Oils themselves are not toxic. Turpentine which is used to thin down the paint is toxic to your lungs and is advisable to use it in a well ventilated room. There are odourless alternatives but they are just as toxic. Safer would be to use refined linseed oil..
If you really like oils you should try water mixable oils there is a good variety in quality and price available these days..

Woul you consider acrylics on fabric? as an alternative to embroidery it may be easier to find someone to do it for you at a more reasonable price depending on size and composition of course... is it your first? Good luck to you! ;)

I think you will end up paying about the same price for a loose g4 pony plus shipping and a retail one... who knows maybe in a year or two they will start showing up in garage sales for less money..
My first g4 custom was a bit of a nightmare; it took me ages to get the new tail in because of their small size. Maybe there is a way of doing it I'm unaware of; I don't know.
