Customs / Re: Question about dying a pony
« on: June 13, 2016, 11:13:09 AM »
I'm not sure anyone has ever tried it. It seems like it might work if your glue is not water soluble.

Yeah, I haven't seen anything like that before either, but I think Kaoskat is right -- if you had some sort of glue that wasn't water soluble, that you could remove afterward.... I almost wonder if silicone caulking might work well?  After it's dry, it's not water soluble, but you could peel it off without too much trouble.

Yep, spray paint would work fantastic in that case!  If you want a solid color, your best choices are Krylon Fusion for Plastic or Rust-Oleum Specialty Plastic, as they're designed to adhere and bond better to plastic items.

If you're feeling a little fancier, you could also use Rust-Oleum Stone Creations spray, which creates a speckled and slightly textured stone effect.  I've been using the Bleached Stone and Pebble colors to customize a Playmobil castle for my ponies, and there is a learning curve to it, but the result looks lovely.  Here's an example:

BRB, getting all the egg cartons out of the fridge.

I guess that explains ponyfeathers, ponies are actually birds!

Galactica, that is a super cute story!

These are absolutely lovely Violet!  G4 Bonnie Bonnets is on my to-do list as well, and anyone that makes a Bouncy custom is awesome in my book! (she was my first G1 when I was 5 and I am still rather partial to her).  Great work as always!

Question for you-  were the articulated ponies any particular challenge to re-root?

Haha, I just saw your post in the articulated thread and gave a response there!   Short version is that the heads are the same as regular G4 heads, but the tails require dismantling to replace.

How easy is it to re-root these?

The heads are made of the same material as normal G4 heads, so you can use any method you would normally use on them.  The tails are a little trickier, since you probably want to dismantle them to remove the old tail.  I do have a tutorial in the Customs forum (thread located here) that shows how to take them apart to completely replace a tail.

More are on the way!

I'm ridiculously excited about this, but mostly because of customizing

Oooo I love your G1-from-G4 customs! Who do you have planned next? :)

Haha, thanks!  I ordered a bunch of the "basic" ones from Taobao, especially Pinkie Pie because I don't need a million swan boats!   Once they get here I have a few planned, mostly more G1 -> G4, like Bonnie Bonnets, North Star, Crumpet, as well as G2 Sky Skimmer.  I have a couple other dioramas in progress and they just work so much better in that setting, imo.

Arts & Crafts Corral / G4 Diorama -- Outdoor Concert!
« on: March 23, 2016, 02:10:44 PM »
Hey guys!  I thought I would share a diorama for some of my G4's that I've been working on in bits for a while, but finally finished.  It's an outdoor concert!  I originally got the idea when I noticed a really cool Playmobil concert stage, and started building from there.

Here's a shot of the whole thing.  It takes up a shelf that measures about 12" x 22" or so:

Here's the stage by itself.  The stage is Playmobil 5602, the Pop Stars Stage, and the guitars, microphones, drum set, and speakers were all included with it.  Fluttershy is wearing a custom dress made from two different ribbons:

At the back, Cheerilee is buying popcorn from Caramel Crunch (the popcorn wagon is Sylvanian Families, set Mi-68):

And Sugar Sweet is selling a veggie dog to Lotus Blossom (the hot dog stand is Playmobil, but I'm having trouble finding the number at the moment and think it may be discontinued):

Kimono and Wisteria are enjoying a bite to eat while watching the concert, and Vinyl Scratch came to cheer Octavia on:

A bunch of G1 girls got together to enjoy a picnic at the concert (picnic set is from the Lil Woodzeez):

And those are the pictures!  If you have any questions about anything, let me know!  :)

Customs / Lots of new G1 -> G4, plus a couple OC's
« on: March 23, 2016, 01:57:10 PM »
Hi guys!  I hope everyone is doing well!  I just finished a diorama for a bunch of G4's of an outdoor concert and sat down to take pictures of it (thread coming to the Arts and Crafts Corral shortly!) when I realized I had a bunch of customs that I hadn't shown off!  Some of these have had previews in other threads, but some of these guys are totally new as well.  Hope you enjoy!

G1 -> G4 articulated Tickle, one of my first articulated custom experiments -- her hair is decorated with paper roses that I painted the edges gold on:

G1 -> G4 Sugarberry -- those strawberries took a while!  They're all drawn with watercolor pencils, which is the same way I've been doing the eyes lately:

G1 -> G4 Caramel Crunch, who runs the popcorn stand at the concert:

And G1 -> G4 Sugar Sweet, who runs the veggie dog stand:

G1 -> G4 Moondancer, who was actually completed before she showed up in the cartoon, but I was unhappy with her eyes so I wiped them and redrew them:

This is an OC named Lynette, who in my brain runs the hair salon with G1 Ribbon -- she started out as an experiment to dye the joints of articulated ponies and just grew from there:

And of course in that case I need G1 -> G4 Ribbon also  :

Another OC named Wild Rose -- I bought a prepped bait from Barbed Dragon ages and ages ago that had a gorgeous brown and light blue gradient.  She was pretty much finished for about a year, at least, but I finally got some paper flowers recently that I thought would be fantastic for her:

G1 -> G4 articulated Wind Whistler, who has made an appearance in a couple of other threads:

And here wearing a custom dress, which I posted a tutorial for in the Arts and Crafts Corral as well.  My plan at the moment is to make a North Star custom with a similar dress, then they can go chill at my big castle diorama together being all fancy:

And one of my favorites, G1 -> G4 articulated Blueberry Baskets.  She started as one of those "action" Rainbow Dashes, but the mouth was too perfect, so instead she gets to carry around a custom basket of blueberries!

Whew!  That was a lot of pictures!  Thanks for taking a look, and hopefully you enjoyed them!

I can NOT get my Coco open... I might just need to get a new one, which makes me sad.

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that!  Some of them seem pretty easy to pry open, and some much harder.  You really have to jam your cutting tool into the seam line, then kind of wedge it open.  My Tickle custom ended up with some pretty bad damage to the plastic under her tail in the process, because she definitely didn't want to cooperate!

Oh. my. god. these dresses are AWESOME:biggrin:

I don't know if I hate you or love you right now for figuring out all the things I struggled with for months.

Anyways, these are amazing, and I'm gonna try out your pattern.

Thank you so much for sharing!

  I'm so glad you like it!  I've noticed all the cool dresses you've posted, and you do some fantastic work!  If you try out the pattern and have any questions or find something confusing, please let me know!  :)
