Pony Corral / Re: Backgrounds when photographing ponies? Please show me!
« on: February 10, 2012, 10:37:36 AM »
I tend to photograph outside, or against a simple fabric backdrop.. If you get too creative, it can detract from the pony, is how I feel about it.

Whatever you do, keep it simple so your pony stands out :)

Man.. This is the first time I have ever seen them. I wish I had found them ages ago. They would have been great to practice on, or to use when I wanted a white base.

I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that Hasbro added a blank MLP to their toy shop.. She looks like a G3, but she is white with a white mane and tail. No paint on her at all. It says they are taking preorders and she will be available around 3/5

"Have you always wanted a blue-and-white striped pony? Or a disco-ball pony? How about a pony with your name on it? Well, now's your chance to design and decorate your very own one-of-a-kind pony design with this all-white pony figure. The same size as the standard MY LITTLE PONY figures, try using markers, paint, glue, glitter, and anything that will stick to the pony figure. It's your pony to design any way you like! Buy a bunch and create your own pony collection, plan a party where everyone gets to decorate their own pony, or keep a few on hand for craft projects. Ages 3 and up."

Just curious as to what everyone thinks about this.

Wanted! / Re: Can you find on sale Target exclusive ponies?
« on: February 10, 2012, 01:28:49 AM »
The target stuff looks familliar and there is a target near my house. If you still need these I'd be happy to see if they have them. I'm just unable to purchase them myself right now due to money stuff. So I'd need a PayPal advance to do it. Not the ideal situation I know, but its an option open to you if you need :)

Customs / Re: Rehairing Question on G3s
« on: February 09, 2012, 08:18:12 PM »
Oddly enough, not all of them are super hard. Just most of them.

Like Cookhuman, I also widen the holes. I have used a sculpting awl to poke holes in one from head to toe to make a wookie pony (WIP). It's tedious, but the holes are smaller and tighter than the original hair seams anyway. When I rehair it (what little i have done) or rehair any pony for that matter, I insert the awl into the hole to widen it, while I load my rehair tool. Then I pull the awl out and insert the tool. The vinyl starts to shrink back to it's normal size right away, but it stays stretched long enough for you to do the job, and it really saves on needles.

I just did a test patch on my just started wookie pony by smearing some on with my finger without diluting it. I cant even tell where I put it on just by looking. Nice. Now to wrap some hair around it and boil perm it and see what happens. Im wondering if I will still wind up with the lines.

I have used some acrylic sealers in the past.. Liquitex Gloss Varnish is the stuff I used last, and I really disliked it because it tended to dry slightly sticky. Over time, any pony I had used it on tended to collect dust and look dirty. I've just never found anything that dried 100% non sticky.

I'm hesitant to use the Mod Podge as a sealer because in the jar, it is so white.. I would be afraid it would not dry clear. It does sound like we have the same thing.. Mine says "Waterbase sealer, glue, and finish"..  kCherry, how thin do you dilute it before using it? I'll have to grab some bait and test it out myself since it's seeming like this may be a good way to go. I have seen quite a few people mention using it also.

For Trade / Trading Your G3's for My G1's
« on: February 09, 2012, 12:59:21 PM »
Edit 2/23/12 - I have an offer pending for all remaining G1 ponies, so these MAY be all gone. Not sure.

I have the following G1 ponies available to trade out for adult G3 ponies to customize. I really don't want cash for them.  I wouldn't know how much to charge... I just want more adult G3s to customize.

Here is what I am offering:

Some Pegasi

.

More earth ponies
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Some of these ponies have mild tail rust. I know Applejack has it, but Im not sure of the others. None of them have it super bad. I dont think any of them have anything horribly bad about them. They all need a good cleaning. Most of them have pretty rough hair. They all need some TLC.

If you would like any of them, please let me know. Be sure to describe them, because I don't know names :)  Make me an offer of G3 adult ponies to trade for them. I really don't want any G3 babies..

In fact, I'll add a G3 baby MIB to this list. Her name is Penny Candy. I dont have a picture, but shes still in her box. She has a little bonnet. The box has very minor warping along the bottom edge, but is in pretty good condition. I'll take offers of G3 adults for her too.

I think this one is covered.
I was hoping to find someone willing to sew me a plushie Fluttershy, in trade for a customized pony of your choice. I'll customize it however you like, even if it requires a full body apoxie job that takes a month to make.
I'm looking for a plushie that really captures my heart. I see a lot that, while cute, just dont really do it for me. So I would love to see pictures if you have them available.. And I beg that you not be offended if I decline.Thank you in advance for your considerations. Examples of my work can be found at my Tumblr by clicking the banner below.

I must not be aware of some sort of sealer Mod Podge makes.. I just have a jar of their Matte-Mat which I use to secure rooted hair. What specifically do they call the sealer? KNowing my luck its "Sealer"  >_<

Some ponies I do not seal, and some ponies I do. When I do, I have been using the Testors brand clear gloss.

You know the classic sexy lingere Christmas Present type outfit? Basically, a girl with ribbon wrapped around her strategically, and a bow?

Take that idea and make it rated G.

Have a pony with ribon wrapped around it like a package. Either real ribbon, or painted on ribbon.. Have the ribbon end at the tail, and do a tail of curled ribbons in the color of the ribbons around the pony, or make a bow for the tail out of tightly curled ribbons.  You could just do the hair in tight shirley temple ringlets so they look like curled ribbon too.

Party Pony!

Heh. You know, now I cant remember if I was told 3 months or 6 months..  A search of my old emails shows that it was 3 months. I think they had been out of it for about 3 months so far, so my brain added it together.  It was Jan 23rd that I found this out. Hope thats helpful :)

Customs / Hair Styling Questions
« on: February 09, 2012, 12:05:42 PM »
For the longest time, I was a fan of using Katsilk hair and leaving it straight, because it was easy. Then I realized how pretty I could get hair by using a boil perm.. Then I started doing full body repaints and I realized there was a flaw in my plans..

When doing a boil perm with a full body repaint, the hot water softens the paint and the hair presses down into it (Especially if I do a neck wrap), leaving creases in the paint. Sometimes it discolors the paint and I have to spend time doing touch ups and trying not to get it in the hair..

So my question to all of you is: How do you style your ponies hair if it has a full body repaint, and you don't want to leave it straight?
