Customs / Re: Dyeing ponies
« on: August 24, 2017, 11:52:50 AM »
I have used RIT both successfully and very Unsuccessfully. I won't use it anymore unless I am wanting to create gradients in places that I know I won't be painting like legs, ears, nose and only if I feel that the colours will fade nicely. I have had a couple of my customs look absolutely terrible after a couple of years due to fading and bleeding. Lemme see if I can find any pics of the specific one I am thinking of...

Okay, well I give That search up! XD Anyways, I don't recommend using RIT to dye. If you are only worried about brushstrokes I would recommend using a sponge technique to do a smooth FBR; I used this technique for these ponies and they turned out quite nicely,

Anyways, hope that was helpful, if not quite what you were looking for. :P

They look lovely. I think I will be trying sponge technique in the future.

You're not bothering anyone. It's fun to see what's in stores in other countries (even if I don't really follow g4)

We also have a ton of similar bootlegs in Estonia.

You could style them into curls with some straws and boiling water. Curls are great for hiding damage that is beyond repair. Other than that, some people have had success with fabric softener.

I would probably treat Shady just in case even if it does mean loosing the flocking. That kind of black mold is actually quite toxic so it's not good for you to breathe in possible spores from her.

D: oh dear. I might just put her and Moondancer in a sealed container and sell them as moldy baits... I don'thave access to anything that would remove mold for the foreseeable future. #dormlife

Thank you so much! I guess I'll just bait her, haha.

The other other ponies from the bags show no signs of mold, should I be worried about them as well?

If they don't look moldy, I don't think there is anything to worry about.

I hate her color scheme so much. The pose is bad too. I've had her in the past but quickly got rid of her, she's such an eyesore.

If it's Cottoncandy and Lemondrop, then it is not regrind. Could be dye from hot pink accessories. Do you know how to sunfade?

Which ponies? It is probably regrind. The plastic is breaking down. Nothing to do about it, sadly.

Thank you for pictures and comments! I wonder what makes the dye so unstable. I also wonder if there are real success stories at all or if it's all just a matter of time.

I'm not the biggest sea pony lover, and this one has a color combo I really dislike. Pass.

Customs / Dyeing ponies

I've understood that generally dyeing ponies with dyes like rit dye isn't recommended for customs, but I'd like to see some examples why. Are there any pictures of dyed ponies changing color or going bad in a different way?

It looks like agemarks which this pony is very prone to unfortunately. I don't think there is anything you can do for her.

Bouquet is not safe to sunfade unfortunately. Of course you can still give it a go if she's baity anyways, but there's a risk she will get worse.

It depends on which pony it is and what you have already tried. Sunfading is probably the best option for most off white ponies but there are some that tend to tan rather than whiten. Have you tried magic eraser yet? Sometimes the gray stuff can be just dirt.
