Thank you for the reply! You know, I will ask a lawyer before we get married. I just want to make sure we have all of our ducks in a row. It's depressing though because it sure does take the romance out.  :cry: However, I think it's a good thing that we are so open to discuss money *before* we get married.

I am freaked out about the back child support. He was making a payment every month, but not the full payment because he was laid off. Now, he needs to get caught up.

he is more worried about it than I am. I love him, I know he doesn't have a perfect past. No one does. We are trying to fix the issues, all you can do is try to help each other.

Hi ponypals,

I've been thinking about this and I bet there are a lot of married friends on here who may be able to help. :)

When you marry someone, are you responsible for paying their debt?

For example, I have student loans, and he has credit cards.

He also owes back child support. He needs to pay it, I have no issues with that. However, I have heard that the tax man can take the spouses income tax returns in order to pay the other spouses debt.  :huh: Not cool.


I have heard that your credit reports remain individual. As mine is pretty great, and his is less than stellar.

Anyone have any experience you might be able to share?

I had to go with Princess Tiffany. I had all those ponies when I was a kid. However I love her name, it's the only pony I can remember who had a "people" name. She's the only all white pony other than the bride ponies. And, she's a Princess!
