Wow, I've never had this happen before. I've used 90-100% acetone with no troubles, even on a purply Up Up & Away.

could there be a difference between US and UK batches?

Psychotic. Anorexic. Giraffes. They will Murder you in your sleep.

Seriously, this is the stuff of my childhood nightmares.

Hard pass.

I don't like the G1 perfume puff ponies or the scented ponies. The G3 scented ponies are super cute, but the only one I have is a second-hand Citrus Sweetheart, because her scent faded.

I wish I liked G2 better, but they're body shape doesn't work for me. I do have a soft spot for the G3 McDonalds ponies though.

I liked the early seasons of the G4 cartoon, but I don't like the toys. They look like Bambis. Chibi style is not my thing. And don't get me started on the weird human-transformed ponies.

G5 toys look even more awful. They've put chibi heads on anorexic bodies to create the stuff of nightmares. So glad I don't actively collect much these days, except for baits for customs and a gem I find here and there. Every time I see what has happened to the toy industry these days, I'm glad I don't have children to be frightened by these psychotic pastel giraffes.

some band members before they got more popular, and actors at Comicons. never run into any in an unexpected place, and tbh if I did I probably wouldn't talk to them.

I feel like this a money-saving attempt by the company, making things from recycled plastic is probably cheaper than using new stuff. Plus, as others have said, destroying the old toys creates scarcity. My opinion may be cynical, but corporations have never proven my cynicism wrong.

I hope not a lot of people participate in this, because it won't make new toys any safer chemically, and it won't help the environment that much because - if you dig into research about recycling - only about 5-10% of plastics can be recycled anyway, and thirdly because the toys made in the 80s and 90s were such higher quality. They're never going to be made that well again, because corporations are more invested in profit than making a quality product. It doesn't matter the toy line, compare the old toys to the new - Puppy Surprise, Polly Pocket, MLP, beanies, plushes, whatever you collect. Across the board, prices have gone way up, and quality has gone way down. It breaks my heart.

It was working for a short time for me, but now it seems not be sending the notifications again. :(

CORRECTION: It's going to my spam folder, never went there before, but hopefully I fixed it in my email.

What a cool idea! Here goes!

My very first custom, in 2008: Heath Ledger's Joker. I used a clone pony, paints, and felt and sticker accessories. The felt pockets are handsewn, the hair was dyed with RIT dye, in shades of brown and green. Sealed in Mod Podge. I still like how it turned out, although its obviously not my best work. It has attitude! I remember the RIT dye was very messy and smelly.

My least favorite custom, another early one: Baby Aurora. This was my first attempt at a pearlized painted gradient, but as you can see my skills were not great. This is one of the last I sealed in Mod Podge, as in my climate Mod Podge gets tacky and causes paint to run. Now I use polyurethane varnish.

My most recent custom: Ambrosia, my persona pony! Made from an HQG1C blank base, roses embedded along the crest of the mane, cute little braid, and a re-purposed bumblebee earring.

My favorite custom: Hard to choose a favorite, but it has to be Jack Sparrow, who seems to be a favorite of everyone who sees my customs, he was so much fun to make! He was rehaired in yarn instead of nylon hair, and the mane is full of little beads, braids, and trinkets. I sculpted a pistol, sword, and compass, made a floppy pirate hat, and he's got a symbol on each flank.

Have you made the little roses yourself?

No, I don't have the sculpting skill for that! These are molded plastic beads, strung with wire which is rooted into the head similar to pony hair.

I may have seen this too late to help, but - I wouldn't try acetone like the OP mentioned. I've had issues with hard G4 customs where the acetone removes the symbol but also destroys the finish, eating into the plastic in a bad way.

Customs / ~~ White Sparkle Ponysona Custom: Ambrosia ~~
« on: March 19, 2021, 10:36:50 AM »
Ambrosia was named for the sacred food of the Greek gods, which has been thought to refer to honey. She is my persona pony, inspired by the literal translation of my name. Ambrosia was born from one of the HQG1C ponies, the white glitter Gusty pose.

Ambrosia's base color is translucent white with sparkly silver glitter. Her natural body color leans toward a cool or snowy white, instead of a warm tone. She is rooted with Dollyhair Nylon in Dusty Rose, Fairy's Breath, Haunted Forest, Honeysuckle, and Tea Rose. Her mane has a 4-strand braid in it. One of her most unique features is the turquoise rose beads rooted along with her mane. Her tail has a matching turquoise bow.

Ambrosia's forehead is decorated with a honeycomb "crown" in shades of amber and metallic gold. The amber hue shows up better under direct light. Her eyes and cheek blush were left original from the HQG1C.

Here's a close-up of her three-dimensional symbol. It's a rose with three leaves, and a jeweled bee perching on the petals. The bee is anchored into the body for durability. I used translucent ink for the symbol, so the glitter shines through beneath it. The symbol was sealed with a thin matte finish. The design was drawn freehand.

I'm very happy with Ambrosia's overall design. Her symbol shines beautifully in the light! I tried a few different variations of mane pattern, and made a last-minute change from a full blend to the classic stripes. The tail is rooted, too, to keep the striped look.

Is there any way to access old messages/PMs that were on the old archived site? I need to look up some people I collaborated with in the past...

EDIT: Nevermind, I found another place I had saved the info. Mods may delete this post.
