Even with a new species introduced we're still stuck with toys of the Mane 6... That is so annoying ugh..

I don't have a problem with Megan or human characters in MLP.

Pony Corral / Re: How Did You Start Getting Into Other Gens?
« on: April 09, 2017, 02:13:51 PM »
I didn't grow up with MLP. I never saw the cartoons as a kid and my parents never bought me any ponies.
I first got into MLP because of G4/FiM.
Then I also saw pics of the toys from previous Generations on the internet and was convinced that I needed to have them too.
I've scourged through a lot of 2nd hand shops online, now most of my collection is G1 and G3.
Haven't been able to get into G2 since I rarely ever find them in the 2nd hand shops and since I don't care much for their 'skinny' look. I only have 2 G2s so far.

No.

I want G1 left alone-- besides random merchandise. I don't think a remake of the movie/cartoon would go over well. Everyone would pick it apart and complain because it wouldn't be done in a way they personally want.

Yeah, there's that too.  I think we'd see a bunch of threads about how Wind Whistler or Buttons or whoever is RUINED FOREVER because they were changed in a reboot.  But you can't expect characters to stay exactly the same in personality, sound of voice, or appearance when something reboots.  Just look at all the versions of Starscream.  He looks completely different from G1 to Transformers Armada to Transformers Prime.  And the Armada version isn't even a backstabber, which is usually the main trait people associate with him.

In a lot of ways I do consider G4 to be a defacto reboot of G1.  All of the ponies were originally based on G1 ponies, even if Applejack was the only one who squeaked through design-wise.  Spike is there.  It's a fantasy world full of dragons, etc. A lot of the locations were based off G1 playsets;  Cloudsdale was inspired by the G1 Waterfall, for example.  And Megan is absent, which makes it the perfect reboot for me, lol.

That Starlite's chin reminds me of Gaston.  I will say, though, that I think the designs there are much better than the previous reboot.  The one where Rainbow Brite looked uncomfortably like a Barbie doll and the horses had weeeeird proportions.

I'd take those horses over that...John K-esque abomination...

Re: the 'RUINED FOREVER' thing, not really a problem for me. Even if a new iteration of old Gen thing does not end up to my liking its still better than Hasbro acting like the previous generations never even existed. At least it's SOMETHING...(Case in point: The Loyal Subjects vinyls. Not really a fan but I still think it's good they're making them) And like Transformers, it's not like Hasbro ever forgot about the old G1 versions of Optimus, Bumblebee etc., when they made new ones. Even today toys and merchandise of G1 versions of Transformers characters are still being made and Hasbro still makes the effort to release new/updated toys of lesser known G1 characters..

Not really, no. I'd rather they do something new instead of screwing about with G1.

Well, like Transformers, throwbacks to older Gens can still coexist alongside with new stuff.

I still don't see why Hasbro isn't doing this with MLP.

Even the less popular franchise GI Joe gets stuff for its various iterations especially the first one.

When I was still interested in FiM/G4 way back I really was not bothered at all by the Celestia toys being pink (This was back when I still cared about show accuracy mind you) I'm still not. I don't like G4/FiM anymore now but even if I still did, pink Celestia toys still wouldn't bother me.
Which is weird since I'm usually annoyed and aggravated when girl toys force and overuse the color pink, but for some reason, pink Celestia has just never bothered me.

The term 'alicorn' has always bugged me too. I think 'pegacorn' makes more sense especially since not everyone is a nerd familiar with D&D terminology :P

I don't dislike her but I just don't get why G3 Minty is so popular and is the most popular of her Gen. Her colors and symbols are nothing special.

Pony Corral / Re: does anybody LIKE bbe ponies?
« on: March 28, 2017, 03:21:21 AM »
I like the 4 BBEs that I own although they are still far from being my favorites. I'm lucky that none of them have eye rust(yet, let's hope it stays that way)
I quite like the BBE unicorn mold, I think it's pretty cute. I only have Baby Ribbon and I would like to own a Baby Frosting and Gusty (any Gusty actually as I still don't have her or any variation of her) so long as they have no eye rust

Pony Corral / Re: Hopes for the future of MLP?...
« on: March 28, 2017, 03:09:21 AM »
This is just my honest opinion I do not mean any offense or hostility to those who are fans but my very honest hope for the future of MLP is the end of G4 and FiM altogether.
(Doesn't look like that'll happen soon though unfortunately for me)

Also for the return of characters from all of the previous generations especially G1. (though not all of them of course, having mostly new characters are still a must, just no more core cast focus)

I also hope for better quality control, and better design/color/symbol/theme choices, and of course, variety.

I hope that they go back to plastic ponies with brushable hair. No human forms. No blind bags. No ponies with molded hair. I just want ponies whose hair I can brush! lol

Same here

I want to live just long enough to see them cut off Rainbow Dash's head and put it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations being a db comes at too high a price.  I want to stare into her lifeless eyes and wave like this.

In all seriousness, I would like to see Hasbro feed the G1 nostalgia beast like they do the Transformers.  They could do it, but they seem to think MLP didn't exist before 2003 (and more and more 2010).

mood

(G1 TF fans don't know how good they have it is2g)

Pony Corral / Re: Molded vs Brushable Hair?
« on: February 22, 2017, 08:20:11 PM »
While having brushable hair is not what makes a pony MLP, it's still a nice thing to have, and is still a staple of the brand/franchise, a part of its "DNA" if you get what I mean.

Much like Transformers that don't transform, there is nothing wrong with MLPs w/ molded hair and they are needed for variety, HOWEVER, they should NOT overtake most or even half of the toys.

I don't see how having molded hair will make the toys more "gender-neutral", brushable hair is no more "girly" than pretty much every other characteristic the current toys already have.

Pony Corral / Re: MLP The Movie Brushables
« on: February 17, 2017, 06:37:02 AM »
I don't keep up with the MLP movie news so this is the first time I'm seeing them but man, I honestly dislike Songbird's and Tempest's designs. They look like generic/bad OCs.

Merponies look interesting, but how come the other one has molded hair? I know I'm already beating a dead horse (ahem) with this comment but only one of these "brushables" are actually...brushable.

The Dollhouse / Re: Mattel vs MGA: Who had the better doll lines?
« on: January 06, 2017, 12:09:24 PM »
2010 MGA hair was not good yeah. Never owned any Bratz from that year or any of the 1st wave Bratzillaz but I did have Moxie Girlz and not only was their hair bad, their clothing was flimsy and poor quality too.
Novi Stars don't have the best hair but I don't think their hair is particularly bad either.

I honestly think the new Barbies are a great idea that was very badly executed. Seeing them both irl and in photos their quality and clothing designs are terrible, and the nearly all of them have really bland boring face screenings especially when compared to older Barbies. Monster High's quality just kept waning over the years. EAH's quality was never even good to begin with IMO. Even with the 'detailed' accessories of their earlier dolls they have also always used really cheap poor-quality fabrics with questionable designs right from the very start and have always had really bad problems of glue head and wonky eyes. I'm personally not a fan of their faces either. I have to agree with Taxel that they were just MH's 'ugly stepsister'.
I don't know what happened exactly with Mattel financially but the quality of almost everything they've done recently has just been the worst IMO.

(sorry mods if I'm getting off-topic or inappropriate)

The Dollhouse / Re: What kind of doll collector are you?
« on: January 06, 2017, 11:36:19 AM »
I got into dolls back in 2011 with Winx Club and Monster High. I didn't get too much into buying Winx as I only own a handful of dolls. I was REALLY into MH for a while but that eventually stopped when the reboot happened. Not to mention their quality had already been waning for a while. The very last MH dolls I bought were 2 characters from Great Scarrier Reef. I still love the MH dolls that I own but I'm pretty much 100% done with Monster High now.
I also love Novi Stars and own 11 dolls. I am really very lucky that I managed to get the rare ones I wanted. It is really too bad they were discontinued.

I also own a few other dolls from various different lines.

Currently I am into 90s-2000s Barbies, Bratz, and occasionally Project Mc2.

While I have favorite lines to buy, I don't hold any 'loyalty' to any brand or company. I just buy what I like but I also stick to playline only.
High-end collectors' stuff is a not an option for me.
