Pony Corral / Re: Back to the "Hasbro lost the rights" topic on G1
« on: July 26, 2012, 05:46:41 PM »
I got linked to a list of Hasbro's MLP copyrights a few days ago and Firefly (plus a bunch of other G1 ponies) were definitely on there. Also, I mean, would they really have only lost them in the last two years, since the Dolly Mix ponies were from 2010?

I've known them as alicorns for well over a decade, so, no, the definition has nothing to do with the g4 line of MLP. They've been called alicorns outside of MLP for quite awhile.

In fact, until just a couple years ago, I'd never heard the term alicorn to specifically refer to the material of a unicorn's horn and was very confused before I realized what they were getting at. I think it was in an old '80s movie that was on tv.
Yeah, this! There was a book about unicorns that I read as a kid that specifically mentioned alicorns as winged unicorns. I hadn't heard the term as meaning what a unicorn's horn is made of until the arena, actually.

My G1 collection's pretty small, but it's getting there :lovey:

(I didn't notice that, uh, part of a G4 snuck into the photo :yikes: )

I hope your luck turns around soon! :(

My G1 collection is still really small, and I think Baby Moondancer would like to have another baby around to keep her company. (Especially one in one of my favorite poses with such a gorgeous hair color...)

Congratulations on that many posts! I don't think I'll ever get that far. :yikes:

There are probably also some people who would be willing to pay a little more for a pony who's had the deflocking done already than buy one with manky flocking and do it themselves, I'd think. It would definitely depend on the condition, though!

Some ponies I've finished lately. Both had absolutely rancid hair. Had to do something about that. And took me forever to get good pics of these girls. My camera is just getting worse and worst. Stupid thing.

Rainbow Sundance has 15 different colors in her hair.

...Well, I think I know what I'll be doing if I ever get my hands on a baity Sundance. She's so lovely! :lovey:

For Sugar Apple, I'd say give her another rinse and leave the conditioner in for quite a long time.  Maybe a week or more.  It will get crunchy, but it might help.  Give it a gentle comb afterward and rinse.  I've done the same with a Caramel Crunch who looked like she had an afro when I got her, but after a week of conditioning I was able to get her hair looking quite good again.

Elf

Like Elf says I would persevere with the hair for a few more conditioner and ultimately flat iron rounds - she sounds as though she may have had some kind of chemical [perhaps even a shampoo] left through her hair for years so it may have damaged the nylon or it may just be something coating the hair. Its worth a fight before you give in in my opinion :) Yes, I believe she does have a shorter pink hair section in a forelock.

The yellowing on Best Wishes does indeed look like glue - unfortunately you probably will not manage to remove or soften that to any extent without removing the flocking. You usually see tough little yellowed patches of glue like that where the flocking is already particularly thin. Unfortunately even a scrub and boiling water can remove flocking so whole you could try a delicate scrub, comb and warmish water you will probably just result in removing the flocking that is there :(

Thank you! I just reconditioned it - as soon as I noticed it was hard, I washed it out (and shampooed her a little bit) because I was afraid I'd damaged her  :yikes: She came to me with her hair in a big knot, though, so at least she's in better shape than when I started.

Ah well :( I'll definitely try a gentle scrub, she's got some surface dirt elsewhere, but even if I can't get it she's lovely otherwise.

I just got the talking Cadance, Royal Castle Friends set, and Bow Tie, Firefly, Best Wishes, and Sugar Apple as birthday presents. :lovey:

They're glued in, but there's also a plug (similar to the one holding the FS's heads on) inside. I boiled one a while ago to get the tail out and the wings didn't want to budge at all.

I recently got a lot of ponies for my birthday. They're in pretty good condition (and I got an excellent price!) but the problems two of them do have are... pretty bad.

First is Sugar Apple. Her hair's uncut (I think - should she have a forelock?), but it's the roughest I've ever felt, even after three conditionings. I left one in overnight (have done previously for problem ponies with no real problem), and it turned it hard!

Our flat iron's pretty old and doesn't get very hot, so it probably won't be able to totally fix her frizz. She's also got a bit of tail rust. Her hair just feels so awful to touch! Is there anything else in addition that I can do? (I'll still be flat ironing it no matter what, I just don't know what it'll do when all of the hair is a frizzy mess.)

Second is Best Wishes. Her flocking is really soft and nice, except for one thing: a rough, yellowed patch on her backside. Is this glue? It feels similar around her neck.

I'm not sure how at all to deal with this - I know you can't restore yellowed glue's color, but can I at least soften it a little?

Wave 3 (Blossomforth, Dewdrop Dazzle, Cupcake) are the ones that have been out the longest, and are sold out in most places - so if you like their designs I'd get one of them. (DD has really weird, hard to style hair, though.)

Plumsweet, Diamond Rose, and Flitterheart are my favorites out of those, though.

Every single G4 has head/body mismatch, and everything else is pretty common. I actually sold/traded almost all of my G4s and stopped collecting them because I couldn't stand buying "brand new" broken/dirty toys.
I thought it was most common in pink/purple ones? I can't see any differences in my white/blue/orange ponies. It is pretty ridiculous, though. When I bought my FS RD, every one in the store had dirt on it.

Yeah, a big chunk of LJRP moved to Dreamwidth after release 88 (a really ugly comment style, no subject lines, some other bad choices? and a lot of really rude responses from LJ's staff) last year - I'm not really sure about what places are around. (DW's a really nice place - the staff are super happy about the influx of RPers.) Some didn't survive the move, and a lot of new games have sprung up, and I haven't really been keeping up outside of the games my friends are in. Dear_mun's still a good place to start, though!

Those poor ponies, oh wow. I hope you can get them back to their former glory!

It's probably just the fact that she's painted, but for a second Moondancer reminded me of the painted prototypes I've seen.
