshine, confetti, lemondrop)

thoughts?

ps - I also have a lot of info on g1 purses/bags from around the world and a large collection of that too

Customs / Re: G2 eyes; to repaint or not...
« on: February 16, 2012, 02:45:33 PM »
well...I repaint my G2 eyes in the style of G2 so far (have done 4 or 5 G2 customs)
I do want to try one where I fill in the gem hole with apoxie sculpt and paint a new style, but I hanen't yet. I would say try it out if it's a custom. If it's a nice G2 (not bait) I wouldn't do it...but if it's a common one you can't do whatever you like (I would just make sure it works the way you want it to on a bait FIRST!) ;)

wow! these look FANTASTIC!
all I've had time to do is remove her old really nappy hair and give her a new tail hole

i'm feeling intimidated as I wasn't planning anything quite as grand as these....

I've never had any issue with personal one-on-one swaps (which has included swapping with people of many skill levels)

however, I've had some issues with organized swaps that included being placed in a lower skill bracket (so I received a custom at a lower skill level than what I made - and only found out from talking with the swap organizer afterward that she placed me in that lower bracket...this made me very cautious about entering *any* swaps for a while b/c despite it being a very nice custom for that level and obviously made with love, I felt a bit jipped after putting in *massive* amounts of details and sculpting in mine) and having a partner not follow or not understand my preferences (receiving a high quality custom that really bothered me and was something I did not want in my herd, so I quietly gifted it to another collector after talking with the swap organizer, which left me without a custom from that swap but I was happier to have it rehomed).

So, from my experience, with an organized swap, I first turn to the swap organizer with any issue. Even then, there's not always a totally happy ending, but at least there can be some closure or answers. This might also mean either me or the swap organizer talking with the customizer, but that wasn't necessary in either of my own situations.

if you have any concerns, you can also talk to the swap organizer before signing up or before assignments are made. I did this for the swaps that happened after the skill level issue.

oh yes! that helps :)
*bookmark*

rainbow hair gingerbread (I just BIN $130 including shipping from Argentina) - which seems fair b/c she doesn't come up that often
green skyflier rainbow hair (I'd say up to $80)
people are definitely *asking* more for truly (green), windy (orange) and ribbon (orange)...but I don't know that they're *selling* at those higher prices
gusty also seems to be selling a little higher for the condition yours is in (and around the $70+ mark for lesser condition)
flutterbye is selling for more than $65..more up to $80+ or so
the sparkle orange with butterflies in bowtie's pose you have asa $65-$75 (I paid about $130 in 2011 and there seemed to be lots of people thinking that was maybe a little high, but they wished they'd gotten her)
