Okay, so this is NOT advise. I was just reading your post and something occurred to me. What do they use in teeth whitening toothpaste? That stuff is made for smokers and coffee drinkers to remove whatever made their teeth yellow -- could this toothpaste be used on ponies? Seriously, I know it's a weird idea, but I'm just throwing out there. Feel free to tell me it's completely insane.

According to the all-knowing google, The whitening ingredient in toothpaste is usually peroxide as well as some abrasive crud in it to literally scrub off stains as well as the layer of  enamel on your teeth. o-o

I know most folks are going to complain that she's not show accurate or anything, but, I actually like that Applejack has that red in her hair. Also, that artwork for Daisy Dreams is lovely, too. Nice to see they put a little effort into not making her just a recolor of one of the main characters.

I am not going to advise on the peroxide - I dont like using it on ponies directly to fade. Too many things can go wrong and too many horror stories over the years.

This may sound like an odd question but where in the world are you? You need to get the yellowing itself exposed to the sun - have you tried that?
I've heard about hair bleeding and i figured paint apps may be at risk over prolonged periods of time, but o-o what kinds of other horror stories? Also, I guess it's good that I didn't decide to just submerge the doll into a bucket of peroxide, then.

I'm in the central US.  And I've not tried putting the figure in the sun without the peroxide towels. Also, if it's the UV radiation would a UV lamp or bulb have a similar effect? Perhaps to shine it on the figure at night or maybe when it's rainy and overcast (which is what it has been like in my area about every other day for the last week or two.)

I am sorry to hear that she is so stained from smoke! That must be disgusting >_<

I do not know much about the peroxide thing as I have never tried it but I know we have some experts here that can help you with that :)

It is indeed gross. x-x I've got another pony in about the same condition. Although this one is a fakie that came from my grandmother's house YEARS ago. Some unicorn with translucent what used to be clear plastic with silver glitter imbedded in it. Years later and even a few various baths later she still smells like smoke.

However, the week-long peroxide towels seems to have gotten rid of or at least masked the smoke odor on Denim Blue for the moment. Not that peroxide smells any better, though.

So one of my first restoration projects I'd like to do is to fix up a G3 Denim Blue. At first I was going to bait her out for a custom but she seemed too nice. Hair was still fine as was her symbol. Aside from a "makeover" some kid gave her (which still hasn't all come off yet ><) the biggest issue is yellowed plastic. Unfortunately she's yellowed (or rather tanned) due to being in a smoky environment. Got her from a second-hand store so the only reason I know this is because the doll smelled heavily of cigarette smoke. I read that Hydrogen Peroxide in the sunlight should lighten the plastic so I opted for that first. I threw some peroxide-soaked paper towels on her (to avoid getting peroxide on her hair), wrapped her in plastic and I've had her in sunny places for well over a week now.  I inspected her a bit ago and she doesn't seem to have gotten noticeably better, if at all. I'm sure a week is far too short, though. Should I keep doing the paper-towel thing or just go straight for the Hydrogen Peroxide soak? Or is trying to lighten her with peroxide a futile effort since the yellowing is caused by smoke?

What would really make it easier to find tutorials is deciding on what you want them to look like and what you'd want to make the ears out of. Narrow it down by what materials you would like to use, what kind of budget you have and how much time you'd want to put into the project.  Plush ears? Headband with unstuffed fabric ears? Solid mold ears?

Second, I worry about what will happen to it in the future.  If it leaks for some reason it's going to make a mess.  I figured it must have some kind of gel and/or water and I'm not interested in cleaning it up.

As tempting as they are, I've passed on them for that reason, too. I've always heard that translucent plastic is more prone to breaking down and becoming more brittle compared to others. So that could cause leakage, too, if that glue on the seals doesn't break down first. Also, I'm not sure what that fluid is in there but I also wager that will dry out or evaporate over time. Once that happens the appeal of a snowglobe pony is totally lost. You'll be stuck with yet another Celestia-Luna-Cadance-Twilight with a gimmick that isn't even there anymore. Maybe if they had made them totally different characters instead of the ones they've produced a million times already I'd be more inclined to buy one. It'd be like "Well she's not a snowglobe anymore but at least I still have Princess Winter Winds. She was never released in any other set and she is still pretty."

Using Acetone to clean off dirt on my ponies. I did this when I first seriously started collecting a few years ago. My thought process was "Dang This Acetone REALLY gets off more dirt than a warm scrub does!" I knew it stripped paint off beforehand. I tried to be careful and avoid it but I've smeared some paint on a couple dolls when my hand accidentally slipped. A G2 Light Heart Happy Meal figure is missing paint on her mane and a G3 Rainbow Dash with a pearl necklace printed on her is missing part of her symbol. I've since learned it's just way too risky to try and use it on the whole pony. Just save it for tougher stains. Oh, and pulling on my doll's hair way too hard to remove tangles as a kid. Who knows how much hair I pulled out doing that. If I could go back in time, I would kick myself for treating their manes and tails that way.

I've not even seen the newer Rainbow Dash in my area. Newest Fashion Styles I've spotted are the Through the Mirror Celestia and Luna.

Also is the Applejack supposed to be in that same wave as Daisy Dreams?

Not the biggest fan of the Pop! pony figures but I do have to agree that the Celestia and Discord are definitely adorable! Celestia is certainly tempting.

xD That one with Beta Ray is hilarious. And it's actually provided me with a bit of inspiration, too. >>;

Edit:

We should start a Permanent Silly Picture Thread!

o-o That's not a bad idea! That way there's one nice forum where people could post all sorts of random photos. I have a few I could contribute.

XD That's awesome! The expression on Wreck-Gar's face makes it even better. He seems a bit puzzled. "Now why was THAT in my backpack?"

Hi, Shimmer Mist! Welcome to the arena!

I really love the drawing you did in your avatar, maybe you can make a topic in the art forum sometime and share your work! I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun customizing, I did once I got the hang of it. Enjoy the forums!

:3 Thank you! And an art thread isn't a bad idea. I've just need to find some that are presentable. ^^; Almost everything I've drawn is noting more than rough, messy sketches.

I have no idea which one was my first pony chronologically. I do know I've had a Sparkle Sky Rocket for as long as I can remember. I also fondly remember her being my favorite and playing with her the most. I still have her, too! Although she needs to be cleaned up a bit. >:  She's got rust all on her insides and I'm still too afraid to try and clean her.

I've got a few oddities in my own collection as well.

Paint- error Celestia.  It's a little eerie the longer you stare at it.
