The Dollhouse / Re: New Disney Dolls from the upcoming movie "Frozen"
« on: August 12, 2013, 12:37:40 PM »
Did you happen to learn if Mattel will be doing a Frozen line for TRU/Target/Walmart/etc, like they usually do with Disney stuff? I ask because I limit my Disney collection to just Mattel dolls (no Disney Store here, so it's also helpful for my sanity!)  ^.^

Yes there will be a general merchandise line from Mattel including a few doll variations. They had some of the dolls on display. I did look at them, but did not get pictures. To be totally honest (and everyone has their own opinions and likes and dislikes) I was not impressed by the Mattel dolls. They had a lot of painted on clothing pieces (tops/vests and arms) and the fashion doll set to me, for the Anna doll (one in braids) was heavy on glitter (and glitter painted on clothing).

I did find one picture online (I believe this was the fashion set)

The Dollhouse / New Disney Fairytale Designer Collection - Pic Heavy
« on: August 11, 2013, 09:32:04 PM »
I was at Disney's D23 Expo this weekend and they debuted the new Disney Fairytale Designer Collection as well as some of the upcoming merchandise. The area was packed all weekend long (read that as at least 2 hour wait lines to get in to the shop area no matter what time of day) I FINALLY managed to get in. While I was not able to grab quick photos of all the dolls, I did manage to get a few pictures of some of the dolls and paintings.

AND last for those of you who remember 2 years ago with the first designer set they made a set of note cards of the drawn versions of the characters, they are doing the same thing with the couples.

The Dollhouse / New Disney Dolls from the upcoming movie "Frozen"
« on: August 11, 2013, 09:20:32 PM »
I was at Disney's D23 Expo this weekend and they released an exclusive doll set for the upcoming film "Frozen" that will be in theaters in November. Here are Elsa and Anna, the main characters of the film. Similar dolls (probably styled a little differently) will supposedly be released in September to the Disney Stores as well as two male characters from the film.

Pony Corral / MLP Buttons - Anyone seen these yet?
« on: August 11, 2013, 09:13:12 PM »
I was at a convention this weekend and found a vendor who among other things had a box of mixed MLP buttons. They were a mixed box of G4 and G1 designs. They are a little bigger than a quarter in size. Has anyone else seen these or is this old news and I am way out of the info loop?

My ponies are in semi-storage. I have most of them in clear plastic roll around drawers or boxes, so while they are packed away they are still visible. I have a few play sets on shelves above them and a few ponies sitting out around the play sets as well as a few on my desk.

Personally, my husband has no right to talk about my ponies because he has a half a closet (about 31/2 maybe 4 feet across) closet full of Transformers packed in floor to ceiling. :D

If you go to the disney store website and read the info on the Limited Edition Ariel they comment "Match to our Limited Edition Prince Eric and Ursula Dolls, each sold separately"..... Ursula was known about being a limited edition, but Eric..who knew.

"I do think that our children are having a harder time with imagination if they're thrust in front of screens at a very young age."

This is a very real statement that is affecting both genders of children. I won't say which relative of mine did this, but I went to babysit his kids one day and the 3 year old boy was watching firetruck videos on youtube. And his dad smiles and laughed and said "Child rearing/babysitting is so different nowdays."

To me, the biggest thing that I see with toys and it doesn't' have to be dolls, it can be any toy, is the expectation that children "know how to play". That if you dump a toy out in front of a kid they magically understand how to use it and what can be done with it. "Play" and "Imagination" is something that is learned, taught or observed. A fair amount of adults are just buying their kids toys, opening them, and walking out of the room. The idea that "they get bored" and the solution is a NEW TOY!

In regards to dolls though, I was one of those kids who was never allowed to go to anyone elses house, so I played with my MLP, or my Strawberry Shortcake dolls and later on Barbie and other dolls by myself. I did have a couple playsets though and that may make play more interesting or I also used building blocks or Lincoln Logs to build furniture or castles, houses etc. I will say though, that Barbie back in the 80's is so not the same as she is now. Now everything is bright bright pink and EVERYTHING is pink and glittery. She used to have a wider range of colors for herself, her clothes and her accessories.

Another thing to mention perhaps is that we rarely got new toys. My parents couldn't afford it. So it was maybe on an occasion like Christmas, or a Birthday or occasionally maybe Easter or Valentines Day that we had new toys. So having less toys gives one a few less choices of indoor activities. We did have an Atarii and later Nintendo but my mother was VERY strict about how much time we could watch TV or play video games.

Pony Corral / Re: G1 Magnets?
« on: July 16, 2013, 07:56:09 PM »
You know.... now that I read this thread, I think I had the same set as a kid. I TOTALLY forgot about it existing. I am going to have to go on a closet/garage search to find out what happened to it. The last time I saw it (gosh I'm guessing around mid 90's) I know mine was still in it's box. I vaguely remember it being removed from my closet and boxed in with puzzles and colorforms and stuff when I was in high school and moved to I think (well, I hope) my parents garage (this was long before I had gotten back into MLP). There were lots of magnets in the set from ponies to flowers to butterflies and I want to say squirrels or rabbits (I'm not sure, been too long).

Show that you respect and honor the entire franchise instead of promoting a generational gap where you only care about the new and the old is dead to you.  You do it for Transformers, you can do it for My Little Pony.

I 100% agree!  For any of us with husbands or boyfriends, or someone in our lives who collects Transformers we all know how many re-issues and remakes there has been over the years of the original 1980's lines. They have given us ONLY two sets of reissued G1 ponies. I don't see how 12 ponies is ANYWHERE near equal to the dozens of reissued robots in my house. Mattel makes reissues of vintage Barbie, why can't Hasbro give us more collector reissue ponies?

Now, that being said, I do realize that the Transformers line is licensed from Takara/Tomy. So in regards to the Transformers reissues, there are actually more Japanese reissues than what was released in the US. In Japan the brand is manufactured under Takara/Tomy and in the US it is under Hasbro.

Now here is a wild idea...... Barbie has whole collector lines, and in addition a paid collectors club. So would the pony fan base be willing to do that? If Hasbro was to create a collectors club where they would release reissues, rarities, designer ponies etc, would we the fan base support that? Just food for thought.

I just collect button-type pins.

That is what my husband does as well. So between us there are loads of Disney buttons and Disney pins.

Thanks for all the comments on the Ariel pins. :)
I should actually organize the other ones I have. I have a bunch more pins stashed away in bags in drawers, as well as collector sets. Only problem with collecting things like that is they get expensive over time, which is one of the reasons I basically stopped buying them.

I can't say I go to many yard sales    StoryDreamer, but I would be surprised to find Disney pin collections at them. They tend to be at swap meets sometimes or at collectable trade shows or convention type events or at least around here that's where they are findable if not direct from Disney. Other than online of course. Almost all of the pins I own I have bought in person, with only a couple from online. I am kind of picky about my collectables and like to handle them and look them all over before buying.

I agree that perhaps some people here might want them. I bet a few people might be curious to see pics of which ones you want to sell.

YES! I have a small number from other places/events/things but I have LOADS of Disney pins. Some I had as a kid, but the majority of the Disney pins I have been collecting in the last decade or so as they became increasingly popular in the parks. I have various princess ones, other characters, parade pins, just really sort of whatever I thought was cute or was part of a theme I was into. I have not bought any in a long time now, but I do have pictures of a fair amount of my Little Mermaid ones. At one point I started organizing them into some pin binders, but well, life happens, and that was short lived. I have quite a few more Little Mermaid ones than are in these pictures, but you get the idea.

Thanks for finding out the price for me Bow Tie. :) It's a little more than I was expecting it to be but like you say you are getting 5 dolls for less than $20 a piece.  I wonder if there's any chance that Disney will release Vanessa by herself at some point. I'm not sure what to do now though.

Ponyfan

$79.95 OUCH! Sticker shock on that one. The thing is, the other 4 dolls have been out for a good while now. I could be wrong, but I doubt they will release her separately. It is how they will lure people into buying the set that already have the other dolls. Last years Cinderella Deluxe set had Lady Tremain, Anastasia and Drizella and they never were sold as separates in the store either. What you do in regards to buying it (besides the price) may be more of the question of how many of the other dolls you own that are in the set. You could always buy the set and sell off the individual packaged dolls that are duplicates. Another suggestion is to possibly wait till after or around the Christmas season. I am not sure when the Cinderella set went into stores last year, it may have been later in the fall, I can't say. But I was able to get them after Christmas for 50% off and stickered as "clearance" merchandise. Just a thought.
