If you're in the business of selling ponies... making one that gets all dirty pretty quickly means customers will be buying a new pony soon. The dirty ones end up on the bottom of the toy bin while the newest sparkly ponies are under the Christmas tree. Probably all about attracting the interest of kids by constantly offering up something different.

Her owner loved her VERY much! And played outside alot. I'm doing this restoration for her original owner, who is now an adult collector and a member of this page.
I'm tickled it turned out so well, she's going to be overjoyed when she receives her pony back all clean and new!

She was seriously the dirtiest pony I've ever seen. Her owner loved her so much as child and played outside with her ALOT! I'm so stoked to do this restoration for the original owner, who is now all grown up and a serious collector, I know how much she'll treasure this pony. Her old friend returned to beauty and a gem of her collection!
Chapter 2 will be rehairing this pony, the original hair was just too stained and frizzed. She's gonna get alternative colors and man I've got a great idea for the pattern! Yeeeee! I love doing that part!

This one didn't even need elbow grease! She wanted so badly to be clean again, most of the flocking fell right off after a quick boil in Oxyclean. Then a quick treatment with the special chemical I use took off the last of the glue bits. Had her done in less than an hour!

When this pony arrived, I thought I'd met my match! Here she is, side by side with a recently finished Paradise (yes, there IS a Paradise under all that grunge!)

I am OPEN for deflock commissions! I can do rehairing as well. Please message me for more info and links to more examples of my work.

Reading this reminds me of when I dispersed a bunch of vintage Breyer horses on eBay. My grandmother had passed and we we're trying to get rid of her stuff. She had a collection of wonderfully soft 100% silk scarves...in the most hideous 70s patterns you can imagine! Yup, they were the perfect size to wrap one precious model in to protect its finish from the dreaded packing material shiny marks. Probably should've sold those scarves as thier own lot, but, eh...the buyers definetely got a surprise!

Ok collectors and dedicated pony followers, need your help on this mystery!
First off, tell me about "fading pink hair"...my assumption is that it takes sunlight and exposure for it to lose color. A Posey or Wind Whistler still on the hang card should have perfect hair color right?
I recently unearthed a G1 Curly Locks from my childhood collection...I got her very soon before the big move that put all my ponies in storage, carefully wrapped up individually and placed in a heavy cardboard box, for 25 years. She looks essentially brand new, but her hair has a white stripe, with zero evidence that there ever WAS any pink.
All the pics show her as the first stripe of the mane being that fading pink color - but is it possible that some ponies had white instead? How could a pony whose entire life has been spent in a box pretty much, have lost the color so perfectly and completely? Is there a chemical process at work that I don't know about? Her "pink" stripe is thoroughly and totally white, exactly the same as the bottom mane stripe...and it's perfectly white right down thru the roots. What the heck is going on here? Are factory mistakes in hair colors a known thing in the MLP realm?

LOL I always "identified" with Wind Whistler because she was intelligent, obviously well read, and a leader.
Of all the My Little Ponies of the G1 era, she was the only role model for young girls to think outside the girly box. Wind Whistler wasn't into beauty, dancing, cooking, raising babies, etc - the traditional female roles. She was highly educated and a damn good "pilot" - a STEM career minded pony!

I'm not a fan of the Collector's pose...those ponies to me have a dull expression and zero personality. So Softs ARE creepy, but boy they're fun to deflock... it's like revealing the "true" hidden pony inside!
Why is Munchy such a holy Grail? I remember NOT choosing her several times because her colors were so...70s. Reminded me of my grandma's hideous kitchen LOL

Wanted! / Re: Wanted - G1 So Soft bait for deflock
« on: February 17, 2018, 04:43:58 PM »
I have few ponies for trade, all of them were my childhood toys so there are some flaws, but most are in pretty excellent condition. I was never mean to my ponies! I have:
Sparkler
Peppermint Crunch
Bluebell
Cotton Candy
Chrysanthemum birth flower pony
Surprise (bait)
Fifi from Perm Shoppe (bait, very faded symbols)

Send me your email address for PayPal and let me know what shipping cost will be. Here's an example of my deflock skills, Buttons was super ragged and filthy, and came out so bright and perfectly clean!
I'm about to start on Skippety Doo today. It's hella cold and pouring rain here, I've got a whole weekend of nasty weather to work on pony makeovers, let the games begin...

North Star has 4 colors, Wind Whistler has 6. Yup, you're right, NS's purple IS a blend of fuschia and really dark purple. You can't see the shading transitions in WW's light colors very well...need sunlight photos!

Ok guys, I'm totally beat but I simply MUST brag. This was my first attempt at a restoration of this scope...and I love it!

These two ponies were my very most favorites as a child, and I just rediscovered them stashed away in storage along with about 30 others. Thier flocking had big bald patches from being ridden by GI Joes, sticky chocolate stains, chopped hair, and overall just thrashed...but so very loved! Can't tell ya how many bubble baths they shared with my filthy 8yr old farm kid self...their innards were just...eeeeewww!!....

So after alot of study and practice on various restoration techniques, I started on a full makeover of this pair - and literally just finished tonight!
In both cases the hair couldn't be saved, and, both had a single color mane n tail. I really love lots of beautiful color, so since this is a major custom overhaul, why not go nuts and give them an awesome palette in the hair? Sounds great, I'm down! Check it out...

Please excuse the ugly background and poor lighting of my work table...thier hair was finally dry and it's pitch dark out (plus my shoulders seriously ache and my hands feel like raw hamburger after 2 days of rehairing). I haven't had a chance to do any curling or styling yet either... photoshoot to come later on a sunny day!

I really enjoyed this experience and have several more bait So Softs who will be getting the same treatment. It's extremely satisfying to see a gnarly pony shed her layers of gross and be reborn as a shining beauty! If you've been wanting a particular deflocked pony for your collection just ask, she might be waiting in my project box :) This is an art form just like painting, I love the challenge of blending hair colors literally strand by strand to match my vision - and believe me, the pony herself tells me what colors she wants to wear in her new form!!
Challenge question: how many colors did I use on each of these two ponies? (Totally not fair  I know, cuz the lighting sucks, I'll post new ones in sunlight I promise!)

Oh my goodness yes she does! I'll take her, even if she has to wait in line a bit. The darker colors sure are fun to "reveal". Do you see any yellowing glue patches on her? My Wind Whistler had a bad case of that and man, it was like trying to lift cement to get it off! Left a faint haze of yellow that you can only see up close in strong light - was afraid too much chemical might burn her so I quit before she got hurt.
Anyway, let me know what other so soft ponies you happen to find in your bait box...they are welcome too!
