Pony Corral / Re: Is the forum dying?
« on: December 29, 2018, 07:45:06 AM »
I can only speak for myself as I drop by and then go away for several years and then turn up again and then go away again. Being 42 now my life is full of stuff that needs taking care of and hanging online is not a priority or anything I have time for. It's great to have a place to go to when you need to talk to people who actually know anything about MLP collecting but I don't really feel the same way about forums as I did back in the early 2000s. ..and..wasn't there a place prior to the Arena ? I feel like I was member at another place as well - not the Scandinavian forum, another one. Anyone recall ?..growing old and very senile  :yikes:

Pony Corral / Re: Remove yellowing on old MLP playsets ?
« on: December 29, 2018, 07:39:57 AM »
Thanks, ponies  I'll give it a try at some point, don't have peroxide in the house right now..erm..
I found a few interesting videos on YT where collectors had good results with peroxide on Transformers and Masters of the Universe figures and they are basically same as MLP playsets I'd think.

Being a historian, film restorer and archivist I can see how time and the obvious enemies of all things will eventually take away what we adore.
It's been remarkable little focus on preserving and restoring plastic objects and I have been annoyed by the fact that we take action when it is too late rather than when there's still time - that goes for anything really - film, architecture or any design.
Of course historical objects are subject to how important they can actually be ? But as long as we do save certain pieces that are only of design value then all objects should potentially be of historical interest.

I'll do some experiments and post about the results - if anyone else try remove yellowing please let us know how it turns out.
I recall trying nail polish remover on something decades ago and that is a 100% total fail..obviously   :lookround:
Btw. have any of you seen MLP - or any other 80s toy - in a museum yet ?
We have had 80s interior, and I think it is a permanent display now, at the Norwegian Folk Museum. It would be so darn cool with a 80s toy museum...I die  :drunk:

Pony Corral / Remove yellowing on old MLP playsets ?
« on: December 28, 2018, 01:42:58 PM »
Hi all - I tried searching for this topic but couldn't find anything.
Have anyone successfully removed yellowing from playsets like Paradise Estate etc ?
Even though I have kept my collection away from the sun all my adult life most playsets have a nasty yellow color now and I really want to try fix them up.
Have anyone tried the usual peroxide/UV light or any such methods ? If this topic is covered somewhere please drop a link - thanks a bunch  :lovey:

My story is long and rather depressing at times, it's been a bumpy ride but my love for things like MLPs have kept me going through it all.

Today I'm a film historian - I restore silent comedies and research the history of a forgotten comedian from the era.
I live in a large old house in the country together with my hubby and my little critters : 4 bunnies and a macaw.
The gloomy side is 15 years of health problems -- chronic migraines and I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few years back after being seriously ill for several years. I didn't get treatment in time and still try very hard to repair the damages. It is not easy !

Apart from G1 MLPs I collect, Popples, Rainbow Brite, 80s Barbies of choice, Strawberry Shortcake, She-Ra, Jem..love Punky Brewster and 80s movies. You know -- fun, carefree colorful stuff.
I fill my house with antiques - the place looks like a 1920s jazz age flapper fabulous time capsule, and I wear a lot of vintage - mainly early 30s..love Pre Code 30s movies !!

I'm also vegetarian and quit wheat and it's done wonders - never touching that stuff again. I'm very health conscious - it's important. I want to collect ponies for as long as possible, lol
What else..I just unboxed part of my MLP collection for cleaning and my bathroom is full of dirty Popples in need of a bath - yup, moving sucks !
Yeah..and I love rainbow hair. First time I dyed my hair pink was in 1986 - I was 9. Not very usual back then. I blame it on ponies

I'm a tea junkie and I tend to opt for French teas like Mariage Frères or even Ladurée. Celestial Seasonings is very good too, and that's cheap..and in bags. I'm not sure if you can get loose tea from CS.

Introductions / Hi from Norway - I'm back again
« on: November 10, 2015, 06:25:05 AM »
I've been gone for a long time..oh, time flies ! Can't believe I haven't bought a pony for soooo long
Anyway, I just wanted to say HELLO  to all old and new collectors .
I collect G1 stuff - ponies, sets and merch..anything with a G1 pony on it.
I'm Norwegian and collecting 80s toys is one of my obsessions.
Apart from colorful 80s stuff, silent movies is my big thing - I restore films and research history from the era.

It's good to be back !

Strange, it says 57 kb on disc on my Mac and 54, 5 kb in Photoshop. Where do you find the info ?
EDIT  I resized again - it now says 33 kB on disc on the info here -- is it any good ?
