In general, I really don't mind re-used accessories. They're usually fairly basic pieces, like the hightops that we get from time to time, or a somewhat non-descript hoops or bangles. They're usually a different color, so it's almost like being new (who here has undies or sneakers in the same style but different colors? ME!). Most doll lines have a boring re-used design for a lot of their stuff. I think we're lucky to have so much variety.

Now, I will say that I'm disappointed to see PD Operetta re-using a mask. Not that I mind the re-cast (it's black, not white or purple), but because the spider web design in the promo pic is so much cuter!

As far as GNO Lagoona goes... I don't mind her outfit. I think it's cute. I just wish it was what she was wearing for PD and that she had something more like the other girls. PD is still a big mess, although that pic of her in box is far cuter than the promo pic. I was pretty sure it was the angle making her look so wretched, but it's still a sloppy/busy design, in my opinion

animal_lover, from what I understand, Mattel doesn't take ideas from outside sources. If you wanted to work with them you'd have to be employed by them first.

This. Mattel never takes suggestions from emails. If they did, they would have tons of 12-year-olds going "CAN U MAKE MY OC?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!" (Actually, they probably get emails like that already, anyway...)

Hmm. I can understand that. But if I went in depth with this, and gathered evidence, information, everything i could to show them it would be a profitable idea, would they at least consider it? And maybe i try to go directly to the source rather than just through fan mail or whatever.

Mattel and similar companies do not accept ideas from outside sources, like PandaBerry said. They've even said as much when they have been contacted by people here. There are too many copyright issues. You might be able to contact "the source", but typically that arm of the corporation only interacts with other companies, and it's usually for merchandising. New characters and lines would be considered "intellectual property" and companies want to keep that in-house.

Something else to consider is that something like this would be a rather big break from the main franchise. It would require focus groups, and lots of research, not just making queries on fan boards. Fan boards shouldn't be discounted, of course; I know for a fact that Mattel reads the original MH board on LJ. But it's just a small part of where they get their data. Even if they were to take a concept from an outside source, I'm not sure if you have the resources to collect the necessary information. Just based off of what you've posted here; my apologies if I'm wrong :)

The final issue is whether or not a college setting would sell. It's a concept that a large portion of their target audience wouldn't be able to relate to. High school is far away enough to be "glamorous" to middle schoolers, but still relatable. Even outside the child/tween market, high school is something almost everyone has experienced; college is not. It's part of the reason that so much popular media avoids using it as a setting; shows either focus on a high school setting, or a "real world/career" setting.

Of course, this is all just coming from a random forum poster :P If you want to do the legwork and then contact Mattel, you don't need my "permission" lol. Just a little insight that might save you some time :)

Oh, it needs more than a day to properly set the curl. I usually leave mine in three days or so. I've never had much issue with the bangs popping up; but try to dunk, comb down and then rubber band a paper towel around her head while it drys. Also, do you use ice water after the boiling water treatment? That will help set it too.

Aww, thanks :)

Yeah, the book coming to life was very hokey. I think it would have worked just as well for misfortune to randomly happen to the book, without it being sentient.

Really? How long do you leave the pins in for? I find that saran does come undone over time (without product), but I've gone several weeks before it starts to fall. I usually leave the pins in for a few days. I also toss my dolls in the freezer for a bit, while the hair is still wet.

Dang. >,>; If that's the case I HOPE They release this special as a DVD and include the short along with it.

It looks like it is supposed to be included in the Scaris movie release. Of course, if you're curious, you can click the link and watch it now :P

The still clip everyone keeps mentioning (with the Yeti and Heath) is from "From Fear to Eternity" which is a short that was supposed to air after the special. For whatever reason, it wasn't actually shown in the states. However, I did find a version of the movie on Youtube that includes it here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dwd822d-HWo

It's decent video quality (actually recorded, not a camcorder pointed at the screen) but the sound is pretty jacked. I was still able to understand it, mostly. It's rather cute, shows the gang's adventures on their way home from Scaris, and gives Jinifire and Skelita a little more dialogue and screen time. It starts at about the 43:10 mark.

I've boiled her side curls (where the orange is) and I boiled the back piece straight. The curls on the side didn't hold as well as I had hoped, but I also removed my curlers earlier than I normally would. The back piece would most likely curl with a boil perm, since it feels like saran; it took beautifully to straightening when I did it. But it's really thick and heavy, which sometimes tends to pull a curl down over time. I use a light mousse in Lagoona's curls, which helps it keep, but I know some people don't like using product in their doll's hair.

I actually love the shave-  it is so unusual for a doll, makes her so much more unique and interesting- and matches her somewhat "punk" style.

This! I adore Venus' shave. I wouldn't mind some variations (both sides shaved, the flocking green instead of pink, different colors mixed with the green, etc), but I think the side shave is really unique and and suits her style.

It was nice to finally understand what the characters were saying in the latest webisode. I watched the Polish version, but I had to make up what they were saying in my head :p I will say, i prefer the voice of the Polish version of Rochelle. It was softer and less "French Abbey". It was exactly how I pictured her sounding.

Oooh, and Billy! I neeed him! I hate that they introduce these awesome guy characters and then make us wait for eons to get the dolls. And he's technically been around since the beginning; he was used in the first series of the books. I wonder how many of the characters outside of the original set were in development from the start of the franchise.

Not at all. I love their unique bodies; the arched spine and foot, the long legs, the tiny waist and the full hips. It's very different from other lines on the market, although the majority of doll lines seem to be diversifying even within their own brands. Also, I find the majority of Bab's clothes to be a bit... pedestrian, and skewed towards pink glitter. Even the nicer, more fashion-forward pieces have a "catalog" look, while MH is a bit more editorial, in my opinion :)

Sashabella comes in her own case, whereas the other four come as an assortment. So if stores don't order her case, you won't see her. Most of the stores by me carry all the 'zillaz, but a couple of them have Sashabella in a different location. Not sure why, but I've seen the same issue with the La Dee Da dolls too. If you grab her item number (which will vary based on the retailer), you can check and see if your local stores are carrying her. I know Target will price match TRU, and I believe Walmart does as well; if your TRU isn't stocking her, you should still be able to get her for the same price at another retailer.

Ack bought that 2nd Jinafire and I finally got to opening her after contemplating if I should or not, and I LOVE HER So much!! I want to keep her hair the way it is and not take it down, if I were to straighten it, could I still pour hot water over her head like it is and brush the straight part straight without ruining anything??

Ahhh I think I AM Turning into one of those people who have to buy a 2nd just open up!! :freak: (Not that there's anything wrong with it) I'm slowly being dragged deeper and deeper into the abyss than I already am and my resistance is slowly weakening!! >,<;

Expect some pictures later maybe. :P

Has anyone ever had this happen to them where your heart skips a beat because you think you see what you're looking for on the shelf, but it turns out it isn't? It happens to me more often than it should. XD I get way too excited when it comes to doll hunting and set myself up for disappointment.
That's happened SEVERAL Times to me. lol Always ends with me dropping a huge F bomb in my head. >,>;

As long as it isn't a real mess, I sometimes use a doll comb and a cup of  very hot water to straighten hair. I did it with my Jin; I took the hair ornament out while I was doing it, but I just kept combing hot water through her hair until I straightened out the crimps. Then I take a piece of paper towel and slowly squeeze out the water. Sometimes it takes several runs, but it's usually successful. I did the same thing with my Venus too, since I didn't want to get her flocking wet.

I thrid a desire for DotD re-release! I love the line so much!!! I have none of them as of yet, but I really, really want Deuce! He is such a fantastic doll.

I was wondering the other day (I do think about other things than MH honest!) why is it that there are like... three swim lines for MH. Now why have three different versions of swimsuits? Is it because that is an easy way to make a playline doll? I do't really like swimsuit dolls at all and I don't really care for any of those lines. I hope it will be a while before they make yet another swimsuit line.

Swimsuit dolls are fairly common in doll lines. They're inexpensive, and there are several styles you can make without having to come up with a complex new theme. They usually get released around the holidays (November-ish), so the company can have an affordable option on shelves for gift-giving; as well as post-holiday grabs when people tend to spend less.

I'm sorry, but I just find it really silly that they are doing the same 1600 dolls again. Clawd, I get that, I'm excited about him cause I want him. But the girls are still sitting on shelves around here. Why couldn't they do some other girls for the line and re release Clawd? Just not really getting it..

Yeah... I find it really surprising that they'd bring this line back when it seems like it hasn't been selling all that well. Why do the signatures get taken off the shelf in a relatively quick time line while 1600 sticks around for over a YEAR. Unless these are new dolls, but that would also be a bit strange to have a second wave so much later.

Signature lines seem to disappear quickly because they all share the same product code. So as Mattel changes out the characters, the stores continue to order using that number. Themed lines tend to have a unique code, so unless there's a case refresh, you'll see the same dolls on the shelf until they're sold through.

DotD was an unusual scenario. The wave 2 shared the same product code, but a LOT of stores didn't get them. Not sure if it was just an early franchise fluke, or if stores just didn't order that number anymore because they had tons of the first ones shelf-warming.

I do find it odd that the 1600 line is being re-released almost a year later. Clawd makes sense because he was removed early on, and the popularity of the boys has grown since then. But it would have made more sense (to me anyway) to release different dolls if they needed to continue with the 1600 line. We have art for Lagoona and Ghoulia; Cleo is there too, although she looks like she's sporting her GR outfit. But it couldn't be that hard to give her a new outfit that fits the theme.

A couple of pics have shown up in my contacts so I figured I'd share them. While I like that they went with brown for Rapunzel's hair, I am not too impressed with the line in general. Maybe they will be good body donors. I'm also disappointed that Pocahontas wasn't shown and makes me wonder if she was canceled.

Nope, she's slated to be part of the second wave.
