Pony Corral / Re: Kids "helping" their blankflank ponies

Most of the ponies I've found have all had make-overs. Lipstick is the most common thing I've come across but one kid did get ambitious and gave Denim Blue some eye shadow.

Wow! Never would have thought that "rare" would ever be a word used to describe a G4 Pinkie Pie toy, that's for sure. I'm a bit shocked, actually. o-o

Knowing what she is now, it's such a shame her hair is an absolute frizzy mess. Not just tangles, either, the strands are all damaged and her tinsel may as well not exist. >: I'll certainly try my best to get her looking nice, though.
Lots of washing ahead? (I've managed to revive some real nasty hair with generous helpings of conditioner, there's still hope :>!!)

Most definitely. Not sure there's much hope for what's left of the tinsel, however. If there's really no help for her frizzy mess I guess I could always consider it a "Show accurate" hair style. XD

OMG  you are so lucky. she is a grail of many people here. i don't think she was released in many places, where are you from or what area did you find her.
Well I found her at Goodwill so I don't where she came from or what her story is before that. But I am in Southern Illinois. She's not floating around on the shelves in the area, though.

I've looked around on a few websites with no luck. Can anyone ID this odd-sized Pinkie? I found her at a goodwill and couldn't pass her up since I've never seen this size class of G4 before. >> If it's a fakie it's a convincing one. She's got the MLP logo stamped on her hoof as well as Hasbro copyright date of 2012.

I'd totally give my childhood self Party Time.  But why her? Why a pony with notorious regrind issues? Because she's right up childhood me's alley! I LOVED the lone Twinkle Eye I had as a kid, Masquerade. It wasn't just the gem eyes, though, I also loved her super bright highlighter colors. As a kid I wished I had other super-bright ponies so she could have a family. As for the "spots", I would have paid it no mind to them, if I even bothered to notice something like that as a child.

Found fashion style Miss Pommel and a fashion style Pinkie Pie at Walmart tonight in Northern IL.visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I found 'em in Southern Illinois, too! I'm so happy they're in stores now! I've been lazy about ordering one online and was seriously considering pulling the trigger for the ones on Amazon.

Pony Corral / Re: Jointed ponies: yay or "neigh"?
« on: February 05, 2016, 05:32:22 PM »
I like the jointed ponies we've gotten so far ( the new G4's are particularly creepy. XD) But I do have to agree they don't look the best. Personally I think that any type of jointed pony are always going to look weird or feel off since MLPs are designed to be static dolls that don't move much save for a head rotation. Even if  more thought and budget were put into them so they'd be more like action figures or ball jointed dolls they'd still have a ton of segmentation which might not jive too well with the various MLP styles. The only example I can think of are those highly articulated Pokemon figures. They're gorgeous l but if I look at them for too long the multiple joints become glaringly obvious and rubs me the wrong way.

Here's that D-Arts(?) Mewtwo from the back. x-x

And let's be honest, who wasn't expecting Cadance to have a baby to sell a baby princess toy as soon as you learned she was pregnant?
.....

I just saw the clip with Flurry.  I really wish they'd stick with the foal designs they made with Pound and Pumpkin Cake. Her eyes are too big (but cute on their own), her horn is too big and her wings are so big they're practically a birth defect (although I like the gradient).

I called it almost immediately after the wedding episode years ago. What else does one do with a newlywed royal couple in a girl's cartoon?  >>;

I'm glad they didn't reuse that same model for Flurry Heart they did for Pound/Pumpkin Cake. Don't get me wrong, I think they are as cute as can be, but she's supposedly an important character (for at least one episode or so anyway). I think it would seem pretty lazy on the part of the character designers to reuse some stock character models they've got lying around. Even lazier when some other ponies we will never see again and gag characters have distinct animation models.

Pony Corral / Re: Custom Rare Ponies?

I've seriously considered doing this for some G4's. Considering how rare or HTF unique G4 brushables seem to be nowadays x-x.... OK maybe I'm overreacting a bit.  >>; But it does seem like a fun project at the very least. Those 2-dollar bagged Main Six dolls are rampant in my area.

Found a G1 baby in a box free toys outside of  a second-hand shop. On a whim I asked if they knew if they had any more MLP/horse toys. They replied with "I think there were some in a box we just threw away out back" Needless to say I went dumpster diving and came back with over 5 free G1s that were in pretty decent shape.

Also, a couple months ago I found one of those light-up "Canterlot" Target exclusives randomly sitting on a peg at my local Target. It's not like it had been shelf-warming like some things do. It was just there out of the blue mixed in with the current merchandise. I was flabbergasted to say the least considering how old that line is. She was super-cheap, too, so I came home with a Shine Brite Pinkie Pie.

Pony Corral / Re: When isn't it worth it?

No matter how you go about it, it's gonna be costly because the materials you need for a restoration and a custom both cost a lot in general. If that bottom dollar and not loosing money is the only concern I suppose a custom is the better way to go but I'm still very pro-restoration. Maybe fixing her up might cost more but why not return her to her former glory anyway? This is a thirty-year-old toy that isn't getting any younger. Sure a near-mint is cheap now but what about further down the road? There will be a point in time that there aren't any more "5 dollar commons" for older pony generations. I consider them like antiques at this point. Sure it might cost a bit to fix it up but think of it as an individual piece as opposed to a bunch of dollar symbols. A restoration means that at the very least it still retains the essence and identity of the pony. Customs are very lovely and I will not deny the artistic labor and love that goes into making one but as far as a collector market is concerned I think a restoration could hold more value in the long run.

Oh..... a state-exclusive chain.... :C  That doesn't help me up in Seattle....

Or Illinois for that matter. >: But at least she's showing up in the states! Here's hoping these make their way to other stores.

Pony Corral / Re: Playing with your ponies
« on: January 07, 2016, 01:45:14 AM »
Spa days is really the most "play" I do for my ponies. Occasionally I may pick them up, mentally coo over how pretty they are and sweep their hair back into place if need be but that's about it. As far as I'm concerned they are display pieces that will not be messed with much. Don't get me wrong I still love collecting them but I don't enjoy them the same way I did as a child, that's for sure. I wasn't extremely rough with my toys by any means but even looking back on how I played with them as a kid is enough to make me cringe. G1 Sky Rocket had a few baths, matted hair, thrown on the floor, ect.
