They must not have been selling well locally, because the only kinds my nearby stores have are the Apple Family wave and the Sugarcube Corner wave. They just now started getting the Nightmare Night wave a good year or so after the original playset was sold for it.
I have little hope for coming across the movie waves in store, so I may have to order a box online although that does take out a lot of fun for me.

*offers you a warm cup of Commiseration Tea*  I missed getting that lovely Princess Luna card one they put out some years ago, so when I saw they had a Tempest Shadow set ads I got all grabby-hands.  Sadly they haven't appeared up here.  I did break down and order a Tempest from someone in Poland (one of those magazine insert ponies) but I paid a premium price for her.  She's a nice horse, and the shipper was prompt so I can't grumble.  Plus I managed to stumble across a "cake topper" (aka cheap knockoff copy from a real set of ponies) of Grubber that's the right size to go with her, but he needs a repaint in the worst way. Right now he's slightly sticky to the touch and the paint on his eyes is a bit... disturbing.

I'd love that Luna but I can't pay over 30 dollars for one plastic mini horse.  With shipping that's about the going rate on eBay - and you don't wanna know what they're charging for that lovely Celestia.

One day our ponies will come.... :P

Toys R Us!

*smacks forehead*  Of course - sorry about that.

We do have a TrU but it's in a weird spot and I can't get to it that often.  Maybe I should mount an expedition.

Nope. I just saw a box of brand new characters at Walmart and TrU last week.

Our local Walmart is a strange hall of gloom.  S'probably just my Wallyworld being it's usual self.

(I'm sorry - I don't know what a TrU is  :(  )

Pony Corral / Re: Favorite Pony Colors?
« on: November 19, 2017, 06:21:03 PM »
I only collect the G4 blindbag ones.  My favorites are the little white and dark brown ones -- although my all-time favorite is a dark blue-green one with almost magenta mane and tail.  This same colour comes in a transparent version that I just adore.

34
As some of you probably know, I have a little g4 blindbag obsession collection.  I'm not looking to collect every pony, but I do like to add to my nerd herd and customize them when I get time.

I was hoping the movie would bring a new rush of blindbags to my area, but sadly this isn't the case.  I think our local Walmart got one box in.  I snagged a couple and so far, no new ponies.  We also don't have any of the movie tie-in mini sets (yes, I'm trying to convince myself that a grown woman NEEDS a Canterlot Castle playset, because I have a mighty need would like to add that Celestia figure to the gang, but the eBay costs plus shipping is insane and I just can't justify it to myself, yet).

I've also noticed that even the factory seconds I sometimes buy from chinese resellers are getting harder to find too.  Plus the prices have gone way up.

Anybody else here in tiny horse drought conditions, or is it just me?

p.s. Months of thrift store shopping has yielded ONE tiny horse - a rainbow dash.  She will be loved but it takes a lot of digging through mountains of mcdonalds toys and bags of contorted barbies to find them.  But the hunt there continues.

Customs / Xenotropos Customs Masterpost - Update: 28/01/2018
« on: October 26, 2017, 08:57:02 PM »
From here on all the ponies I customize will be posted in this thread, to keep from messin' up the joint

Mostly I do blindbag customs.  My personal goal is to have a blindbag to represent every pony in G4 Ponyville, and a few other characters too.  This is gonna take a while (as in years).  You might wanna grab a snack.  And even if I don't succeed I'll have fun trying.

New stuff will be added to this thread at the bottom of the list as I go, so please check the last entry for the latest update.

Anyway to start things off, I bought a set of "cake toppers" representing characters from the recent movie.  They were a lot smaller on the whole than I imagined, but a couple looked like knockoffs from official toys.

One of them was a Songbird Serenade figure (or as I call her, "Sia Pony").  She was a little thinner in the legs than your standard blindbag pony, but she was the right height.  The modeling was nice but the painting....it was in a slightly sticky rubbery yellow, over black pvc plastic of all colours.  I dunno how food safe that paint was, let alone that sticky feeling it had gave me the willies.  So I took as much off as I could with acetone and gave her a new paint job.

Please excuse the quality of my cruddy phone camera.

I have to admit her cutie mark could be better, but I'm still not used to painting hearts that tiny!

More will follow.  Eventually.

Off Topic / Re: What else do you collect?

Does "collecting cat hair in the corners of my apartment" count?

I sort of collect kirins and "lucky kitties" on a small scale.
I also have a collection of second hand Transformers, mostly non-bayverse for preference.
And for some reason people keep giving me keychains/keytags.  I have an accidental collection of those too.

I tried to scare up his name for you, but the Filly line is a rabbit hole.  It seems that not all of them have names, that some ponies may share names (or have radically different colours for the same horse) and that various countries have misprinted the names so .... well, it's a bit of a mystery to me.

I *think* this guy is Sultan Admin, aka Prince Admin, aka Sulta Admin, and is considered a "boy princess pony."

Here's a pic.  Don't let the eye colour fool you.  He's also coloured in bright blue in some images for ... reasons.

Here's a family tree, apparently full of misspellled names.

They're cute in an awkward sort of way.  They also come in about a bazillion different colours, kinds, shapes, species, blind bag runs, cards and the list goes on.

Arts & Crafts Corral / Tiny Things for Blindbag Ponies
« on: October 03, 2017, 07:44:46 PM »
This'll be my masterpost for all the tiny things I make for my blindbag ponies: props, food, and whatever else.  Any pics I take in the future will be added to this to keep me from clogging the forums

Let's start with some apples. And applecrates.

Here's the Apple Family playing with their new baskets.  Poor Granny Smith got cut off on the right side there.  This is why I'm never asked to take photos at family events.
I haven't found anything I wanted to make the handles out of.  Staples are too thin and too large.  I'm working on that part.  For now the Apples will just have to deal with handle-less baskets.

The baskets

The apples are not glued into the baskets.  I just put them in there to make it look nicer.  The baskets are made from cardboard strips.  I figured the Apples use old barrels that are way past their prime to gather fruit in, so I didn't try to make them look pristine or even.

The apples (the fruit, not the ponies  )

Good ol' fimo to the rescue.  The stems are made separately from a thin roll of brown fimo that I cut and glue into place once the apples are baked.  It's hard to tell from the show just what size the apples are, as they resize the objects in the animation to fit the situation.  I guessed and sort of went for a largish size.

(I just noticed that it says "I LIVE IN FEAR" on the dvd spine right behind Apple Bloom.   You can rest assured she's with her family and totally safe.)

If you haven't seen it yet, The Blue Bottle Tree is an absolutely amazing resource for all things polymer clay. Good luck with your apples! :)

Thank you for that link!  It's a real treasure trove of info!  BANG goes my productivity for the next few days :D

I'm about to try making stems.  Say a prayer to Celestia for me  :P

Ooooo! Photo's please? I must be emotionally 5 too

Once I have enough prop parts I'll certainly do that :D

Today I try to make fimo apples.  Wish me luck.

I use Pullip Accessories for my dolls all the time and they work really well size wise.
My suggestion is too look at Reqium Art's blog and see what she uses. :)

Thanks for the suggestion!  I'll look into both of those!

Pony Corral / About 1:12 scale dollhouse props
« on: September 15, 2017, 06:03:15 PM »
If I was going to buy pre-made dollhouse items for use as props with blindbag G4 ponies, would 1:12 scale be okay, or too large?  Anyone out there tried this before?

I like to arrange them in little dioramas.

I'm emotionally 5

Pony Corral / Re: My Little Pony.....Meat?

Would you believe the Canned Unicorn Meat, when it first came out, was stopped at the Canadian boarder because they "couldn't identify the animal it came from".

The tin contains stuffed animal parts.  Annnnnd Canada customs apparently believed in unicorns.

(you can get this novelty item now in Canada as somebody thought to check with the supplier)
