Off Topic / Re: Anyone else have a strangely varied taste in music?
« on: February 18, 2013, 09:57:04 AM »
I guess me too. I listen to a wide gamut of styles ranging from oldies to rock to pop to j-pop to eurobeat to metal to country to childrens music to soundtracks. I guess my taste just bounces all over the place, and preferences increase if two genres overlap.

Off Topic / Re: You are in charge of promoting your town for vacation.

Lets see...

Klang, Malaysia. Melting pot of multiple races. How social? Quite social, people usually gather at hawker centers to watch live British/European/South American soccer matches at night despite having a satellite subscription just for the atmosphere.

What's to see? Well, there's about 6-7 shopping malls. Most of them are at the "new town" zones which is technically the outskirts of the actual town! Only two are in the actual town center! Aside from that, there's the harbourfront, riverfront (if muddy and polluted rivers are your kind of things) and a huge park. Also, the old state palace.

Food? Well, if you enjoy Chinese food, we're renowned for a Chinese dish called Bah Kut Teh, which is basically pork boiled in a herbal soup and enjoyed with rice. If you can't stomach that, don't worry- we have most of the usual fast food fare at the malls (and some like KFC and McDonalds are practically everywhere).

History? Very rich. This was one of the more important ports in Malaysia during the British colonial era. Even today it still remains an international port, being the maritime gateway to the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. And oh, it's also the royal town of the state, even though it's not the state capital.

Off Topic / Re: Windows 7 vs. Windows 8
« on: February 17, 2013, 07:33:06 AM »
Actually, it is quite easy to downgrade to Windows 7 if you're willing to spend money on the installation disc and spend some time hunting down drivers online.

Personally tho, I agree with most of the others here in that Windows 8's Metro UI is unintuitive for those stuck with a mouse. Heck, even those with older one-or-two point touch screens will not be able to use it correctly. I have an Acer T230H touchscreen, and Windows 8 is a nightmare to use even on it because some of the more important gestures requires three or more fingers.

Well, at least China loves G3s enough to steal G3 art.

Lancer and I were discussing stolen artwork on Chinese knockoff coin operated rides the other day and it led to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwb7AdzyHpI , which I discovered a few days prior.

See if you can spot any oddity with the ride in the video (hint: I see Sunny Daze and Rainbow Dash).

RAMChyLD -  re SSC -  I don't know that the show was the problem- Hasbro didn't take the show rights from Disney (where did you hear that?)  Disney never had SSC-  Hasbro's relaunch was on the Hub.
I'm sorry, maybe I should make it clear that this happened in Asia. And I should make it clear that I'm complaining about how Hasbro handled the show compared to how Bandai and Playmates handled the show.

This recording was made back in 2008 btw. A good 5 years ago.

The relaunch aired on Boomerang in Asia. Unfortunately, Boomerang isn't available in Malaysia, or a handful of other countries in Asia for that matter. During Bandai and Playmates' tenure, SSC aired on Disney. I see no reason for the show suddenly switching networks like that. The only logical explanation for this is Hasbro intervened and forcefully removed Disney's rights and gave it to Time-Warner. Especially since that happened after Hasbro took control of SSC and Care Bears. And did I mention that FIM also airs on Boomerang?

As for the rest of your argument, okay. Maybe it's because the people in the forum I'm in are technically focused around the 2003/2007 releases and hold those in high regard. And our forum is one of the smaller ones out there (we barely had 50 members in our heydays, and active membership had fallen to a low 6-7 folks since, primarily since we were constantly shut down by Proboards for no good reason and by the time we have reached our current hosts, lots of members had moved on). But still... Justin Beaver? I'm sorry, but that doesn't work for me, and neither does it work for some of the folks in the forum I'm in.

Also, voice actors. Not a good thing to discuss with someone who has had fan disillusionment.

Does anyone know if they had these in the UK or was it just the US? Might sway my decision to persue getting one :P lol
It's available in the UK, but most of the ones in the UK iirc had Tales Melody's Starlight's cutie mark and is pink in color.

These rides were made by a British company called Jolly Roger rides.

Hasbro owns the license to make dolls based on SSC.
Hasbro has the "Master License" to SSC- they have the power to dictate the direction to take the franchise and all the other franchisees must oblige (although not all- a franchisee here in Malaysia is still putting out infant and toddler apparels based on the 2003 Strawberry Shortcake Baby line).

And Hasbro screwed up with how they handled SSC, plain and simple. Compared to what Bandai and other companies have been putting out back in the 2003 SSC era, Hasbro's toys were mostly bland. Compare this: Bandai made various interactive toys, including a voice-activated Apple Dumplin and several interactive Strawberry Shortcake dolls. And oh, plushes. Lots and lots of plushes. Hasbro's "interactive" toys? A R/C vehicle and a doll that only made boring sound effects. Plushes? You wish.

Additionally, Hasbro's version of the show... For reasons unknown Hasbro felt that it necessary to rip the rights for airing SSC out of the hands of Disney and put it in the hands of Cartoon Network. Guess what? Cartoon Network hates you, Hasbro! They're biased to Mattel because Mattel's holding their sister company's toy licenses (who is the sister company in question? well, who owns Batman and Superman? Correct, DC!). Does it not sound alarms that they air Justice League and Teen Titans, and more egregiously, the Barbie movies?!? Anyways, CN proceeded to air the new SSC on Boomerang, which is not available in many of the markets that SSC was popular in.

Also, the change to CGI, new personality for each of the characters and new voice cast did not go down well with many of the 2003 fans. Let's just say Strawberry's snobbishness in the Good Morning America "interview" pretty much had fans with their hands up in the air decrying Strawberry Shortcake as dead to them. The 2003 Strawberry was a kind, humble being. This... This is not Strawberry. This is a Kung-Fu Creature On the Rampage, II.

Lastly, Honey Pie Pony, Angel Cake and Ginger Snap has a large fanbase. Not bringing back Honey Pie (which Playmates threw out when they forcefully took over the toy rights from Bandai, and many fans were hoping Hasbro bring her back before they knew of Hasbro's intentions), and throwing Ginger Snap and Angel Cake off the cliff, did not go well with that fanbase.

Oh, I nearly forgot, one more thing in two words: "HuckleBeiber Pie". Hope you're prepared for the vitriol for relaunching the Huck with his personality based on he who intelligent people hate, Hasbro. Especially from fans of the 2003 Huck.

Grail :(

I have space for one specially reserved in my room for it. I'm even willing to fork out a lot of money for it :(

But the powers that be seems determined to not let me have it :(

Personally, my opinion cannot be voiced here in detail because it will involuntarily spark internet backdrafts, but the one overall generalization of my thoughts for this is: No, the phenomenon is not good for the toyline.

I don't know. To the time machine to push the fish-brony that crawled out of the sea at the beginning of our evolutionary line back in!

I use Google. Before that, when internet was new and sparkly, I used Altavista.
+1. Before Google, I used Altavista. But after google and especially after Altavista's demise, Google has become my defacto search engine.

The Arena's timezone is based on California time since the founders are based in California. Since I'm one zone away from that, I have mine offset by +1. If you just use the "auto detect" link on the Look and Layout part of your profile, it'll fix you up.
Yeah, I figured XD I thought the offset is based on Greenwich Mean Time tho, given how many other forums I'm in align themselves to that timezone regardless of their location.

I'll definitely want the talking TS, the castle and the R/C car. The princess sets will depend, and of course for the TRU sets, only the fan favorites WITHOUT chrysalis. Don't want the others.

Now it's saying Good Morning to me, but it's 7:01 PM at where I am O.O

Edit: Ok, it turns out that there was an error in my time offset. I previously had it set to 8 (since I'm +8 GMT or 8 hours ahead of Greenwich) but as it turns out, SMF doesn't work that way and the offset is in relation to god-knows-where (Pacific Standard Time?) and should be 16 O.o
