I haven't posted customs in so long, but here are my most recent two. Nothing novel, but I love making G4 versions of G1s! So here are Glory and Tickle. I'm not great at painting butt tats, but they're good enough for me to enjoy. BTW, for Tickle, I used the Year 2 Rainbow colors, rather than the year 3 Rainbow colors. I like them better because they are less pastel and more like a rainbow. The year three rainbow hair colors were just multi-color, which I always found disappointing. Here they are! visitors can't see pics , please register or loginvisitors can't see pics , please register or loginAnd here they are with all my other G1-->G4 customs (Gusty, Sky Dancer, Beach Ball, Masquerade, Windy, Red Roses, Swift Wind, and Filmation Swift Wind). visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I always do the regular brushables, which are 3.25 inches tall. I mainly customize them because I want them to blend in with my collection, which is all that size.
There's also the added bonus that it takes less time to rehair and your doll hair will make customs of a lot more ponies that way! On the downside, their butts are pretty tiny, so painting their tatts is that much harder (and I'm already not that great at it).
If your friend already has a collection, you might ask what size he collects, and whether he wants all his ponies to be the same size. Remember, the smaller brushables require less time and less hair. However, as has been stated, you can get better painting detail on the larger sizes, so the final product might look a little more impressive.

I did not just the usual boiling dye and it's still a lovely pink years later without any bleeding on my paint.
Have you ever put dyed hair into a head without an FBR? If I'm putting it into an unpainted pony, do you have any suggestions for sealing the dye job into the hair? I've read that vinegar is good for sealing dye jobs on fabric, but I don't know if that would do anything with the nylon hair.

Thanks for the advice! Kaoskat or Galactica, since you had success did you rinse it in vinegar or anything to keep it the dye from bleeding into the pony's vinyl? I tried dyeing the current quality with Rit Dye and idye poly. Nothing worked great so far, the dye could have been washed out and just left a hint of color.
Do you mean the batch currently available at Dolly Hair? Has there been a big quality change? I noticed that some Sour Grape I recently bought seemed a little . . . "gritty" as compared with Dolly hair I've had before.

Has anyone ever tried dying the GITD hair from dollyhair? The site says it can be dyed, but I'm wondering what experiences others have had with that.

Seems like Hasbro will rarely let any new ponies or ideas through unless they are terrible. These wings are horrendous. Whatever soulless exec greenlighted these abominations should be punished. However, if there's one thing we've learned in recent years, it's the bad decisions earn executives multi-million dollar bonuses and new company jets.

Who actually plays with their ponies? Monsters who don't care about ruining their precious precious collectibles, that's who!!!

Pass. G3 earthies are at the bottom of my list for several reasons.
1) Earthies are the least exciting species of pony. 2) The vast majority of G3s were earthies. 3) For the most part they weren't really organized into collectible sets. There were basically just tons of them.
Furthermore, I haven't felt the birthstones/birthflowers to be interesting.

I prefer Abra Cadabra. I rarely go for rereleases. Too bad that's all Hasbro wants to do now.

I'd be interested in the snow globe tutorial. As to the wing snow globe, I am staying away from those. I think they are kinda . . . not good.

Rainbow Forest is the site I always used when I was still actively seeking G2s. I don't really visit it anymore, but only because I got all the G2s I wanted. In any case, I certainly have fond memories of the site--it's pretty good!
