Pony Corral / Re: G1 Goodwill Finds
« on: January 30, 2015, 06:32:35 PM »
Cuddles' cutie mark on one side looks pretty good, but the other side is pretty scuffed. What's the deal with these Magid Message ponies? How do they work?

I also saw Brilliant Bloom is a Brush and Grow. Her tail was really short and I thought "Gosh, I hope no one cut it" so I pulled on it and - woop! Can I get it to go back in?

The Magic Message pony cutie marks are heat sensitive.  If you put your fingers over it for a few seconds, the "mystery" symbol should appear.  I think originally you were supposed to rub them, but I found with mine that you didn't really have to rub to get them to change, just make them warm.

The Brush and Grow's hair should go in when you twist her head back and forth.  Though, it might not be a bad idea to comb it first because it will keep that super long hair from being all ratted up inside of her.

Okay so if I'm not deflocking the So Softs... tips on washing their hair without messing up the flock? Also a couple of the flocked ponies look like they were given... lipstick makeovers. Any way to clean that off without messing them up?

You can wash the hair normally.  For washing the body, I recommend using a baby toothbrush.  The bristles are soft and if you're gentle, you won't remove the flocking.  I had a Bouncy with a big black mark on its chest and the toothbrush got it out.  I used shampoo and water on it as well to help get the black mark out.  As long as you're careful and don't let it soak in the water, the flocking should be okay.  If you're not sure, you can try  it on a small spot before going over the rest of the body.  I wouldn't rub the flocking dry, though.  You can carefully blot out excess water, but I would leave the pony out to air dry for a few days.

Pony Corral / Re: Any cure for plasticsizer problem/sticky pony?
« on: January 27, 2015, 08:02:59 PM »
I've never run into this problem, but it has been my experience that a clean WHITE eraser can usually remove sticky stuff on plastic.  You don't want to use a pink eraser because it will leave a pink residue.  White erasers are soft and will "stick" to whatever is sticky.  You keep erasing it until it no longer sticks.  (Sorry, that's not a very good description but I can't think of any other way to describe it.)  You can always try this on a small spot to make sure it won't do any damage to the pony, but, as I said, I haven't tried it on a pony before.  Good luck!

Holy cow that's a ton of hair for a baby pony.
I like her.  Her wings are pretty.  It makes me want to try sculpting.

If I could get fakie Big Brothers I'd definitely do more male customs!  I think we all have a hard time baiting those boys!  I have a 4-Speed that's had his hair buzzed off, but I'm not sure if I just want to restore him or create a custom.  I have an idea that I've been putting off because I just don't know if he's baity enough for me to not feel bad about it.

Off Topic / Re: Unicorn themed wedding! Ideas?
« on: January 19, 2015, 04:34:15 PM »
It's a Disney wedding, right?  So incorporate the unicorns from Fantasia.  They're pastel and in a classic style which will make them seem a bit more refined, especially if the rest of your decor includes Disney characters.

Perhaps you could use them as details in centerpieces.  If the colors don't match up you could always use silhouettes in whatever colors fit your scheme.

Thanks!  I love flocking because it's soft and pretty but I also love that it keeps the ponies protected.  When you remove the fuzz the colors are AMAZING because they had to be brilliant to be seen through the flocking.

Pretty!  Patchy So Softs look so much better when they're deflocked.  I had a Posey with the same problem.  I kind of wish I'd taken a before picture.  Her flocking was so bad it came off in big patches every time you touched her.  I think she looks happier now that she doesn't have mange anymore.

I have a couple other so softs that might end up deflocked because they're running a bit patchy.

Customs / Re: Questions about recycling pony hair and mohawks.
« on: January 09, 2015, 03:18:31 PM »
I reuse hair all the time.  When I remove it, I take each plug, tie a knot in it and then snip it off the pony.  I dip the knot in glue and let it dry.  Then when I rehair, I use a pushpin to widen the hole and then string a bit of fishing line through to pull the plug through the hair hole, leaving the knot inside.  Once the pony is completely rehaired, I use a paint brush and put glue along the hair inside to help hold it in place.    Whenever I bait out a pony, if I'm keeping the hair, I automatically create the hair plugs.  That way, when I decide I need that color, it's ready to go and doesn't take as long to finish up a custom.  Though, keep in mind that doing this makes the hair a little bit shorter than it would normally be so a lot of times I'll reuse adult hair on a baby custom.

I have also been known to steal hair from Bratz/Disney/Barbie styling heads and other larger dolls, such as the 16 inch Strawberry Shortcake line.  I've found that using regular size Barbie hair doesn't work as well.  It's super fine and tends to shred when you pull it through the holes.  Bratz styling heads have a pretty nice array of colors that the ponies themselves don't usually have, like shades browns, blondes and auburn.  Styling heads are usually designed to take a lot of wear and tear from little girls so the quality is generally really good.  I find mine at local thrift stores for a dollar, so the price is right, too.  I recommend a thorough cleaning before use, though, because I've found that little girls like to use makeup and chalk to try and "color" the hair.

As for the mohawk hair style, I think if you use thick plugs it will help the hair to stand up better in the holes.  Then just trim down to the desired length, I guess.  I haven't actually tried to give a pony a mohawk so I don't know how well that will actually work.  Maybe someone else has better tips.  Good luck!

We should come up with a name for her, unless everyone likes Lady Arena, that is.

Wanted! / Re: Looking for G1 Posey and Rosedust!
« on: January 07, 2015, 11:13:09 PM »
I have

Posey--was originally so-soft, I had to deflock her because it was coming off in clumps-now she doesn't look like she has mange.

Desert Rose
Lulabelle (2)
Autumn Skye
Moondancer
Starbeam (1)
Wing Song

I might have a Yesterdaisy, but I think she's in bait condition (if I remember right she has a hole bit out her hoof so I don't know that you want that one--I found her that way, I have no idea who tried to eat her or why).

I don't know if you want any of those right now or what you were thinking of paying but if you want to make an offer on any, let me know.

This is true.  But the more I customize the rarer they will be in the future... :sly: :devious:

On that list I have Twinkle Hope, Anchors Away, several Darling Dahlia, several Goodie Goodie, Silver Rain and 2 Thistle Whistle.  Interesting.  I didn't think I'd have so many on the list.  I figured mine were all fairly common.  Thanks for the info!

Pony Corral / G3 question
« on: January 06, 2015, 08:05:45 PM »
I'm curious as to which G3s are considered hard to find or most sought after.  I have a bunch that I'm planning to sell and I'm just wondering if there are any I should pay particular attention to.

In addition, are they any I should avoid customizing?

Pony Corral / Re: Have a problem with this one - who is she?
« on: January 06, 2015, 08:01:44 PM »
I have one like that as well (but pink).  If you look closely, it's actually a bit smaller than a real G3.  My guess is that someone used a G3 to make the mold, which would account for the Hasbro mark still being there and it being smaller in size.

Customs / Re: Question about the "paint your own" ponies
« on: December 28, 2014, 10:02:59 PM »
You can sand them down (I just tried on mine) but the cutie marks on mine are deep enough that it might be easier to fill them with air dry clay instead as sanding them that much might disfigure their rumps.  But I've seen some that people have painted with different cutie marks and you couldn't tell it wasn't supposed to be there.
