I tried some air brushing today but my airbrush is fighting with me. I think I'm going to have to strip off my airbrushing and start over again from scratch tomorrow. But that's ok. I'm going to keep at it till she's beautiful.

Yes, all my avatars and signatures are Moondancer. Moondancer is my favorite pony. I had two favorites when I was growing up. I had Pink baby Ember, and Moondancer.  Baby Ember was who I felt like I was. Moondancer was who I wanted to be.  If that makes any sense.

I'm so excited for this project. It's so seldom that I ever actually just get to do a project for me out of a genuine love of my craft. So much of my work is for trades, commissions, sales, that sort of thing.  Being able to do something simply out of love is just an amazing feeling.

Me too. Me too. I didn't get a chance to work on her today. I'm hoping there will be some time tomorrow to work on her some more.

Well, it could be. But I did have to remove that same signature that was painted in green. It may have been that the original creator hadn't intended to paint the bottoms of the feet originally, but then changed her mind. And since the glitter glue probably wasn't murky to begin with, she may have painted over the ink in green and then put glitter glue over that and it was possibly more visible when she first made it.

without actually being able to ask the original creator, I guess there is know way to know for sure. Although it seems odd to put 2008 on a g1 pony, even if that is when you bought her.

I am curious about what's ultimately going to happen to her. I mean, you mentioned the green paint being resistant to acetone. Is she being 'fixed' and the original customization restored/improved? Or is she being stripped down to become another custom?

As far as what is happening to her, I'm going to redo much of the design. Maybe not all of it, because I can't really tell what they were going for on one of the sides. Plus I had a remarkable thing happen to her when I started trying to clean her up.

When I started taking the old manky paint off, the first places it started coming off were the places where the original symbol had been. so I got this effect:

It's like she was telling me she wanted her original symbol back.

so it will probably be a fusion of the original design and the Moondancer symbol.  It should look really nice when it's all redone.

I have some pictures of what this custom looks like.

So the symbol on her hoof looks like it could be a curly K, perhaps a curly K and J. Maybe even OKJ.  The year on the foot is 2008.

The pony has been rehaired with Nylon from Dollyhair. She was rerooted using the needle and thread method. The part that looks like old sculpting is actually glitter glue that has gone bad. The paint is craft acrylics.

The design seems to be very similar to a design that Colorscapesart did around the same time:

Perhaps the person was trying to do a similar design?  I'm not sure. it may just be a coincidence. There is no way to know without talking to the original creator, and we don't know who that is. yet.
I can say that the acrylics are very resistent to acetone. at least the green is.  It's being very difficult to get cleaned up.

Also the tail was done in a weird way.

I have since replaced the elastic band, tack, and twist tie with some zip ties.

Thanks everyone! Colorscapesart and Griffin, Hi!  I can't wait to show off my new stuff here soon.  I've got an airbrushed g4 and an airbrushed and rehaired baby sea pony coming up in the very near future.  Plus I'm in the middle of restoring a Raincurl that was rescued from a daycare's "going out of business" sale.  Also some Halloween/Fall themed customs.

Diamond, I loved how Baby Bubbles turned out. The Newborn I used, someone had previously tried to customize and gave up. She was all Silver and it took forever to strip the paint off.  But I got it! I think it turned out really quite well.  And now she has a mommy and lives in someone's herd.  :)

Banana Surprise was a labor of love.  I always thought she deserved a better color scheme than what she got originally.  I was happy to give this girl a new life with a more delicious color scheme.

Thanks! I have an airnbrush now, so those are the last of the hand painted FBR's.   I'm just finishing up my first air brushed custom. I can't post it yet though, it's for a swap.  But future ponies will probably have Ombra effects and will be airbrushed, which will mean smoother FBR's. I'm really excited about that.

I could have sworn I posted here. I wonder where it went...?

Anyway, I was going to say, I'm pretty sure it's Tiella's work. She does really beautiful sparkle resin ponies.

I suspect it's Tiella's work. She does those.

There is her deviantart account. If you are on there, I'm sure you can just shoot her a note. Of course she's also here at the arena too. So you can send her a pm here as well.

Customs / Nichi Tsukinoko here! Hi!
« on: October 02, 2014, 08:00:37 PM »
Hello everyone. I haven't really been active here for awhile. I've been continuing to customize though. I just haven't been making the time to get on and show everyone what I've been up too. Oops.

So I thought I would make a post saying hi and showing the customs I've done. I don't have pictures of all of them, I had a computer glitch and lost some of the pictures. I've been trying to get the owners to send me picts, when they have time to do so, so hopefully I'll have all of them to show off soon.

So here are the ones I do have, in no particular order:

Little Piece of Rainbow was a commission from someone who was a fan of the "Rainbow of Light" custom I did for the Saturday morning cartoon swap of 2010.

Starlite was a gift to a friend. He was made with a g2 McDonald pony and Embroidery Floss.

Katana Driver was a commission. He started off as a g2 pony and has been fully sculpted to become a g4 stallion.   He was named by the woman who commissioned him. He was named after her and her husband's favorite brand of Disc Golf gear.

Baby Bubbles was made as a trade. She was a baity newborn. Now she's an amazing Baby Bubbles.

Baby Tiddlywinks was a commission custom re-hair. She was a gift for a 18 month old who had just been diagnosed as deaf. She is now a teaching aid and has been used to teach that little girl the ASL signs for "sleep" and "Awake" and "horse".

This was a Medley that I got. She had lost most of her glitter symbols and her hair was a mess. She has been lovingly restored and was given as a gift to my baby's godmother as a thank you for hosting her first birthday.

Banana surprise was a 2 year labor of love. When I got her she was in terrible shape. Almost completely bald, what little hair that was left was in bad shape. She had been drawn all over. It took 1.5 years of sunfading before I get could get all the ink off all of her sides. Once that was done, she got a fresh paint job for her 3d symbol and new hair. She currently lives with me, but I'm sure she would love a new forever home if anyone was interested.

This pony was originally a g4 Rainbow dash. Now she is a G4 Medley. She lives in my collection. :)

That's it for now. If I can get a few more pictures of the other restores I've done, I'll post them. Thanks!

That is a beautiful custom Gusty! The colors are perfect! great job!

I took it. I hope they don't do a July 4th weekend. It's just going to drive the prices up and make it really a horrible time. That is not a good time to try to host an event. Anyone working in retail, won't be able to go. So many reasons to NOT do it on July 4th weekend.

Hmm. Well Moondancer is my favorite pony, so I automatically like this. I think I agree with NoD on the rainbow effect. I love it, but I think for a pony like Moondancer, maybe a bit more subtle would be better. I love the hair as it is. I think maybe in the future you could try making the moon more sharp, less rounded. I love the moon on the left side. The one on the right side is the one that looks kind of roundy.

I'm not sure if that helps or not, but I love that you posted this thread. It's good practice to give constructive criticism and to receive it as well. :)

Could someone critique this custom of mine that I did recently?
