Pony Corral / Different laces on the wedding dress. Enlighten me.
« on: July 11, 2013, 04:08:35 AM »
I've just noticed that there are two different laces on the G1 wedding dress. I had a dress that I got in a lot from a Swedish seller, who I think was selling her childhood ponies. So, that wedding dress must have been from the European version. However, I've seen a few Confettis with a different lace.

Here's a Confetti that was sold on Etsy. The seller says she has been stored in the attic so it sounds like it's someone's childhood pony, that should have her original accessories.

Also, do all veils have that silver detail that looks like a crown? Did some come without it, is it just hard to tell from some photos or has it gotten lost in play? So, different releases? If there are similar differences on Satin n' Lace I'd like to know that too. Tell me more, please. :)

About this, has anyone tried using loose glitter for nails? Shouldn't that be one of the finest glitters around? Or maybe it's hard to find for normal consumers. I have a Powder that I need to touch up the symbols on but I have to get rid of her stinking smell first...

Pony Corral / Re: Pony mane tips?

If it's tangled, water and conditioner and combing it when wet (with the conditioner left in) will help. (I usually wash it with shampoo first.)  I use a plastic comb for humans. The only thing I have to say is: try to keep the water away from the base of the mane, it can cause mould if it gets stuck there. So, try to stay away from the base and dry it thoroughly with a towel. After doing this for a while, I would say, if you don't have to do anything with your ponies, don't. Cleaning their bodies with baby wipes is really good too. No risk of water getting into the pony. If the hair is soft and just needs to be styled into a regular G1 straight hairdo (eg. non curly collector's pose ponies), you can wrap the dry mane around the neck with tinfoil and let it sit for a couple of days.

Starting out I mainly used ponylandpress' styling info but I wouldn't recommend washing a pony under running water like that. But that's where I found out about wrapping paper towels around the pony's head to style the hair. http://www.ponylandpress.com/care/salon/styling.shtml  There are a couple of other guides too on the internet, of course.

The comb I use looks something like this. Finer than a pony comb. Someone said it was good to use a comb solely for ponies since the oil from human hair could get into the ponies' hair and that was not good.

Many thanks.  :)

So, this thread is a couple of weeks old but it was actually this thread that got me interested in Tootie Tails. She doesn't look like my other ponies, they're all light pastel but she's so 80's with those colours and eye-shadow! (Even though she's from the late 80's.)

My thought / question is, does anyone have a photo of her with her factory curls? Not sure what I should do with mine that I just got. Should I try to make the hair straighter or try to curl it?

Great job! Keep an eye on Gingerbread, she can burn / get discoloured in the sun. I managed to sunfade some spots off mine but her colour that had been exposed to the sun changed a bit to a not so white shade. Managed to save her before it got worse.

Pony Corral / Re: What Inspired You to Begin Collecting MLPs?
« on: June 30, 2013, 04:50:18 AM »
I grew up with G1s. A couple of years ago I spent a lot of time on the humour site 9gag and they had a lot of nostalgic posts for those young in the '90s, captioned with "'90s kids will know". I started thinking, well what about the '80s? I intended to make an '80s post on my own and started googling for pictures, when I came to MLP I got sidetracked. :) I spent most of my time on ponylandpress because it's quite user friendly in that you can scroll through pictures of ponies and find out their names and when they were released easily - key word here is pictures :). This also led me to check out eBay, "OMG you can buy ponies?!" I also found out about the arena and the trading post and realised people actually collected them. Before I knew it I had dug out all of my childhood ponies and I had six ponies on the way that I had bought - eBay, Etsy and the trading post. That was almost two years ago. For me it's mainly a nostalgic thing but I also like the G1s I never saw when I was little, either because they weren't sold in my area or they were released after I had stopped playing with them, which should be around 1988 when I was 9.

Pony Corral / Re: How long were each "wave" of G1s sold in stores?

I was born in '79. This thing about ponies sitting on the shelves until they were sold and then they ordered new ones makes me wonder if this is why I never saw any twinkle eyed ponies when I was little. Maybe they missed that set? They were sold here though I've been told but I never saw any in my town. I had three MLP mugs (still do) as a child, two with twinkle eye ponies (Fizzy and Whizzer) and I never understood why the eyes looked so weird. I honestly didn't find out about twinkle eyed ponies until I started collecting, almost two years ago. The only "strange" ponies, as in "that's not what a pony is supposed to look like", I remember from when i was little were the princess ponies and the wingers.

She was one of the first ponies I got when I started collecting. I didn't know she looked that good de-flocked.

Pony Corral / Re: Pony hunting in Sweden?
« on: June 20, 2013, 02:53:18 AM »
I would like to know this too. :|  I have seen a few fakies and a cabbage patch pony at Helping Hand in Uppsala, That's a second hand shop owned by a free church. I asked at an antique shop once and he said that they sometimes have ponies, though I have never seen any there. I've never seen any at Myrorna. Think we call thrift shops second hand shops "in Swedish" (except for the word shop then), in case you want to google. And I'm sure you already know about our auction site tradera.

I just realised I know of one myself. I was browsing various eBay-sites about a week ago. Unfortunately I didn't take a print screen but someone was selling Wave Runner, on one of the eBay sites in German (the language, not the country), and described her as having small birds on her body. ^.^

I can't believe he made the flags for the Dream Castle, that's so fantastic! They're all fabulous gifts but the fact that he tracked down all of the pieces for the castle and then decided to make the flags himself when he couldn't find them is my favourite part of this story. Congrats!

My first pony was Moonstone. I have her accessories as well, not sure about the ribbon though. I just realised that this is the only photo I have of her (btw I think I considered her a bit of a him when I was little) and it's not from the DS. Think I have to dig her out and take proper photos...

That's wonderful. How nice to get someone's childhood ponies, congrats. Those two are some of my favourites, especially Bright Eyes. Good job!
