I always wanted one of the NBBE versions of her as a kid. Her role in the movie was a big factor, of course, but the pink on pink design was also very cute. I recently used a BBE Baby Lickety-Split as the base for a custom commission, which was pretty nice.

She’s faded a a beautiful shade. She’s really giving off those classic unicorn vibes, like The Last Unicorn.

Customs / Radiogram and Up In Stitches: Pony Anatomy Studies?

With the extra time that sheltering in place and finishing college have afforded me, I let some of my friends know that I was testing the waters for art commissions. My friend Adrian, who works in Forensics, was thrilled. She'd fallen in love with the unusual appearance of Beddy Bye Eye ponies ever since I'd brought them up in conversation while I was working on my Ponyta customs, so she commissioned a pair of BBE ponies with a distinct anatomical flair.

"I like the idea of one with a visible muscle layer, and one with bones."

Ask and ye shall receive! Images not recommended for children, as the muscle pony is especially unsettling for sensitive viewers. Nothing more graphic than a basic anatomy textbook, but I figure if you're going to view a photo of a child's toy that looks like a raw steak, it should be a choice on your part.
This is Radiogram-

At the same time, however, I felt that it would give them a little more charm to be a bisected model, like those Transparent Man puzzles. As such, I kept one side free and painted on different colored "eyeshadow" and cutie marks to suit their new personalities.

Notice the band-aids on Up In Stitches? Her base pony had some of that classic pink "highlighter" staining we all know and love, so after sanitizing, I decided to make the cover-up a part of her design.

The two that come to mind immediately are the G1 Newborns and the G3 babies, and weirdly, both come down to promportions. The Newborns, to me, are the peak of tiny and cute for G1 babies before they start looking more like an exaggerated chibi (which does work well for Teeny Tinies, but you get me). They look just right compared to their G1 family.
In the other direction, I love the G3 babies for taking more traits of a baby horse as opposed to just the offspring of the toyline, if that makes sense. G1 babies look like the children of a MLP, but G3 looks like an MLP based on a foal. It’s all in those long legs. Real newborn horses are lanky!

During quarantine, I’ve been able to explore the world of customs further and bought a small lot of BBEs to experiment with. Shortly after buying the lot, I actually got my first ever commission from a friend who is all about the line’s spooky little eyes, and wants to play up the macabre factor while also playing into her field of study, anatomy.

So in addition to my own funky and colorful custom ponies, I’ve been working on turning Baby Half Note into a half pony/half skeleton model, and Baby Lickety-Split into a half and half model of a horse’s muscular system.

I’m just now realizing how extra morbid it is that I’m doing them as split down the middle, normal on one side and freaky on the other models while they have names like Half Note and Lickety-Split. I promise it wasn’t on purpose! I hope this isn’t too grim to be forum appropriate!

Back when Happy Home Designer came out, I snatched up as many packs of cards as I could get my paws on, so I'm slowly listing all but my favorite cards on eBay. Keep checking back, listings to be updated!

Pony Corral / Re: Pony Mistakes
« on: April 02, 2020, 10:54:17 AM »
I was nine years old in 2006, and getting into G1 ponies in addition to G3. I was visiting a friend and was amazed to see she had Mommy Sweet Celebrations, and since she didn't get played with, she was given to me. It was my first G1 pony, so once I finished cleaning it up and restoring it... I wrote "PROPERTY OF [FULL NAME]" aaaaallll across her left side under her symbol in sharpie. I was just so happy that I had a pony in my possession, even though I read all the collector websites about preservation I just wasn't thinking.

Ah well. Kids will be kids.

I'm a customizer more than a collector, so I feel like my vote would be biased. It's always taking apart for me!

I'm a novice too, but I've used TheDollPlanet on Etsy. I didn't do it perfectly-- my custom (on right) had a lot more hair than a standard pony and it was a lot longer, so there was more room for error. Her hair came out quite handsome, but there are a number of stray hairs from my reckless rooting.
