If you ever got a chance to watch these I would so recommend seeing Princess Mononoke and The Cat Returns. Out of all the studio Ghibli films I've seen those 2 are my favorite.

Those ponies came with a G3 book that had Welcome to ponyville on the front of the book. In the back of that book there was a bunch of figures and a mat. There was also other pony figures that came with them such as Starsong, Sweetie-Bell, Cheerilee, and Toola-Roola. To answer your question about will it play on US players it should. I have a DVD that was from Japan on an anime I liked years go and it played just fine on all DVD players I put it in. Also a former teacher of mine has a friend who owns theaters over seas sends her the discs once they are out of the movie theater there and they played just fine. So unless there's something wrong with the DVD you shouldn't have no problem with it playing. I hope your able to find the DVD your looking for.
