Oh my goodness...I could tell by the "pictures" that SOME were a little rough, but I never ever thought they were as bad as what you got! That's so crazy and sad!   :yikes:

I have a soft spot for wingers, they were my focus when I was checking it out. I even went back at the end of the auction to see what they sold for (I'm trying to learn the going rates of different ponies) and I thought WOW...they got a steal! I would've been heartbroken too if they'd arrived in such awful condition.
I'm wishing you much better luck on your future pony finds, I think you've earned it at this point.  :lovey:

I feel so bad that a purchase you were super excited about went so horribly wrong!! I've been reading along on this post as the arena weighed in to help you, and I'm so glad that you're at least done with the mess!

I debated on whether or not to say anything...
But I knew exactly which listing you were talking about because I thought really hard about bidding on it myself, but I didn't. I was already committed to purchasing other ponies so I passed. I feel like it just proves that an experience like this can sometimes just be bad luck and randomly happen to anyone. Again, I feel for you and commend you for enlisting the help of the awesome people here on the arena. As a newbie collector it could easily have been me, and I'm not sure I would have dealt with it as well as you  :hug:

this is true!!! if i went to like, an antique store and saw a case full of g1s, id only pick my favorite of the bunch-or none at all if theyre overpriced ; )

but everytime i see g1s at the thrift store or at a swap meet i scoop them up. my collection is pretty small, im always looking to add more in general, even if they arent on my wishlist.

It may sound strange, and this only applies to G1 ponies, but it really depends on how they're being presented. I can rationalize walking away if they're being displayed as collectibles because I feel like someone who will appreciate them will get them.

On the other hand...I recently bought G1 ponies I didn't really need because they were displayed on the ground (in the dirt) at a swap meet. I also took home another that day that was squished up in a box and baking in the Florida sun. I just couldn't walk away and leave them to that fate...I had to rescue them!

I'm not quite as sad now...

I love the way the G1 catalog is set up by country or color on strawberry reef. It makes it easy for a newbie like me to just browse and learn  :heart:

But like many others, I also use MyLittleWiki. The sheer amount of info available is mind boggling to me!

     I agree that they really don't photograph well. While cruising EBay I've seen a few that had horrible eye rust that were truly scary!
When I finally got a nice BBE pony in my hands,  I thought it was much cuter in person. It's something under the eye area that looks weird to me.  :shrug:
Although, there's just something about the BBE baby Shady...that one gives me the heebie jeebies  :bolt:

I have been pondering this question since I saw the listing go up, even though it's not something I'm bidding on either  ;)

I'm pretty new to collecting, but even I thought that pony looked unique. I was so curious and checked it out on My Little Wiki but couldn't find any variations that truly matched. It is certainly a mystery...to me anyways  :wonder:

Regardless of who she is...I think she's beautiful  :lovey:

I get what you mean about using the site...
I'd never participated in a forum before the mlparena, and although it does take a little time to figure out how to use everything, it's definitely worth it.
