Argh, can I steal your ringlets? So perfect
Very beautiful pony! I love the different shades of pink, and the eyes are wonderful.
Your sculpting is as flawless as your ringlets. So jealous  :silly:
Seriously, beautiful work!

Thank you so much, everyone!

Her hair looks stunning, I'm glad you got it sorted!

Such a good idea with those sparkly grapes...... *wishes I thought of that* :silly:
Thank you! And thanks for your help with the ringlets. They've stayed this time lol  :P
You should do one with the jewels! I bet it'd be ten times better than mine (still in awe over your Masquerade - so pretty!). Though it did take 169 of them in all to make Syrah  so make sure you've got a lot of them lol.

Here's another of my more recent customs. This pony was rehaired not long after I started customising (so probably about five or six years ago) and I had painted a TAF butterfly symbol on her. Then she was put away unfinished. Recently I decided to finish her, but didn't like the not-so-well-painted butterflies, so I decided to take them off and give her a new symbol. Here's what I came up with in the end. She has a total of 169 jewels on her (yes, I counted... Yes, I should probably get a second hobby )
This is my first real attempt (aside from two practice ponies - both of which failed) at ringlets. They fell out the first time as I didn't use hot enough water, so I did them again pouring boiling water over them. This time they've stayed  :P (Thank you to both NoDivision and StrawberryMeadow for their advice on getting the ringlets to stay in the second time! )
Any criticism is always welcomed, as I would like to improve wherever I can  :).
She is for sale on ebay:

Thanks everyone
I was quite pleased with her at first, but then I went back to her a week later and realized just how bad I am at painting animals

« on: March 27, 2013, 11:02:57 AM »
Hey everyone :)
Here's a custom that's been done for a couple of weeks now, but I've not had the chance to take pictures until now. She is for sale on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200910144516
I rehaired her with a lilac and a turquoise colour, but didn't know what to do as a symbol. She had a spring feel to her because of the colours, so I decided to try a pair of lambs. In my defense, it was my first time drawing or painting lambs since.. Well, probably since I was a kid, actually. I guess it probably shows
Anyway, here she is

Customs / Re: Making ringlets stay in for longer?
« on: March 24, 2013, 04:12:53 PM »
Hmm, maybe that's where I went wrong. I did have a feeling that might have been what I'd done, but I was hoping I could blame it on something else . I did wash in hot water and then dip into even hotter water afterwards (fresh from my arch-enemy, the kettle that leaks boiling water all over you when you pour from it), but it may have cooled too much by the time it was wrapped around the pencils.
I'll give her another go and I'll pour boiling hot water over after they're set this time.
Knowing how accident prone I am (especially with hot things), I guarantee I'll end up with some new burns to show for it, too. Yay.
Thank you so much, NoDivision

Customs / Making ringlets stay in for longer?
« on: March 24, 2013, 03:55:27 PM »
Wasn't sure if this should go here or in the Corral, but went with here in the end since it involves a custom

I recently finished a pony that has been half-finished for about five years (poor thing neglected at the bottom of a box of baits for so long). I wanted her to have ringlets, so after having practiced a little first, I tried it out using the straw-curl-method-thing (hair styling is not my thing lol).
23hrs later, I took the pencils out (I didn't have any straws, so substituted pencils). Then something entirely unexpected happened.
It had worked.
I had several (nearly) perfect ringlets, for the very first time. I was so pleased as I've tried to get the hang of it for a while. Long story short, I was really excited to get some pictures up of her on here, so went back to her with a camera a couple of hours later... Only to find they had already fallen out and turned to big curls.
Now, I know ringlets aren't permanent, but surely they should stay a little longer than that?  >_<
Any ideas how I can make them at least a little more permanent? I did use fairly hot water (I have the burns on my leg to prove it from when I tipped the bowl over by accident) as well as a pony-safe conditioner. But nothing else.
I know I've read some people used hairspray, but I don't use hairspray myself so unfortunately I don't have any.
Also as this is a TAF-style custom, I'm worried about using aerosol spray with unknown chemicals that could damage the paint.
Any suggestions?

I've only got pictures of my customs on my laptop at the moment, but it just so happens that one of the last ones I sold was Ti Amo, and she had a big red heart-shaped jewel on her :)

Wow, she's very cute!  :)
She reminds me a little of G1 Songster or Melody. Maybe one of those names would work? Or something like them, perhaps? She feels musical to me lol.
