Pony Corral / Re: simple restoration advice, please?

Thanks for the advice X3
The problem is the part of South Africa I live is extremely dusty. We have tourists who make fun of us for how often we clean our houses but it's because of the dust XD so my ponies will probably need to be washed once a year or so or they'll fall back into terrible condition just from standing on a shelf like they did last time. This is why I'm worried about watercolour paint just washing out.

Hmm, yeah. I don't know if I trust my skills enough to try and recolour Baby Meadowsweet's hair. I though that might be the case, but if you say it's difficult maybe I should not try it. I might damage her hair or make it a uniform colour by accident.

Ah and thanks so much for the advice on the boiling water! :D that really helps me out a lot! I'm scared of the straight-iron, but I didn't know I could leave conditioner in. That already makes me feel better about it.

Thanks for all your advice and, as always, you patience with me 8D;;

Ah, you guys think so? 8'D maybe I'll leave hr as is then. I'm rather embarrassed by the condition of some of my ponies, but at the same time I have little to no confidence in my restoration skills either 8D;; I want my ponies to be lovely and pretty like everyone else's, but I don't want to damage them either XD;

So in this case, if you guys say it's better to leave her I'm happy to do so. Her condition doesn't actually bother me that much personally. But I suppose I'm awed by how good other people's ponies are.

Pony Corral / simple restoration advice, please?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone here has any advice on how to restore the colours on baby Meadowsweet's mane and tail? The one I have still has her colours but quite faded and I'd like to know if I can spruce them up a little bit?

Also, I have a Rosedust I bought at Comic Con this year with hair bleached all the way to white. I don't live in America so I don't have access to Rit Dye. I read somewhere someone used watercolour paint to repink some hair but I think this would wash out after a wash or so, wouldn't it? Is it possible to use red ink that's been watered down? Or is that a very bad idea?

Lastly, Everyone says that boiling water is a good way to help straighten slight frizz in pony hair but I'm really really scared of doing this as I'm afraid it might damage my poor ponies further. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this properly without destroying my poor ponies? I don't even have a test pony to try it out on. XD;; I love all my ponies too much.

Please let me know if anyone can help. Thanks guys!

This thread is doing wonders for my low self esteem with some of my ponies 8'D a good chunk of my childhood ponies have bad hair cuts, but their bodies are in close to perfect shape. I was still thinking I was the worst pony owner ever XD;; now I feel a little better.

Something about before and after restore photos is really uplifting, too.

Ah, thanks Lunar_Scythe. :D I'll make sure to use the right type (We sadly don't have this iraculous product "goof off" that I've heard of. I found an import place that sells magic erasers though :D I'll have to save up for them.)

Interesting! 8D If I see any Nirvana ponies on our local site I'll let you guys know! Even if she's too expensive for me. I enjoy tracking down HTF things far too much X'D even if I'm broke most of the time.

Thank you so much Hathorcat! 8'D Yes, she's my own art. I wanted an avvie to use since I don't like leaving that blank when I joined sites so I used one of my newest drawings XD

I've been in a slump art-wise for a few months now, but she was something I actually managed to draw this week and I was so happy ;w;

thanks so much for the nice compliment! <3

Dream_Weaver: Aww really? That's so sad! X'D my poor babies! (at least I love you)

I'll upload photos of Night Glider after I've given her a proper clean. I'm confused about her blue symbols but I'm thinking it's probably fading. I just want to check if anyone else has ever seen this.

I'll have to go through my collection to check their copyright but I believe they're all just normal Hong Kong/China ;) My rainbow ponies all have glittery symbols, so nothing interesting there either XD but I'll keep my eyes open for when ponies go up for sale on our local auction sites :D Unfortunately with G4 people have educating themselves much more on pony worth these days, so most people who have nothing to do with the pony fans at all have learned how to price their second hand toys 8'D pity.

X3 Hi! I'd be great if I could find sellers here in the country! (even though my mom seems dismayed that I'm spending money on ponies when I'm suppose to be setting up health insurance, life policies, etc etc. I can't help it 8D;; )

I tend to visit the States every 2 years for Comic Con in Sand Diego. I should see if I could also find a way to incorporate pony buying during that time ;D (Although Comic Con itself has some very nice and kind pony sellers)

I only have 1 Nirvana pony :D I posted about her in the Nirvana forum because I got her in a rather sorry condition and was wondering if she'd still be worth anything at all ^^;
But now that I'm better informed about them, I'm definitely gonna keep a closer eye on our local bidding website and hospice stores ;) I will definitely let know if I find anything interesting!

Thanks for the welcome guys X'3 everyone is nice here.

Thanks so much guys! X3 I have never rehaired a pony before but when I visit the states again I'll buy some nylon and try to rehair her as best I can since her head already moves and should be easier to remove than the other ponies. (I once damaged one of my ponies trying to remove her head and now I'm paranoid).

Her hair is made from some really strange nylon. It's not shiny and soft like a normal pony's. It's more like hair you'd find on a cheap babydoll that's been dyed or something 8D;; but if I rehair her I think I'll use the nice Saran hair instead.

I'll try nail-varnish remover on the bottom of a hoof first, I think. Just to be safe :) i think there's a mark there I can test it on. Luckily none of the spots are close to her symbol or eyes so they'll be safe.

And thanks for the estimate Pinkkittywinks! I'm surprised even in this conditon she'd be considered worth so much! I was think she'd get knocked from thousands down to maybe $20 if I was lucky 8D;;

My mom goes to a lot of Hospice and SPCA charity shops, so I've educated her on how to spot a Nirvana pony from here. Just in case she ever strikes lucky again ;)

Ok, so I'm obviously new here and don't collect for value... but discovering a few days (literally days) ago that I own a Nirvana pony and never even realised it, I was just wondering what some of my ponies are worth, just out of curiosity. It never mattered to me before so I never bothered to look into it. But Now I'm super curious XD I doubt anything I own will be that rare or pricey, but I thought it would be fun and really, these are things I should probably know about my own collection @__@

(Please don't judge my ponies' conditions too harshly ^^; Most are from my childhood and others I bought second hand specifically because they weren't perfect

This list is long and I haven't photos yet as I am cleaning the entire collection at the moment, but with very brief descriptions:

Year 2 - 3

  • Bubbles - Missing Tail. Otherwise is fine

    Twilight - slight fade on glittery stars but otherwise very good condition

    Glory - head can turn and slight fade on symbol but otherwise fine

    Starshine - mohawk. pink strek as almost completely cut off. tail cut short. very slight fade on symbol. permanent marker names on 2 of the hooves.

    Powder - no real problems

    Flutterby - mane and tail cut extremely short. Slight symbol fade

    Baby Glory - no real problems. (Needs some cleaning to get rid of pin-point dirt on legs)

    Sprinkles - head is a little more faded than her body. might still have ribbon but I'll have to check

    Baby Cotton Candy - perfect except for tail-rust

Year 4 -5

  • SS Ribbon - close to perfect. flocking worn on very tips of 2 hooves.

    BBE Baby Ribbon - perfect

    Pearly Sea Shimmer - perfect (no float)

    Wingsong - no flutter-wings. mane and tail have both been cut to what I would like to think of as "manageable size" Permanent marker on bottom of one hoof. Spot on front hoof that could be a cancer spot but I'm not sure

    Tex - mane is cut shorter. No bandanna or hat. symbol is faded (especially pink grass)

    Baby Northstar - mohawk. Scuff on tooth

    Baby Bouncy - mohawk. slight scuff on tooth. permanent marker on bottom of hoof

    Scoops - close to perfect. (body has strange texture to the touch? almost chalky?)

    SS Magic Star - flocking is worn in some areas. Otherwise perfect. no stand.

    Rosedust - has black marker spots on her here and there. hair has faded to white. I still need to condition her hair as it has not been combed for many years. It still has a curl to it though. No flutter-wings

Year 6 - 7

  • Buzzer - wings removed. mane and tail cut very short. tiny spot of blue wax on leg and on cheek. (don't ask) tail rust. Permanent marker on bottom of hoof

    Night Glider - close to perfect but purple symbols are dark blue? Is this fading? Permanent marker on bottom of hoof

    Crunch Berry - mane cut, scuffs on symbol. permanent marker on bottom of hoof. No more scent.

    Wave Runner - severe mane and tail frizz. mane and tail have been severely cut. permanent marker on bottom of hoof. Otherwise perfect

    Star Hopper (store version) - no tail. Mane cut to almost nothing. Rust on the inside and loose washer

    Non-BBE Baby Half Note - possible mane and/or tail cut but not much. Permanent marker lines over symbol on one side

    Mommy Apple Delight - yellowed. eyes seem faded. Hair still pink. (possible mane and tail cut but not much) Permanent marker on bottom of hoof. slightly scuffed eyes.

    Sister Apple Delight - possible mane and tail cut. yellowed. slight scuffs

Years 8, 9 and 10

  • Sea Breeze - tail cut. eyes scuffed. Permanent marker on bottom of hoof

    Baby Toe Dancer - tail and mane cut. Permanent marker on bottom of hoof. ribbons on hooves scuffed

    Bunny Hop - missing hat and bunny. Hair frizz.

    Sparkly baby Firefly - close to perfect. Still has factory curl

    Bridal Beauty - missing accessories. hair and tail are in braids so I will need to check it for quality. Missing accessories. Permanent marker on bottom of hoof

    Birthday Pony - slight lipstick stain on lips. tiny pinprick holes on both ears (earring I assume) and tinsel is slightly wild. hair is perfectly straight but uncut. Otherwise close to perfect.

Non-US ponies

  • Tutti Frutti - mane and tail cut. Orange of symbol has faded to yellow. (No accessories)

    Baby Meadowsweet - fading to streaks in hair

    Baby Susie - good condition. Has Spot. Spot is a little scuffed and has scuffs on his ears and foot.

    Newborn baby Stargaze - perfect

    G3 small Royal Beauty plush (with yarn hair) - perfect

    all 6 2007 "Original 6" pony re-releases
    Blossom, Snuzzle, Butterscotch, Blue Belle, Minty, Cotton Candy.
    All are perfect condition and all have their ribbons. (no markings on bottom of hooves??)

    "My Little Pony Classics" 2014 tiny Firefly still in plastic bag with comb. Box and tiny book are perfect

    "Strange Times in Ponyland" HC book - (Water damage on all pages but no tears or pages sticking together. just stains)

    "Baby It's Cold Outside" VHS with clamshell box. UK release. (no idea if it still works. Box and tape seem in great condition)

    Ponies I have in the mail I have no idea of their condition yet:

    Baby Bowtie. Kiss-and-Tell. G2 Princess Crystal

Phew! That's it! (I have a ton of G4 toys but I'm not as interested in price checking those just yet)

What do you guys think?

Ah I see! Yes that makes sense for her green streak then. The rip is very clean and she is also made of quite hard plastic. And good to know about the head, thank you  :D I was thinking that might be the case but wanted to be sure and not just presume.

X3 That's also probably very true too. I would like to think she was very played with. Sometimes I forget that damage can mean a pony was cared about very much ^^; but it's very true. That makes me feel much better for the poor thing.

would the nail polish remover damage the plastic in any way or bleach/yellow her? I'm always worried about my own abilities to care of things.

thanks guys!
(let me know if anyone could guess at a price. I'm super curious XD)

So here's a slight story. I've known for many years about ponies unique to other countries (although I was not familiar with the term "Nirvana" before) but I was never aware that South Africa (my home country) had our own unique ponies. The only ones I ever got my hands on were the 'international release' ponies I guess I could call them.

So, a few years later when I was in my early 20s my mom got me 2 ponies (I think, it my have been just this one) from someone. It ended up being a Starshine which was a South African Nirvana pony, but at the time I had no idea what those were so I was extremely confused by her. At first I thought she was a fakie (although I didn't know of many fakies that were direct copies of specific characters) but she has the proper markings under her hooves for Hasbro so I was very confused. I kept her, not sure what to make of her.

So, about a week ago I learned that she's actually a Nirvana pony and, apparently, would probably be worth something.... if it wasn't for the fact that whoever owned her before me must have been one of the roughest children I've ever heard of as she is EXTREMELY damaged in multiple ways.

He hair is severely cut and I can only assume the child hated green because her green streak in her mane looks as if it had been ripped off. The hairplug holes have been completely cut So that even if I had the means to rehair her, I can't. There are highlighter stains on her one side, her one ear has chew marks, there's some scuffing on her face where the plastic has become shiny or in some cases cut into (as if with a kitchen knife) and she has various spots that look like paint spots on her.

Her head also turns but I'm not sure if this is due to her head being removed at some point or if this is just a common thing with SA ponies.

I don't think I will ever sell her, but I was curious what happens to a rare pony's value when it's this badly mangled. Does anyone have any idea what she'd be worth in this sorry state?

Like I said, I don't think I'll sell her. If only because I have a soft spot for abused ponies.
It's just sad that the surprisingly rarest pony I owned is in the worst condition of my collection 8'D

These were taken after a clean.

Hi everyone. :) I've been aware of the Arena for over 10 years now, but at the time I felt I was too young and lived too far away to properly be a member and after that I erm.. forgot ^^;

I live in South Africa and primarily collect G1 ponies. Perhaps mostly out of nostalgia? heheh

Ponies are hard to find here, even G4 ponies can be annoying to track down (and I don't think we ever got the blind bag ponies of G4), so it's difficult for me to collect ^^; on top of this, I worry the very very dusty atmosphere where I live will damage them. It worries me a lot @.@

I generally buy ponies that are in 'played with' condition as I don't have the confidence that I could keep mint ponies looking mint. (again, see 'dry/dusty country comment)

I would like to perhaps buy through this site if ever possible, however, I'm more interested in sharing and gathering information I'm interested in collecting photos of packaging, learning about ponies from other countries outside of the US I may not know as well and try to learn how to judge what people may be selling second hand here.

This is getting long but that's basically it. I'm gonna try and be active but I'm not super chatty. Forgive me if I go quiet for stretches of time

Sometimes I draw things. You can check out my deviantArt if you're interested at all. :) just thought I'd mention it.
