Off Topic / Dungeons and Dragons?
« on: September 19, 2020, 06:14:32 AM »
Just wondering, does anyone here have experience with Dungeons and Dragons and would be interested in playing it? I've never been able to play it myself, I am very much a newbie, but I've been trying for a few years now to find a game and everything keeps falling through.

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Re: Funko Pops - who else is done with them?
« on: September 07, 2020, 07:19:01 PM »
I hate Pops.  That being said, I have two.

I feel like this sums up the entirely of the Pops existence. XD

Agreed haha. I rather dislike Funko Pops myself, but I have one - a keychain pop of Rainbow Dash, but even that was only because all of the official models at the time gave her Fluttershy's eyes and other weird problems. It's the first and only one of the pops I've gotten or will get, my perspective on those is that it's not worth paying the price for a character I love if they're in a form I won't.

That said I do have one Funko vinyl figure, of DJ P0n-3, and would be happy to collect a few choice others, namely the other versions of DJ. The figures are definitely flawed and cheaply made despite their high price, so I'm extremely selective about which characters I'll get.

Thank you! ^^ A lot of those ended up being requests to work from a generalized theme, like I got two separate requests for sakura-themed ponies. I think only one or two ended up being pre-existing characters. Heck one of the themed ones was from a new mother, celebrating her baby boy. ^^ I'll never forget that one haha.

Now that I think about it, I've been on the fence about what I've been calling "design commissions" and one of my big arguments against it was that I might not enjoy trying to design things for/with people I don't know, but I don't think I really even knew a one of the people who asked for those "rave ponies" and they were a blast to make. Hm.

DMed the first two! ^u^

@Ponybookworm
Aw. The coffee things are sad, I've not been able to go out and get coffee whenever I've wanted anyway but I love going when I can. Hopefully all of this stuff can pass and things like that can start up again soon enough. It's been really wild, I've heard lots of people saying that 2020 is basically a bust of a year. I heard people saying that much when this year began and my thought was "Surely not..." Unfortunately so, the entire year. It's really bizarre. But we can keep hoping, right?

Oh! The Pony Central discord? Somehow the thought that someone else would be in both places fairly actively never crossed my mind. While I do try to be active there I can be a bit more shy about DMing people when it's an IM like Discord. I'm sure that seems weird and arbitrary but maybe after we've had a little bit more time to talk? c: I'm happy to DM on here though, I still get a little nervous about it but it's not as bad as when it's IM.

Ohhhhh. Well, I have them locked up in my storage on DA with everything else. I can unstore a couple of them to show you, but fair warning that these things are very old and I really didn't have any idea what I was doing.

That spa day sounds amazing~ I like trying to give myself such things sometimes too, but I just don't have the stuff for it. Usually it just ends up being a mani/petti and maybe a bath, maybe with some candles and oils.

As for today, I haven't had a lot of hours in my own day night yet but mostly just listening to a beautiful ambient music mix and cuddling with my little kitten plushies.

Oh..... This is... This seems like something challenging for me right now, but perhaps needed.

What is your big goals?
I always have a bunch of big goals going at once, these right now are probably the big ones:
- Take my self-critic's power away from it, stop the self-fulfilling prophecy surrounding thoughts like "I am unreliable."
- Learn how to separate my artwork from my attempts at "success" in the hope that it can help me enjoy it again.
- Take breaks when needed, instead of pushing myself after I've already run out of energy.

What are the small goals to reach the big Goal?
- Focus on little, winnable goals. Even if they're really tiny things, just do what I can to build up some confidence so that I can fight back against that terrible self-talk.
- Recognize when my self-talk turns negative and critical, and try to be understanding of myself when it happens.
- Clean up little bits of my room each day I'm feeling well enough to promote a better, healthier, creative space.
- Take action on it any time I have a drawing or doodle idea, even if it's only a few minutes of sketching.
- Stick to my new boundaries and do not show off the artwork that was only made for myself.
- Check in with my energy levels at least twice each day.
- Try listening to music, watching a show, drawing, getting a nice cup of tea, daydreaming, and so on to get my mind off of things when I've hit my limit.
- Remind myself taking breaks is an important part of processing anything.

Tell us something you like about yourself:)
I am creative, and seem to be good at creating visualizations of abstract concepts. I have also been able to help people when they've needed it the most.

One of my biggest weaknesses is definitely getting obsessive with my problem-solving and progress-making. I forget things like enjoyment and I fail to relax, so I always end up just becoming rigid, cold, and calculated about anything I try to do, things like this included. Often even if I remember to check in I can't actually tell what I'm feeling anymore. All of that is to say.... this could turn out terribly for me. I think things like this get wrapped into my consistency/reliability negative self-talk. This seems fun and I want it to be so, I want to do my best and use this to try and help me with that very self-talk, but this means I may also end up going dark at times. I can't ask anyone to help me keep at it or stay consistent, but perhaps I can ask, at least for my own sake, to not judge me for it if I do end up having to stop.

Isolation's really taking it's toll. On everyone, I know - people just aren't meant to socially isolate like this and definitely not for extended periods of time. My own Covid-like isolation's been going on for about six straight years due to extenuating circumstances. For a long time I had online friends and PTSD to keep me distracted from my isolation-related declining mental health, but both of those are gone now. I've been without even any online friends since around December 2019, and the effects it's having on me just keep becoming more and more clear and cute cat videos are only doing so much to keep it at bay.

I just need someone to talk to. Maybe we could talk about holidays, or ponies, or anything really. We could talk about movies even, I don't watch movies but I can watch recommendations and chat about them if you want. Is there anything you guys are excited about? Any crafts you're working on? I know I've been thinking about fixing up one of my adoptable designs and offering that, heck maybe even trying to revive an old Rave Ponies thing I once did on DA, but I've been a little on the fence since I told myself I was going on an "online art hiatus".

Same here :,D These are so cute! And they look so much cozier than I've been during this lockdown haha. Can we use any of the official character ones? I really like the one of Bubbles.  :relaxed:

Awh, I want this but I've been in the middle of designing a new character/persona and can't choose between all of the official ponies I like ;u;

-thinks for a while- ....I thiiiiink... I might go with Starlight Savannah for this one. o: One of my favorite old G3 fancharacters. c:

She's a cutie cascade sparkle/glitter pony, so she's got glitter on her face, mark, hair, and wings. I made a mistake with the wings though, I misinterpreted my original design drawing of her and thought her wings were supposed to be flutter pony wings, so I'd converted them to fairy wings. Turns out the wings are supposed to be like Star Catcher's, so heathered, just a different color from everything else.

 My slightly embarrassing original drawing, for context:

I feel like I have a much more rounded understanding of this now. c: Goodness how motivations have changed, haha. And yet.... To be fair, I've always been enamored with unicorns. I didn't really care for horses at the time but unicorns always had a presence in my life. My mother had a bunch of unicorn prints that she ended up giving to me when I was extremely small. At the time I think it was more of a "connection to my mother" kind of deal rather than actually caring much for unicorns themselves, but it just stuck with me and My Little Pony has a lot to do with that..... even though Friendship Gardens and G3 didn't have a lot of unicorns, haha. Actually I don't think they introduced the unicorns into G3 until well after I was already a full-fledged fan of MLP, seems like I found myself looking at the pegasus ponies and wondering where the unicorns were.

Say what you will about Megan but she emphasized that the ponies *weren’t* human.
Hm, I'll have to keep that perspective in mind the next time I watch G1. o: Especially because I've always been kind of the same way, I didn't really care much for straight humans haha. I like humanoids though, things like vampires, demons, centaurs, and so on. I've had literally multiple hundreds of characters at various points in my life and half or more were humanoids, but I maybe have had three or five full human characters in my lifetime. And even then most of them turned into not-full-humans over time, if I kept them at all.

I never personally minded them being humans stand-ins, mostly actually because I didn't like humans much. Like if I'd known a world creator and they came to me with a sketched-up design for humans, little me would have fired them on the spot. I basically thought anything was better with fewer humans haha.

Oh that was cute to watch! I love stop animation! CGI is just so common these days because it's the easiest and fastest way to make an animation, so I gotta give a company like Hasbro credit when they do something new and different. Yeah it was not the best quality stop animation I've seen but, I mean, it's just a 1.5 minute long short to sell a new toy. I'm not going to compare it to Coraline.

I really liked the claymation MLP logo at the end! Especially the colors they chose. I had flashbacks to childhood and some of those old claymation shorts, like the Penny show from Pee-Wee's Playhouse and Gumby.

I'm still sticking with my claim that modern MLP's look more like pig ponies than cat ponies, and now that their muzzles are separate from the mouth they really look like pig snouts. XD

Which is a misconception brought on by cartoons. Here is what a pig skull looks like. Its got a long jaw.

http://www.skullsite.co.uk/Pig/pig_gen.htm
This prompted me to find out what cat skulls look like, and wow. I knew that the FiM designs were based on cats, but the resemblance is surprising! I can easily see a FiM pony head in those.
