Pony Corral / Re: Hasbro is releasing FIREFLY - The Transformer
« on: December 05, 2014, 12:39:56 PM »
Lots of the time the name changes and inconsistencies have to do with what they can or cannot trademark and copyright. It doesn't mean that Hasbro just doesn't care. I'm sure they would LOVE to own the rights to that specific name for that specific category of toy or however the finicky details work out. With Generations and the TF brand as a whole doing well, I'm sure they care more now than they did a few years ago. Quite a few of their trademarked names they let slip through and they probably had to settle for what was closest. For a company, 2008 is a LONG time ago... if they hadn't planned on doing anything with "fireflight" they could have let it slip. Some figures and toylines are planned as far as two years prior to their release and whatnot but even for 2008, Combiner Wars was probably still a LONG way off... It wasn't that long ago designers had said combiners weren't doable for modern figures and now we're getting a whole toyline of 'em. Also, the Aerialbots aren't necessarily the highest tier characters nor are they the most popular even among combiners so it's not surprising Fireflight isn't exactly the same.

Seriously how hard would it be to do a set of G4 "classics" - think of how well those would sell, and how adorable they'd be...

I do, however, have to agree with this. It  would be easy for them but I'm sure it's about like  "G4 is so popular the way it is why should we focus on the old stuff?"

I've got a little bit of experience volunteering at a wildlife rehab. I'm nowhere near an expert but I have learned a few things about feeding little baby mammals. You'll definitely need to put it a LOT of time with those babies.

If you are using a syringe/dropper: Be careful not to over feed them! Just because they keep eating doesn't mean that they aren't already full. Check their bellies! Keeping 'em well fed is good, but sometimes hungry babies will keep eating because it can take a few minutes for their brains to register they are full. Be sure they aren't inhaling the milk! This can happen when you are give them too much too fast or your pace is faster than they are swallowing. Take notice whether or not they are actively swallowing/lapping. They don't always spit it, dribble, or refuse more milk once they are full. Even if the milk is going down it doesn't necessarily mean it's going into the esophagus/belly.  That milk will get into their lungs and they can die. >:

EDIT: Also, I'd try to find some sort of milk replacer that's closer to the species you are feeding it too! The formula you are giving them is everything! Kitten milk replacer is formulated for a carnivorous animal. Mice aren't carnivores.  Also the "every species" formulas you'd buy at places like Rural King or feed stores  isn't necessarily a better option. What's good for a foal isn't going to have what a puppy would need. Milk isn't generic and it isn't "all just milk" if that makes any sense. ^^; Definitely try to find a more appropriate milk somewhere like Petco.

Also, I'd be careful with wild mice. If you intend to keep them once they are grown keep in mind that they probably won't have the same temperament as domestic mice. Even if you did hand-raise them, don't expect that to be enough to override their wild instincts, especially once they mature. Tame is not the same thing as domesticated. They could be a lot more skittish and maybe even more prone to biting.

I know my post sounds all negative and nagging and I apologize! ^^; I just really want those adorable little mice to grow up all big and healthy!

That site is Transformer-themed, but, it'll give you a good idea just how many characters/figures from other Hasbro lines Share names with Transformers. Believe it or not, quite a few ponies.

Echoing pretty much what everyone else has said... Probably not. Unless you've got some of the comic-con exclusives or something that's already fairly pricy or harder to find I doubt most pony merch will be worth all that much. Especially when G4's popularity wears off. FIM isn't just popular with older fans, plenty of little girls love the cartoon, too. Guess what's gonna happen when they "outgrow" their old pony toys in the next few years? They're probably going to flood the secondary market. Not all girls are packrats like I am and kept most of their favorite toy collections they had as a kid. >_>;

Best of luck with that. ._. Ebay is probably your only bet unless you can find some sort of local store that specializes in vintage collectibles and the like. The problem with Ebay is that not only are knock-off transformers common, but, legit figures are probably going to cost you an arm and a leg. Doubly so during the holiday season and probably for such a notable character like Starscream.

Edit: the good news is that there are quite a few active websites dedicated to Transformers, most with image galleries and such. I know TFW2005 also has a thread dedicated to identifying KO Transformers, the thread also has links to a few websites that are also good resources. Also, a few video reviews might also be helpful, too, so you can really get a feel of the figure and what it's supposed to look like, accessories, ect. I've not seen any personally but there may even be some legit VS KO videos out there, too.

I voted for G1 but I'd say all of 'em. G2 could use a little love, too.

Not sure Thrift Store finds count. ^^; There are older gen ponies I want but I doubt I'll be buyign 'em.I'll stick to G4 for the moment. >>;

I do want to catch up on the Funko figures. I'm missing quite a few of them. I also need to catch up on the unique brushables that are floating around in stores. Dazzle Cake and that filly set for sure if they still exist in my area. >>; I've also taken a liking to the Through the Mirror Sunset Shimmer with her Hotrod flames. I also think that one might be lingering around at a Walmart in the area. I also need that TTM Fashion Style Celestia, too. The two new Celestia-mold princesses are also on my want list as well.

I definitely have to agree with more male ponies. Shining Armor mold... just do the same with the standard pony mold and just add/remove the wings or horn.... I'm shocked they haven't made more use of the single stallion mold they've got. Even if his body type doesn't quite mach that of ponies like Cheese Sandwich or Flim and Flam I'd still be nice to see 'em anyway. Mrs. Cake's doll doesn't match her body style eitehr. >>; The least they could do is give her  the rest of of her family. They could even make a set out of it, too.

Pony Corral / Re: Hasbro + Dreamworks - What could it mean for MLP?

So apparently Hasbro Said "No!" to Dreamworks. As a few already mentioned, it's not surprising given how they're already licensed to produce a lot of toys for Disney's properties.

Honestly my immediate thought is Transformers. As much as we all love MLP, Transformers is still a massive cash cow for Hasbro. MLP certainly has a loyal fanbase, but I'm not sure we're as large as we think. Look at all the goodies Transformers gets at cons versus MLP, for instance. They also seem far more loyal to adult Transformers collectors than to adult MLP collectors.

You are absolutely right about that! As a Transformers junkie myself, I won't deny that Transformers gets a LOT more than MLP. G1 Encore figures, Generations, Masterpiece, video games, comics... It's a little disappointing as I'm also a Pony fan but it's kind of obvious why. The following for Transformers is still a LOT bigger than MLP and has been for many, many years. It's not just the North American fanbase, either. There's also Japan and Takara (who sold their Diaclone robots to Hasbro in the first place). TF has also had like 4 huge movies as well. G4 has made Ponies relevant again but I still think it has a long way to go. x-x In the FIM fandom most folks sort of look upon the older generations with a bit of disdain or even disgust. It's actually quite the opposite for The Transformers following. You get people complaining that newer incarnations aren't G1 enough.  Pony-wise it feels to me that the market for anything pre-G4 is really small. There are plenty of adult fans that would love for more nostalgic merchandise but I don't think our voice is loud enough just yet for Hasbro to listen, especially over the cries of the FIM-only fans.

If they're going into business with Dremworks Animation then what's up with Hasbro and their "Allspark Studios" they recently announced? I'm hoping this will mean more animated features or even some decent straight-to-dvd stuff, especially for Hasbro's other properties. I just hope it's not all in CG. Dreamworks Animation used to have some 2D stuff back in the day. >>; I don't see why they still couldn't manage it. Most 2D animation is all done with computers nowadays, anyway.

  they always respond with "We're not buying toys, trinkets or electronics."

That's about the same response I get. I'm always grateful for everything I get and I do get some pretty awesome presents, but, most of the stuff on the top of my wishlist is overlooked. It's usually along the lines of Transformers/Other toys, DVD Box sets, video games. My parents aren't exactly fond of the fact that I like to collect toys or that I still waste my time watching cartoons so I suppose they don't want to "feed my addiction" or something. My mom usually asks me to write down everything I want so that's exactly what I do.  However, I never expect to get any figures I put on there. ^^; Also, it's not as if my wishlists are completely comprised of toys, either.

I saw the two new princesses in stores earlier today; U.S... >>

As a kid I was definitely one of those "horsey!" types. Anything and everything horse was good enough for me be it natural or sparkle-horse colors. I stuck with MLP because I mostly liked the style of the dolls to be quite honest. I love the wide variety of bright colors but I'd also love to see natural colors on some ponies (as if my avatar wasn't a dead give-away). Real horses come in so many beautiful colors and patterns! It's a shame we don't have many official MLP dolls to really show that off. Those prototypes in that video were ADORABLE.

Pony Corral / Re: Has anyone seen FS Daisy Dreams in the wild yet?

tbf that's the same art Daisy Dreams has always had, just with a little bit of added yellow.

I've never seen Daisy Dream's artwork before this, then.
